Update: Aside from Godrays (seriously, set that to low now), turns out Shadow Distance is the other thing murdering your frame rates. There's also the obscene amount of Tesselation used, which many AMD fans are crying sabotage about.

And, well, the engine in general. But we knew that one coming in.

The asset streaming is still the worst part for me, even with every ini edit imaginable. Framerate is high and solid until it starts streaming assets around you (which for some reason only happens in the cities).

Not owning the game I obviously can't check, but from some things I've read, it reminds me a little bit of Skyrim's shadow system (which probably makes sense, assuming they have just continued to update their engine).
In Skyrim's case, the best approach to tweaking the shadows was to set a medium shadow resolution, reduce the distance (which would interestingly increase the resolution of the remaining shadows again) and then tune the setting responsible for bluring the shadows until you got something that looked good without causing too much flicker.
The result looked much better than Bethesdas default settings while using less resources.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if that can be done for FO4, as well.

Oh god I've played it and it somehow has managed to be even worse than Fallout 3. I honestly didn't think they could make a worse UI than the one in Skyrim, but they've really outdone themselves with this. Simple shit like navigating your fucking pip-boy is now an unnecessarily fidgety and time-consuming process, but hey, at least now you can use the RMB to to flail your fucking arm around like an autist.

Jesus fucking Christ, it's somehow even worse than I thought it would be, and my expectations where below the bottom of the fucking barrel.

Especially if they got Tim Cain involved (he wasn't there when they made New Vegas).

But he wasn't. But he surely was at that Fallout 4 launch party and having a blast by the looks of it.
I just hope Feargus sent him as a peace emissary to haggle/contest a New Vegas 2 development rights.

Where is Tim Cain's Fallout 4 gameplay twitch livestream like he did for Bedlam?
It would be glorious to also have Boyarsky at his side like he had for Bedlam and be able to voice their true feelings while playing Fallout 4.

The other very much likely possibility is that Cain and Boyarsky really like Fallout 4 and what has become.

Every time he has talked about the new Fallouts, it has basically been backhanded compliments. "I wouldn't have done that, but it's very well done." In industry speak, that's basically, "It's trash."

In the past he's basically said that he's frustrated with people who keep expecting him to hate Fallout 3. Don't understand why this Codex myth keeps circulating.

as much as i like riding my powah armoa shooting the minigun, i fucking hate the fugly nerfgun toy looking weapons, especially the retarded pipeguns that make no sense. the worst thing about this is that mods might not be able to fix that, considering how retarded bethesda is about letting you add animations without jumping through a million fiery hoops.

"Fallout 3 fits with Oblivion in their line of products."

As damning a quote as any, really.

Why exactly is every single quest either a fetch quest or a go-there-kill-people-come-back quest? Does anybody enjoy quests like this? Nobody on the planet has ever enjoyed a fetch quest, Bethesda must know that.
