The GoldBox games aren't about C&C. Just like Baldur's Gate isn't about C&C. Neither of these games become worse because they don't have C&C. You haven't "build a case against BioWare," you've build a case against Mass Effect.

What are you on about? Did you even bother to see how this conversation started? Looks like you have got something to prove and you are doing that here. Good enough. Just leave me out of it.

Recap of our conversation:

You: BioWare games fail at C&C.

Me: No, only Mass Effect tries and fails.

You: All the other BioWare games don't have C&C either.

Me: Are the GoldBox games bad because they lack C&C?

You: No.

Me: Well neither is Baldur's Gate, NWN or KotOR.

You: LEAVE ME OUT OF THIS MESS

Sex and Bioware
(...)
What matters though isn't really the execution, but the willingness to try. Bioware is a fascinating study into sexuality both for what they've gotten right, and what they've gotten wrong over the years. Mass Effect 2 for instance dropped a major clanger when BioWare co-founder Dr Ray Muzyka declaring Commander Shepard to be straight due to being 'a defined character with certain approaches and worldviews'.
(...)
With each game though, Bioware has gone out of its way to Do Better, and not always by heading down the obvious path. Dragon Age 2 for instance infamously made all of its romanceable characters (the entire party save for Varric and Aveline) bisexual so that any player would be able to get with anyone they wanted. Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect 3 reverses that approach, deciding that sexuality is an important part of the characters and that it can be as jarring for everyone you meet to be an option as to be politely refused. Some characters are still bisexual. Most now have their preferences, with Dragon Age expanding on gender to factor in species as well. Qunari especially seem limited in who they can give the horn.
(...)
The fact that Bioware's push for inclusiveness and increasingly not defining characters by their sexuality first makes for better and more well-rounded games though isn't the real reason we should be glad that they do it. The big advantage is that in doing it, it demonstrates to the rest of the world that it can be done. Lest we forget, in the last few years Bioware has been taken to task by Fox News for simply showing a few seconds of alien buttocks on screen, been inundated with letters about LGBT content in its games, and even had to fight its own fans over expectations and entitlement. This is not a small amount of pressure, and the path of least resistance is to crack, especially in the US where fears over sex trump those of violence any day of the week. Instead, Bioware repeatedly doubles down on diversity, which is all the more notable when put next to its capitulation over the Mass Effect 3 ending. That was simply a matter of spaceships and explosions. Whatever. This however is something very close to its creative heart, and is treated as such.
(...)
May Bioware sign itself up for many more such fights in the future, because they're in all our interests. In success, hurrah, fantastic. In stumbling, they show how much further we still have to go, and how even the best of intentions doesn't always pay off as you might think. Either way though, I'm grateful they keep trying, and setting an example worth following.

Yeah enabling pirates in the false hope they will buy your product eventually is really a solid reason for not using an encryption scheme. Software pirates should be inquisitioned until they die (horribly) from it (although dai is a borderline case).
I'll just assume it's a joke.

You left out the funniest bits:

It's interesting to see the implementation though, and some of the details that Gaider makes a point of adding - not least that he's introduced with a young and admirable man, Felix, who he's clearly enamoured with on multiple personal levels, but is genuinely surprised at the suggestion that anything might have been going on between them - at both the idea, and that he'd be impolite enough to abuse his former master's hospitality so. At the same time though, his personal quest does go more or less exactly where you'd expect - his father who once tried to change him, and the attempted reconciliation between the two that probably deserves a tinkling bit of music and an "It Gets Better" type slogan appearing for good measure.
Such originality. Such subtlety.

This doesn't however mean that Bioware is stepping back from the trickier issues. One of the new secondary characters is a woman living as a man in a Qunari run mercenary group, who hotly denies any suggestion that she's simply 'passing'. Like Dorian, the implementation of the scene is a little on-the-nose, mostly by having her boss make a point of adding that his people are cool with that so that there can be an unspoken "Don't say you're less tolerant than the Qunari?"

It's for everyone's good. Really. The more taboos are broken, the more uncharted ground explored, the more exciting the possibilities we get to see. And before anyone starts throwing around letters like SJW, there's a side for you too. Where for instance was Fox News when, say, The Witcher 2 was doing graphic sex scenes like this one? Nowhere, that's where, because that battle was done, over, and deemed boring right from the second that the world did not in fact end.

Now that's interesting. He's implying that there's a dichotomy or rivalry between "SJW Bioware" and "muh soggy knees CD Projekt", and is pointing out that it's ironic that the former has helped the latter.

I wonder if Bioware was also responsible for there not being an outrage over the Dethmold castration scene? :codexisfor:

You're a joke if you think there's a significant number of people who pirate a game to try it, then delete it and actually buy it if proven good. That's fucking bullshit and either pathetic faggots who are so fucking weak to admit they're thieves or keyboard warriors desperately trying to win an argument use this stupid excuse to whatever reason.

I would even argue that number of people, who would otherwise pirate the game, but are forced to actually buy it/buy it on sale by this DRM, might be larger than the number of people who would stole it just to see if it's good or not. There's youtube/streaming for this shit now anyway...

There are videos of competent people, you just have to search harder. It's just that videos of "youtube personalitites" come up first and those people usually don't know what they're doing...

Works for me but whatever.

Let's put it in that way. Last Bioware releases were wonky(from terrible - DA2, to boring and uninspired - TOR). Next one is behind awful, uncackable DRM system.

Imagine you're huge DA:O fan(game received exceptionally huge following for it's quality but whatever). It's obvious that DA2 wasn't good game so you've burned on it. Will you trust bioware again? Gameplay seems to be very similar to DA2, just with possibility of being tactical at times, from few released bits we can tell that writing and voice acting is questionable at best, from what we know plot sound dangerously Oblivion-ish.

Oh gee I see all those DA:O fans buying it blind. Sure as fuck.

Streams/LP's are fucking shit because:
1) faggots who stream games can't into playing games
2) spoilers
3) being timewasters(game contains shittons of fetch quests, I can see you watching some terrible retard doing them, on the other hand skipping through it means - skipping the part of gameplay YOU CAN'T SKIP)
4) Watching other people playing games is lame

Project: Eternity Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
Telengard please...
1. Witcher is hack n' slash that tries to be crpg - but still nice h n's.
2. Witcher 2 and 1 were playable after long time and few "big" patches, at their realease they were piece of coding shit.
3. I just hate that they are trying to compare themselves to Bethesda and say between words than Witcher will be better than ES , especially Skyrim.
For god sake, when Bethesda makes lore and first great games from ES, CdP chiefs were selling "questionable" versions of games from their table at the market.
It's good that they are strong company, but they are nowhere near level of deep lore of ES. Not to say universe of Witcher is not their creation. No to mention about world editors, just look at quality and number of mods from morrowind to skyrim, fallout NV and F3 - look at Nexus mods.
Sapkowski literature is somewhere beneath level of RA Salvatore plus more ohoho"im so adult and dangerous" "bad words" and "mature", "dark" content for nerds who don't see naked women in their life.
It's just very decent fantasy which has its good moments but it's pretty boring and schematic as a whole.
4. UI in Witchers sucks big time from perspective of "normal" mouse+keyboard player and i agree with taxalot. If i want to play cprg with gamepad then it will mean that
im deviant or that im really in psychiatric asylum or matrix. Crpgs are meant to be played with mouse and keyboard. When you play pen and paper rpg you are not doing it by holding smartfon.

As for main topic, despites all deviant agenda in Inqusition it will be last good crpg game this year from AAA department, like it or no but Bioware have arisen from DA2 fall.
DA2 was greedy step from EA and i think Bioware had to deal with it, to complete sequel of Origins in such a short time.
There are points i truly don't like at Inquisition but there are hell lot more i just love and that matters. Sure i will want that makers of D:OS, Xulima or Underrail had milions of $ that AAA developers has,
and can bring us more creative crpg worlds, full of nerdy content. But that's life .
:excellent:
You are a pathetic piece of shit. Saying that DAI will be a good cRPG, meanwhile shitting on Witcher 1-2? Witcher 2 UI was easily playable with keyboad and mouse, if you have the brain capacity to do it.

Crpgs are meant to be played with mouse and keyboard.
And yet you hail DAI as the great crpg of 2014? Jesus Christ, fucking newfags.

[Witcher lore]It's just very decent fantasy which has its good moments but it's pretty boring and schematic as a whole.
And again, you are all for DAI. Do you have a brain tumor?

Laidlaw did number of one hour long walkthroughts on twitch. Would you say the creative director himself can't into playing his own game?

Anyway, you're missing the fucking point: There's not a significant number of people who would pirate a game, like it, uninstall it, delete it, buy it, continue... The world is a shitty place and your idea is naive. There's you (kudos if it's true btw) and two other people doing it. That's it.

it's well established that Bioware devs don't like to play games and prefer interactive stories instead
its not. some of their writers in the past were not good players and they admitted that but its not like MCA is better player then Helpler :M

I have faith in Russian demigod crackers, someday I'll pirate Dragon Age: Circumcision and have some mindless fun.
Plus I'm replaying DA2 at the moment, dunno why you bash it so much, it's not everyday that you get to play a decent beat-em-up with RPG elements

Because he isn't even that good a writer. At the time when Sapkowski started publishing in Poland, there wasn't much (if anything) comparable available, which in my opinion contributed to his fame. His books were translated, and yet so far he hasn't "made it" on the international market. Which I think is something CDProjekt gambled on (counting on the Polish fanbase), but in my opinion lost out in the end. Geralt is just not that recognizable as a character outside of Poland (and in my personal opinion a boring one too), so if they allowed for playing an anonymous witcher instead, they would have probably made more sales internationally.

BAD NEWS CODEX!!!

DA:I uses the Denuvo anti-piracy system for the PC version of the game. Which hasn't been cracked yet.

If you want to ride the bull, then you're going to have to buy the game... Or pirate the super shitty 360/PS3 version.

http://forum.bioware.com/topic/519257-denuvo-drm-used-by-dai/

This is GREAT news. It means that no-one will be able to hide behind the old "I'm playing it, but it's OK, I pirated it, bros" -line. If you're posting impressions and screenshots in the next few days, you'll be outed with 100% certainty as having given BioWare cash for this shallow, shitty little action game.

No, The Witcher 2's UI works terrible with keyboard and mouse. Inventory and skills screen are overly large and a pain to navigate through. When you're highlighting an item in the inventory list it triples in size, discards weight/value info and adds category info. This drastic change makes the list a pain to go through with the mouse, and it actually works better with the directional keys. The mouse is all about precision, you don't want objects to change in size when you hover over them - you want to do that on a gamepad though, to tell where the hell you are.

(Also, what the hell is up with the World of Goo design on the ability screen? In Skyrim, you fly through space to pick a perk. In The Witcher 2, the ability tree is made up of goo balls that wobble around when you hover over them. I- I don't... Why are UI designers insane?)

Worst is dialogue. The dialogue options keep jumping around over the screen, forcing you to chase it down with a topping of mouse lag. This works on a gamepad without hassle, but with keyboard and mouse it's just another spit in your face from this half-assed console port.

Discredit where discredit is due.

The Witcher has OK UI though. The talents screen could've squeezed everything into one tab instead of 4, other than that, it's OK.

:what:

It was already obvious to not have a high expectations about that particular character, but expectation to understand what the hell she's talking about isn't that high. At least everyone in DA 2 managed to fulfill at least that.
