You can practice in bot games too. The bots are awful at laning (they'll do things like switch back and forth between running away and towards you while casting nothing, or run towards your tower when you attack them) but it's still good for getting the timings down and practicing different hero abilities. You can make your own game filled with bots on both teams instead of against bots too, so you won't have to worry about a guy screwing up stuff you're trying to practice.

The bots are still dangerous though. They tend to pick a lineup with a lot of stuns, are are incredibly precise and coordinated when it comes to chain stunning you, and knowing the moment they can finish you off with a spell.

Well, I think I am done with LoL. I am not getting any better at the game and the players make me rage way too fucking hard; it can't be good for my lifespan. Are any of you willing to tutor me in Dota 2 next week? I'm very green and probably not very good- but I know that, so I'll only appreciate your teachings. At least in Dota 2 I can get raged at by people I vaguely know over the internet. I tend to play PST 6 AM - 2:30 PM, depending on how work is.

Steam is "Lemmington".
So you left lol because the players make you rage and then started playing dota 2?

You really shouldn't play against bots much, though. Even if you're bad, you have to play against people to learn anything. Playing against bots is for when you're drunk and otherwise you would be watching TV or something.

How often does Valve send out new batches of beta invites? I never really got into to DOTA back in the day but never too late to start I guess. Been playing LoL for the past year or so but all the heroes and items seem so bland compared to DOTA and the meta is static as fuck.

I think nowadays they try to invite as many people as possible. Maybe go re-do their little entrance application? One of my friends did have to do that and he got an invite within 24 hours. Every single one of my friends who play this game (I mean Dota 1) has eventually gotten an invite, and it's one of the most played games on Steam (like in the top 3, most days), so clearly they're not trying to keep a select crowd.

I've taken the survey on like three accounts so I guess I should get an invite any time now. Probably not a good thing since I have a feeling I'm gonna get addicted and fail all my coursework. Do you guys play any in house games?

I am convinced you get invites earlier based on how many Steam games you have, like I have something like 100 and I got invited very quickly, but my friends with less games got invited much later.

We don't play inhouse, there's just no organization. We should have a chat channel just called RPGCodex, I will create it next time I play, but the problem is just nobody really tries to be organized. With DR I've just been inviting him to play with my friends and I.

I guess my disdain for intellectual property rights has finally caught up to me.

Well I'll probably be up for getting some in house shit going once I've been cured of my League-babby ways.

I am really hoping for Ogre Magi today, over Chaos Knight. But either would be excellent. Giving us useless, worthless treant last week was a dick move.

Treant not having eyes makes me sad. Was the only decent feature he had besides ult.

Now I get guys standing next to towers in game to heal them. Ugh. Not to mention everyone forgetting he's yet another invis hero. Hey guys we have Riki BH Invoker, I think what we really need now is Treant and Kunkaa with a Shadowblade!!!one

In other news, Antimage (Magebane was such a better name) wins games that could be won by many other heroes but is far more boring to play and doesn't get counterpicked 30 times over by some jewish Necro/AA/Viper/Axe all blademail lineup.

He's supposed to be a kind of weird support ganker teamfight guy, the problem is Living Seed isn't strong enough in any particular role (also in pubs your teammates will continue running anyway despite the heal). Not enough nuke to nuke, not enough slow to slow properly, not enough heal to make a difference really.

Also, looks like Ogre is the next hero. I am gonna be shitting my pants watching people fuck him up cause they can pick faster.

At least having a billion people play him won't be as annoying as a billion people playing treant or *shudder* PL.

I have an idea: Players new to the game Fucking morons should be forced to purchase a tp scroll any time they're at a shop, and unable to fill their 6th item slot with anything but more tp scrolls. Also, every time they attack a creep at full health or do an unstacked pull during the first 6 minutes of the game they should be forced to listen to and read an explanation of why they're bad and the pissed off guy in lane with them is totally fucking justified.

Not :x at all bros. Nope.

I know how you feel. Anyways now that Magi is in the game and CK is coming next, now there's only 3 more heroes I'm really waiting for: Gyro, Pit Lord, Feeder of the Light

Opinions on the new hero pick UI? I think it is terrible, the old one was quite nice the way it allowed you get an overview of all of them by category. The reaction on forums and on the chat channels seem overwhelmingly negative as well, no idea who thought this would be good it makes me rage. :x

I think every aspect of the new UI is pretty bad -- really didn't see what was wrong with it before.

I think that the universal opinion, even among all the really stupid people who make up the dota community, is that the new UI for hero picking is horrible. I haven't talked to anyone who wasn't seriously upset about how bad it was.

BTW, I've been playing with Codex people the last few days, at random, my nick on Steam right now is Feeder of the Light. Playing with Codex people is a lot better because in general they're at least competent or good, it's a lot more fun to play. So send friend invites, so we can all play together.

Oh, man. I just played a game with Humppaleka, here from the Codex, and it was the most perfect game. I don't know if it's because of the late hour, or because his MMR is way better than mine, but I got placed into the best team I think I've ever played with on Dota 2. I ended up going something like 12-0 with Brewmaster not because I was especially brilliant, but because our whole team was fucking good. THAT type of game is what is fun.

The enemies weren't even bad, either, I think their main disadvantage was hero selection.

That was win #99

That was pretty beautiful. :obviously: Naix is one of my favourite heroes, such a fun dude. He even has 3 active skills *gasp* even though he is relatively a right-click hero. Well, which carry wasn't.
