Barzites are not shit, they just know that the Shapers can't put the cat back in the bag. Shapers can either adopt and regulate the new technology, or they can get overthrown by the takers or sholai.

Takers are retarded and violent animals, so I never side with them. Sholai... I don't think they were a genuine option prior to the remake, and they're foreigners anyway. Barzites do some stupid stuff and become unhinged, but it's because they're competing against the takers and they know the shapers will also attack. If they felt safer I imagine they'd take their time and be more careful about who uses the forge and how often they do so.

In the end they become based god-like beings who take shaper civilization to the next level. Bretty gud. Also felt a bit like that AoD ending where the wards do indeed hold.
"Shit" as in they're on the deeper end of the asshole pool. Not "shit" as in they're a terrible faction.

Wait a second, the Sholai are an option in the Geneforge 2 remake? I know you could help Trajkov in the OG, and the Renegade Sholai helping the Awakened were a thing.

Not....exactly. They're a side faction. You can do some side quests for them, and they have their own ending. It doesn't affect your faction ending as far as I'm aware however.

THAT BEING SAID
you really shouldn't be helping them if you're loyal to the shapers or even if you're a barzite since it's obvious they're after shaping secrets
if you care about roleplaying.

Oh, I thought that Vogel had perhaps added more to the sholai faction in the remake. I haven't done all their missions for the reason you stated, but I saw they had a couple of bases and some quite involved missions, so I thought they had become their own established faction.

Hahahahahah I remember how much Ellrah shits himself after you use the Geneforge. Bro wanted to be free of the Shapers, but unleashed something WORSE than them upon the world.
Congratulations to the envolved, retard. You just unleashed a Mad God into the Shapers. But hey, at least the Servants can carve their freedom while the Shapers are distracted... for how long?

Reminds me of the Minimum Canister Taker ending in GF2

The Drakons take over the Valley and lead the Takers to war against the Shapers. You end up sidelined and doing studies and shit in the cuckshed while you hear news of the Takers and their Drakon masters exploding the Shapers' shit and generally ravaging the world.

Yeah, it's hilarious. He literally can't talk to you because he's absolutely terrified of you. Talk about a case of be careful what you wish for.

I also find the contrast between Ellrah and Rydell to also be hilarious. Like I said, whatever faults Rydell has, being a coward is NOT one of them.

edit - just had a thought about your comment on the low canister taker ending. I wonder what the low canister ending for the barzites would be like. Talk about a contradiction.

almost done with my playthrough as a guardian on veteran difficulty. spent most of my skill points on melee weapons, essence mastery and fire shaping and relied mostly on fyoras/drayks with 1 searing artila to melt bosses with acid. killed trajkov pretty easily but kinda struggled against goettsch. started the fight (after buffing the party with essence shields and mass energize ofc) by dazing everything and focusing on killing his drayk first then spent the rest of the fight just healing/curing. in hindsight i probably should've switched to armor with better magic resistance and trained missile weapons to use spray batons for aoe physical damage.

i liked the first 2/3 of the game but find the last 1/3 to be such a slog that im just forcing myself to finish it. there are barely any new quests especially for the factions (i chose the awakened) and you've already learned everything there is to know about the setting/factions/story so all that's left is clearing maps full of trash mobs. i wouldn't have minded this too much if they actually gave exp so there's still some character progression but the late game enemies seemed to have been purposely designed to be underleveled with beefed up stats and sometimes even a special ability so they can still pose a threat and kill some of your creations which forces you to retreat back to town to resummon them making it even more of a slog. the most annoying areas are also crammed in the last 1/3 of the game such as areas where you take constant dot, minefields (go back to town to take out the appropriate spore baton from the junk bag) and shaper's crypt with its constant respawns and half of it being filled with pylons. does the sequel have more meaningful content towards the end like more quests, bosses, etc?

Congrats on making it so far in GF1. I recommend just making a break for the boat when you're ready to leave the island. No need to hang around if the fun is gone. I agree that the first 2/3s are the best part, with a steep decline after that.

I think GF2 is different. The pacing is better and there's always something going on. At the end you of course start running out of quests and new discoveries, but it's nowhere near as bad. GF2 substantially expands the lore and makes the factions more numerous and detailed. There are also a lot of boss fights and optional challenging areas at the end. I'm not sure how it is for every faction, but for the factions I've played the game culminates in a big boss fight.

i already finished it. i roleplayed my character as neutral good on the island, helping the awakened fight for their independence. then he used the geneforge (as per ellrah's advice) and destroyed it which corrupted him and he turned evil at the ending slides, starting a war with the shaper council. i'm confused about the takers' ending which says they joined the war but not which side, mine or the shapers? i guess they just fought both, suffered heavy casualties then retreated and mellowed out? also fully cleared all the areas except the hills of jars (i had no points in mechanics) after using the geneforge which made it much easier due to the much larger essence pool for healing/resummoning.

actually feel like starting another playthrough, this time as a solo agent focusing on magic and leadership/mechanics for the skill checks. roleplaying her as chaotic neutral at the start then gradually becoming evil and joining trajkov at the end. other characters in mind include a guardian focusing on battle creations and stacking strength with the fully charged feisty slap glove or a shaper focusing on magic shaping to try the cockatrices and ur-glaahks. probably gonna take a short break and play something else for a bit since im kinda burnt out. at least i know which areas to skip for my next playthrough.

nice to know that the sequel has more factions and boss fights. idk how far it's set in the future but i think that the 3 factions are still there so i'm interested in what happens to them after the war (beyond the 1-2 sentences in the ending ofc). i also like the changes and new additions to the mechanics from what i've read.
