Someone should photoshop all those WOW ACTION icons over a pic of Ultima 4.

It's weird, because without the UI I would have actually had a positive reaction. I know not everyone would like that artstyle but it's pretty unique. And it's top down. I want to actually play this game, even though it will suck. I like that art direction more than most recent games. I'm a sucker for 2D-ish stuff.

Can anyone confirm/deny that it plays at a fixed camera angle or does it rotate and shit? It's kind of hard to tell from those shots.

It's a 2d game.

They will change the storyline based on alpha tester feedback.

Hey, taxalot, check out the comments here. Your testimonial has gone viral. You're a goddamn legend. :smug:

What I don't get is how these supposedly hardcore "Ultima Dragons" are falling all over themselves to praise or defend this thing?! Everything I've seen/ heard about this game makes me cringe as a Ultima fan. Am I missing something?
Saw the same thing with people defending Hitman: Absolution when the 'Latex battle nuns' trailer came up: it's been years since the last game in the series came out and they're so desperate for anything they'll accept it even when it's obviously a steaming pile.

FYI, taxalot and myself are also long-time Ultima Dragons (since the mid-90's)

Anyway, it's selection bias. Kenneth is an EA apologist and he runs an EA apologist blog. There's not much point in going on there and arguing with him. Trust me, he's very much set in his ways. So the people commenting are either those who agree with him, or noobs.

Prediction: You make progress in the game by gaining Virtue. The only way to gain Virtue is to beat quests (grindy filler shit with daily time limits), play gambling-esque mini-games (with a daily limit), or spend real money to buy it.

Conclusion: Wasting money is virtuous.

The goal is no longer to be The Avatar, but The Consumer.

This is getting more and more retarded.

EA, please sell the Ultima rights to Obsidian, and then fucking die.

Unfortunately, Obsidian can't afford it. But you know whose favorite game is Ultima VII? :hearnoevil:

I bet he never played it and just watched a few minutes of a Youtube LP video. And then just mentions U VII just for cred.

No suprise there. If I remember correctly he said in an interview at E3 that his biggest inspiration is Ultima. You can clearly see TES going from dungeon-crawling to a open-world adventure game like Ultima VII.

Is there actually any chance they're going to release Ultima IX at some point, maybe via GoG? I know it's a bitch on Win 7, but it's too long since I played it...and never finished it due to some fucking bug were I always got stuck on the ground. Thanks EA for rushing the game out the doors.

I am actually playing it right now, as group of modders wanted to test a few things out with a BETA patch for U IX. The game still crashes and has a few other problems, they would be stupid to put that up on GOG due to the sheer amount of technical problems people would report. It would literally crash GOG technical support website. EA should just release the source code to it and just put it up the game for FREE with a gigantic disclaimer, play at your own risk. Don'y contact technical support etc..

And it runs perfectly fine in win 7. No need for compatibility mode.

GOG has Troika games for sale, doesn't it? :troll:

I've asked Kenneth about this and I don't believe he's heard of U9 being withheld by EA on purpose, but that is probably something that they would do without admitting it.
