Here, have a good summary:

Henchmen vs. Companions
  • There will be more Henchmen than Companions
  • Henchmen can be bought from Recruiters or occasionally in the wild. Companions will be found throughout the world of Rivellon and they will be related to the story.
  • There are many Henchmen, so there will be many different combat builds. (Ex. Fire mage, Big Crushing Weapons Guy, Healing henchman, Rogueish character). Companions will also be specialized in some combat builds, but because there are less of them than Henchmen, there won't be one for every type of build.
  • Henchmen will have backgrounds, so if you ask them (who are you, where do you come from) they'll have something sensible to say, but they'll be picking their background from a pool of available backgrounds. If they have, let's say, 300 Henchmen, and 50 pools of backgrounds, they'll pick one and assign it to the Henchmen you recruited. Henchmen will have dialogues that will come from a pool of dialogues that fit with those backgrounds. But these won't be very complex, it'll just be simple dialogues. Companions will have a lot of backgrounds. They'll have an entire story arc. They'll have a lot of things to tell you, and a lot of dialogue, more complex than Henchmen.
  • Henchmen will not react to what the party does during the adventure. Companions will have an opinion on what you do, and they won't shy away from venting that opinion to your face.
  • Henchmen won't be involved in the Affection & Affinity system that the main characters use. Companions will be part of the Affection & Affinity system.
  • There is a system called Morale. A high Morale means you're better in combat, a low Morale, you suck at combat. Henchmen do have Morale, but it affects Companions much more. You can improve a Henchman's Morale with cold hard cash, but Companions have different requirements. Morale also affects all the characters in the world, but that's for another time.
  • Henchman have no story and no quests associated with them. Companions do have a story and quests. You can help them out or not, depending on how you play the game.
  • Companions will have unique visuals. They'll have their own talents, their own traits and some special skills (presumably unique skills).

Okay, let's clear up some confusion!

If you pledge to back a henchman you will get to design a character and yes, he or she will have a unique background and dialogue. The difference between them and companions is simply that the story line of companions will be very deep and diverse - like Dragon Commander. There will be a limited number of them because they require very very much work. We can't possible do that for every henchman.

But that is where the difference ends. You'll make the guy or girl you like; design their look; their abilities; their build; their background; what they have to say. They will feel like individuals, not puppets, it's just that they won't have separate quests.

Have another look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch…

Between minutes 3.04 and 3.34 you can see Axel customising a character. This is an example of how you'll be able to create a look for your hench(wo)man.

I hope this answer helps to undo the confusion!

This editor... Bros, some great things can (and hopefully will) be created with it.
I wish I was 10 years younger, a university student with loads of free time. Maybe then one of those great things would be created by me.

When is Kirill's concert today or tomorrow?

It is Friday the 26th, after Swen and David's live playthrough.

Yeah, i find the timing really a shame. After all, the best time for Kickstarter pledges is an hour from now and for the next 5 hours- just before the KS will end tomorrow.

Timezone wise I get why they chose the hour they did but pledgewise it'd indeed have been more interesting to pick a different time :S.

24 hours to go on KS. Around $180,000 needed for a million. A few weeks ago was a bit worried about Traits and Talents, and now Schedules and Weather actually might be possible. Looking forward to party tomorrow.

KS UPDATE said:
Less than 24 hours to go!!!

Well, you know what the final stretch goal is! We'll remind you in a next update, but that's all there's left to reach on this wonderful KIckstarter campaign. Think we can do 200K in 24 hours ? The game is on!
800K reached!!!

Companions, check. Congratulations all on reaching this stretch goal!!! This game is getting better and better, so much in fact that we're starting to wonder what's going to be left for us to do afterwards :)
Since we just did a big companion update, we're not going to redo it here. If you've seen it, you know that as a RPG aficionado you should rejoice! There are going to be some seriously wicked companions roaming around the world of Rivellon!
As behind the scenes as it gets

This is the type stuff our audience is never supposed to see, but which we deal with on a daily basis. Full monty! It's the type of stuff you can participate in if your tier includes alpha or beta access. Check out the add-ons below if you're in doubt.

Don't forget - closing event

The kickstarter campaign has been going so well for us that we've been stepping up the rate of updates, and we plan to go out on a bang! In the final four hours of the Kickstarter campaign, Swen and David will be playing Divinity: Original Sin together, live on twitch.tv. Will they co-operate? Or compete?
In Closing

This campaign has seen whole RPG communities mobilise to support us. We never expected so much support & it's been very motivating for us. We also noticed there's quite a few creative people out there following our Kickstarter, and so we wanted to share with you some of their work :)

And they need a 900k goal to bridge the gap to a million :x

Yeah, they should add a 900k goal if they can (obviously one that is manageable with their need for the 200k for the 1 million goal) to spur a late rush and then maybe the paypal extension after it closes can finish it off to 1 mill.
