In DA:O city Elf orgin story is better for female Elf.
The worst and boring one is Dalish Elf.
If I recall correctly, the Dalish Elf origin gets one bonus in that it's more closely tied to the finale of the whole game (as in the final "find Morrigan" dlc).

It's still shit, but there is that.

They couldn't even be consistent in the terrible writing.

It is hard for people who live in made up multiple fantasy worlds to be consistent. Are they gay or trans today? Is it Frank or Trick that is dominant today? The sad fact is that game devs and writers these days are all paranoid schizophreniacs who should have been sent to the asylum as a child instead of being forced into schools and fucking up all the other kids.

Disclaimer: I know very little about DA, just the basics, such as what in general is the Blight, Fade, etc.

So, there's a scene in Veilgaurd where Rook and company find Solas' lyrium dagger. They look at it for a few seconds and Harding decides to push Rook (who is also a dwarf btw) away and go and grab it herself.
I'm not asking about what happened next, I'm asking what made her act this way. Again: no spoilers please.

1) Since the wiki tells me that processed lyrium is safe for anyone to touch, why did Harding go out of her way to make sure she's the one who picks it up? Did I miss anything about the dagger? Was it known to be dangerous or possibly dangerous and she just wanted to protect the rest of the team?
2) Since I don't actually know: is the lyrium dagger made with processed lyrium or unprocessed? Or does no one knows and maybe that's why Harding grabbed it, since dwarves are more resistant to unprocessed lyrium?
3) Am I simply missing something about the intel the team had about the dagger?

Again, please: no spoilers, not even a hint. Just wanna know some facts that one would know at that point of the game. I really don't get why Harding acted that way and just want to know why. Seemed very stupid, but I'd rather give the writers some benefit of the doubt (I know, I know...). If it's just "writers were being stupid", so be it. I just want to be sure, because maybe it's my lack of knowledge of the universe or maybe I missed something.
Someone add this asshole to the list

I know you guys at these forums are extremely assholish in general, but can you at least explain what I did wrong? Edit: Oh, I think I get it. You're just one of the mindless hater drones who judge games without playing them. I get it, Veilguard is a saturday morning cartoon game and not a DA game. But can you fuck off and, I dunno, hate on it somewhere else?

I would recommend using your brain instead of being a mindless drone, though. Play the game first before you judge it - that's the sensible thing to do. But I know you mindless drones refuse to use your brains, so I don't expect you to wisen up. Anyway, offtopic, so fuck off from the thread.

In so many of these conversation clips, it seems like each time there's a chance for some dramatic tension, someone defuses it with a joke. For example Bellara's "wasn't expecting to fight an ogre" lines.

It's a sign of a writer who is not taking their job seriously and can't immerse in their own creation.

So, how many GOTY nominations are we thinking, gentlemen? Will we see these clowns on stage with the Bill Clinton guy?

I have a soft spot for the setting and interactivity of DA:O and so this review from a Redditor that points out how D:V fails so spectacularly in respecting its own heritage struck me as a good read.

You know you done fucked up when somebody writes that many words in an angry rant.
Pretty good analysis of what's wrong with the narrative direction of the game though, worth a read imho.

Who remembers the discussion about Tali'Zorah's sweat? I'm waiting for essays on Rook's sweat.

Bioware fully embraced the Tali sweat meme and ran with it, they've put easter eggs about it in their games (iirc) so it's nothing really new.

The funny thing is that I don't remember the thread itself being that active, I was there and it reached like two or so pages with people mostly laughing about OP. The Miranda Butt discussion thread had like 2k pages though.

Only 73% on steam because long time da fans know it sucks so bad they didnt buy it. DA3 had major issues and, overall, is not a good game, but this game is 5000x worse. Not just as a DA game but as something that exists. Seriously, I couldn't finish DA3 because of the stupid mmo style quests and areas, but holy fukk Failguard makes DA3 look like a masterpiece. I dont think there's a single DA4 companion not even at the level of the worst DA3 companion. And, there's some bad shit companions in DA3. Then from what I gathered from spoilers, they decided to kill off one of the most popular DA companions off screen inbetween games just to use him as a Force Ghost to troll actual fans. lol On top of that, they decided to bodyshame Isabella by uglifying her. The less Saud about her bare the better. *barf*

Urgh.

Played through the DAO City Elf origin story. Kind of boring. The writing isn't very good in places, the human noble villain is is overly dramatic and doesn't feel like a real character as a result. The controls and camera viewpoint are awkward. The combat has depth obviously but it's not very engaging at the start because you have such limited access to stuff.

Still, what struck me more than anything is the complete control you have over what your character says. I can be a right bastard towards all the humans, even the human prince guy. Or I can be nice. I can even be horrible to members of my family, or the other elves in the city quarter. It's a far cry from Veilguard's neutered toxic positivity.

Anyway I don't think this origin is as good as the Dwarf Noble or the Human Noble ones.
The Dwarf Noble is the best origin, the Magi and Dwarf commoner are good. I liked the lore about the dwarves, Orzammar and ruthless dwarven politics. Nobles treating commoners and the Casteless dwarves as dirt and them living in squalor were pretty novel for RPGs. The double gut punch of Bhelen's betrayal with the battle of Ostagar and losing Duncan who saved your life is memorable if you start as Aeducan.
In DA:O city Elf orgin story is better for female Elf.
The worst and boring one is Dalish Elf.
Both Elven origins aren't good.
Caste system in Orzammar never really made sense though. How is it even feasible for dwarves to have a large underclass who serve no purpose except drain their resources? They cannot fight in the army as cannon fodder, they can't do any jobs which leads them towards crime. Why even keep them in the city then, what's their point?

The casteless were tolerated because they do things that "normal" dwarves don't want to do. Same with every caste system on Earth having an Untouchables caste.

DA Fandom - Sera is the worst.

I think that was the whole point of Bhelen's deal.
