- Third disappoint is about the whole game design. The game is basically an interactive cutscene simulator with an occasional puzzle and the even more occasional running around. Every dialogue, fully voiced, is essentially a cutscene per se

Are you seriously surprised by this?

No, not really. :negative:

TLJ has two lesbian characters whose relationship is presented as "healthy", as well as a "very talented" cop who is explicitly revealed to be gay. Dreamfall retcons Zoe into a mixed-race relationship and implies that she has premarital sex. Many of Zoe's and most of April's friends are non-white or of mixed blood. You're also forced to play as Kian, a dark black guy who is shown to be loyal, intelligent and skillful.

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
That is not in and of itself SJWhoring. It just avoids certain types of stereotypes in favor of other ones. SJWhoring would be the stories bashing in your head about how women are equal to men with constant comparisons to prove the point. I don't much like this series post the first entry but it's not a bad series because it has lesbian women in it.

Pretty much this.

One of the main puzzles in the whole game is convincing a ship captain that a woman can be a worthwhile navigator and should be used on his ship.

I hated the first 20 minutes and couldn't get past Kian. Does the game get any better or should I abandon it altogether? Until this point it seemed painfully cliched and predictable.

Pretty much this.

I would agree with any and all of that. That isn't SJWing, it is normal.

SJWing would be portraying all men as rapists, or that women are constantly being discriminated against and downtrodden, or that there is some kind of patriarchy/rape culture which we all buy into.

It picks up a little, but not much. Pretty environments though, worth a look. And there's always the outside chance that the season won't be utterly bad, taken as a whole. First episode definitely is.

You got me confused. 1st ep. IS utterly bad or IS NOT utterly bad? (I'm a couple of hours in and lost "inspiration" to play the game, btw. Not sure it'll ever come back...)

Regarding gameplay, it is Dreamfall all over again, minus the terrible action and stealth. But it is light on puzzles. Ep 1 is NOT utterly bad, it is just boring. But the main reason of the boredom is that it is only the first episode, but the whole season can be a fantastic story overall. We will see.

So I assume the first 10 minutes don't involve talking to a tree, then to a shiny dragon and then waking up and exploring a cyberpunk version of Amsterdam/Venice, right?

:negative: muh memories.

Dreamfall had its flaws, but it was a much tighter experience than Chapters so far. The plot was always moving forward, the (overly easy) puzzles made sense, and the NPCs had personality. The environments were heavy on the atmosphere. Little of what you did would be unrelated to everything else. Contrast that with Chapters, where you've mostly got an empty city, pointless interactions with dull characters, go-get-me-a-can-of-soda-from-the-machine type quests. There's no spark. There's no soul. You're just running from A to B to C to D.

And don't get me started on the baby section.

so you're telling me that Chapters are even worse than Dreamfall? How is that even possible? :negative:

I don't think the first hour of Dreamfall were that much better, if we just look at it seperately.

I'm under the impression that people overate TLJ because there is a bizarre lack of critical sense among PCist when it come to classic adventure games (especially if they aren't too hard) and underestimate Dreamfall because it was unplayable without a pad (which is a legit complain, thought).

Indeed. Pretty adventure games were the PC popamole of the 90's.

I see the game is on a 40% discount on Steam. I guess the Book 1 sales didn't go that well.
Dead State was in the top 10 a few weeks ago, now it's 33% off. Devs are getting wise to the ways of bargain marketing. +M
