I wonder if the Paypal contributions will manage to push them over 1,500,000.

I'm honestly surprised that they got such a small amount. Ok, they make the game in 3D instead of prerendered 2D, which might rub some people in the wrong way, but they did good in everything else. They are legendary adventure game devs, they could show the engine running, they made updates quite frequently, they are enthusiastic. It is really the Kickstarter fatique, others have talked about?

Um, if you compare them to other adventure game Kickstarters they got a ton.

They are legendary for fucking a good series up by introducing dumb gameplay elements and a large part of their established franchise does not like their latest offering. Can you not see how this could translate into a less than expected money raised?

Nah, outside the codex, tons of people enjoyed Dreamfall, though they didn't like the combat and stealth parts. I don't want to quote this stupid site, but the user reviews on Metacritic are on a 86% average. People liked it, just not as much as TLJ.

Infinitron - yes, but if you compare it to Obsidian, Double Fine or inXile, they get much less.

Double Fine is a special case. The others aren't adventure games.

Compare them to Broken Sword, or the various Sierra Kickstarters. They've gotten plenty.

It's possible that the former fans that do not like the new direction are the same crazy people as mind2x who are the ones willing to blow exorbitant amounts of money on KS projects that strike their fancy, which would mean far more money lost overall than the number of dissatisfied people would suggest.

Good point. I'm still disappointed by it.

The context is that adventure games KS are generally lucky to reach 400k, the DFA being the aberration not the standard.

Absolutely. I'd say $1.5 million dollars on Kickstarter is a rousing success. If I had raised that on Kickstarter, I would have been like "SO LONG, SUCKERS!" and bought a Humvee that I could use in a video for my next Kickstarter project.

Pledge withdrawn. For the first time of my life.
One of us. One of us. One of us. (nice edit)

Also fuck you, Ragnar, you cunt.

I did withdraw my pledge, it just sounded too butthurt :P

But that sucks. Why not do a seperate Kickstarter? I'm pretty sure they'd get much more money for it that way.

The Longest Journey Home will pick up right where The Longest Journey left off, filling in the 10-year gap unaccounted for in Dreamfall. But it will also extend beyond Dreamfall Chapters and conclude April’s adventure. And that comes as good news to the players that have been so invested in her fate over the last dozen years. April’s a special character, in part because she’s sometimes so--ordinary. As Tørnquist says, “She didn't feel like your typical game heroine: she felt like an actual person, like someone you might know. Someone you'd want to know. She had flaws, she was insecure, she struggled with her newfound powers and her destiny. She had doubts, she was close to giving up, but didn't. She had […] humanity. She had a soul.”
It really is blackmail.

Wouldn't a kickstarter to fund a remake of the original make more for them rather than this? Or just saying if this sells well after it's finished they could fund a remake of the original? I've just never seen a crowdfunding campaign on any website that tries to sell you multiple games for one pledge that has gone well.
