Larian won me over with the SP gameplay video and Swen answered me on Twitter regarding the editor (they'll have video tutorials and documents for the editor, and the duo dialogue system is special for their SP campaign and won't be default for player-created stuff).
I'll go for the limited $65 if there are any left tomorrow evening. Dragon Commander looks like something innovative, if nothing else.

Having arbitrary standards of pseudosimulation when it comes to enchanted items is the kind of nonsense that makes me believe these jokers will never make a great game. ;)

I don't know about great games, but these jokers have already made 2 games at least on par with anything Obsidian has ever made.
Which two would those be? Divine and Beyond Divinity were shit. Divinity 2 was better than NWN2 OC but that's a pretty low bar. Flames of Vengeance was decent enough, but it's no Mask of the Betrayer.

All right - I'm off to sleep guys. Tomorrow we have some Dragon Commander news and a bit of DOS news, but the day is long, so who knows what else it might bring. If contrary to our projections we make it to 300K, we'll have to do an ad-hoc update. In 17 hour it'll be exactly one week that we started this campaign btw.
On the promotion front & getting things to the masses - we have Total Biscuit responding to communication so there's some hope that we might get him to play it. We have Matt Chat on friday. I'm still waiting for a bunch of articles to come out, especially in Germany. And we're open to any ideas that might increase the video views - we're staying on the 19% conversion rate so that's good, but the count remains low (last I looked it was around 32K views)
Also -we could use some help with the translation of the updates in French, Germany, Russian & Polish. Volunteers, please mail to info@larian.com. Thank you in advance!

Eh, if they're willing to fork money for it -- by all means, go for it. At least this one has a clear tongue-in-cheek policy.

Not like we didn't have similar shit with Mama's gang or whatever the fuck the awkward circle of comradery that HHR/Sheek/Guido Fawkes were. At least now these people are putting up more money for an awesome game.

Also, your use of that picture is very creepy.

Why the fuck is this only at 275k? It looks/sounds great, the masses should gobble it up.

It's the Roguey Shitposting Hour. With your host Roguey.

Gotta admit this video is extremelly inclining, it's 3D but it looks tastier than that Torment 2D screenshot. Yes, I really said it.

The only problem I can smell from mile away is the TotEE syndrom - combat and character dev. superb, but the story and setting banal shit boring high-fantasy turdpie. Hope I'm criminally wrong though.

If my experience with past games by them is anything to go by, not taking themselves too seriously might help them avoid the worst clichés to a degree.

Because good games don't sell, only dreams do. Look at W2/Torment/PE, no gameplay has been shown, only idea and everyone dreams up their own dream game in their mind based on nostalgia of the old and OMGITZGUNNABEBESTRPGEVER I HAVE TO PLEDGE LOADS OF MUNNIEZ.

For all we know so far, Original Sin might be better than than w2/torment/pe

Ya know, I don't fucking get it. There are so many detailed, original, well-thought out, tried-by-time fictional worlds and settings created by successful professional authors (and I'm not talking about giants like Steven Erikson or G. R. R. Martin here) that'd gladly licence them away dirt cheap. But developers insist on writing their games themselves, just to save a little dough. Then they create very good games set in stupid banal boring-to-tears worlds with comically bad plots and dialogues, case in point being Divinity, Two Worlds, Risen and so many others.

Despair, despair everywhere.

They don't even have to go that far for inspiration, take the tragically underused Midnight Campaign as an example, it's set in a world where "Sauron" basically won the war, would make for a perfect dark fantasy rpg, and as it's based off D&D it would be "easier" to translate into crpg format.

Hey, doesn't Chaos Chronicles use that setting, or something VERY similar?

I don't know why do you guys automatically assume that the story will be shit? You know something I don't? o_O

NO. Those are not just dreams.

Those are already established known IPs who many people came to know and love and talk about - all enhanced by the lack of anything like it fater for more then 10 years.

Its not "dreams".

Personally i assume it will have a less than good story because of their previous work, i know many here appreciate Larian's take on standard fantasy tropes, but i find their game world boring and their writing amateurish, tho i still enjoyed the hell out of Divine Divinity and to a lesser extent the Dragon Knight Saga.

As with anything it's down with personal tastes, and i'm currently reading through a lot of non standard fantasy and scifi books so that's probably influencing me somewhat.

Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Divinity 2. The humor was the only thing I liked about Div2, and well, anyone can be tongue-in-cheek about fantasy tropes. Parody is low-hanging fruit.

I never found Divinity to be particularly heavy on parody, they just maintain a sense of humor. Then again, 'parody' is one of those magical words people use without knowing what it means.
