An interesting experiment, from someone who never had access to a PC until 2004 or so and, as such, has had his concept of a good game thoroughly redefined in the recent past, and sees most of his gaming consist of playing catch-up on recommended classics.

As for this guy's next game, can't go wrong with Torment.

He will expect TB game so give him Gothic now.

Oh that's an excellent idea, maybe Gothic 2 gold. I think I recall that being one of the hardest ones in the series. I'd love to see him one shotted by a young wolf just outside Xardas tower.

I was gonna suggest Gothic as well: the first one, as it is shorter, smaller and easier than the 2nd. And personally I think he should at least go through Ultima VII or Ultima VIII, before the end of his days. :)

It looks like Bruticus has narrowed down the next "assignment" to either Ultima 7, Gothic 2, or Planescape: Torment based on everyone's feedback in this thread. I'm ready for anything, honestly, overly text-based or not. I don't mind a lot of reading, provided it's good writing.

I thought both were JRPGs? Does this mean FF13 is the movie adaptation of PST the book?

Humina say-wha?

Ultima VIII was an okay game, but a terrible Ultima, and I don't really think there's any need but the most curious and iron-gutted to give it a go these days. >= VII were awesome though.

How unoriginal.

If you really want to keep this "Guinea-pig" thing interesting, you should play Fallout 3 next.

So I’ll be honest with you, readers. I won’t be able to honor my original promises. I will not be able to defeat this game without a little help every now and then.
Sweet Jesus, I think I was 12 when I finished Fallout 2 for the first time.

Me too, now I'm playing it for eleventh time, this time with RP 2.0... and I can tell you: THIS GAME IS SO FUCKIN SWEET!

Also: let him play SS2.

I'm weird, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere in Ultima VIII. The plot was vague at best, and Ultima VI or VII were surely superior, but still I think it is a good game to approach the franchise from. Altho, you're prolly right in the end, make it Ultima VII. :)

Didn't bother to read the rest of this thread but I'll echo what has surely been said already: very enjoyable reading the blog. The resulting Let's Play is as good as many seen here, and it's especially satisfying and even a little pride-inducing knowing that the guy is experiencing some of the amazing feelings we've all known about RPG's for the first time.

That's it, isn't it? There's nothing quite like the first time.

Agreed. The atmosphere was great in U8, it is one of my fav games. But yeah, go for U7 for that ultima experience.

It'll be underwhelming somewhat, should have started on it.

I'll replay FO1 any day over FO2.
