Does anyone know how old Swen Vincke actually is? He's got that ageless sort of look. Even his hair looks like it he could be platinum blonde as opposed to grey.

Forktong, if you're around, got a question from SA:

I'm still a bit confused about the henchmen. Are there going to be henchman in the world aside from the ones you can hire at the Mercenaries guild, or do they all come from there? Do the backer-created henchmen get personalities at $800k, or would only henchmen created by Larian get them?

Only reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously considering the $200 tier.

He basically wants to know what the Design a Henchman means.

I think it was answered yesterday in Reddit.
Henchman and companions are different, but the game will feature both.
While the latter have personalities and associated quests, the former have not.
So you design a henchman with name and looks (?), I guess, but that's it.

At least that's how I understood it.
Of course the Companions goal probably make henchmen somewhat less attractive.

My understanding is that Henchmen have the barebones of background/personalities, while companions are full-fledged companions with their own quests.
EDIT:
Future sequels using Original Sin engine = :yeah:
Yeah, that update was pretty freaking great. I have HIGH hopes for this editor.

This is awesome! So in that new Udate #28:

- They will be making newer games using the toolset that comes with DOS. Updates (from building a new game with this) to the toolset and assets will be available to the people using the DOS editor. FUCK YES!
- Someone at Larian spent just 1 week and re-created the first areas of Divine Divinity (just to show what you can do with the editor). I hope somebody does this, be it fan or Larian. If Larian did it as say an Expansion or something, that would mean more professional art assets. That would be a good thing. But again, they said they are not doing that, at this time (but who knows).

Re-watch that again. Swen said specifically they are NOT doing that at this time. It was to show what is possible in the toolset.

I would love it if they did though.
They said they are not doing Divine Divinity with it, they said they ARE going to do other games with the engine (with no precisions on what those games would be, but there are good odds they will be in the same IP).

Yeah, I understood the same as Gord, the 800k doesn't upogrades henchmen; instead it adds the companions, that are different characters with backgrounds and all that.

BTW ForkTong, any chance those new companions will be very... distinct? Maybe even from other races?

Erm, he only said that they are not making a complete DD remake in the OS engine. They will actually make more games using it.

Nah, in the first 1-2 mins he definitely says that the engine was created for Original Sin and they plan on making more games in the same engine. I just assumed that would mean sequels, since they don't really do anything outside of the Divinity world.

Yeah one would assume it would be a New Divinity game. I just hope after the KS Swen takes a moment to crunch the numbers and see if they could afford for a small team at Larian to do Divine Divinity with this engine though. That would be fucking sweet. <3

How feasible is it for a group of modders to actually remake DD with your tools?

I wonder what the odds are of them offering Divine Divinity made with the D:OS as an add-on in the kickstarter for their next game assuming they do a kickstarter for their next game as well. While I love the original DD and it certainly pulls off the realtime a lot better than B did I'd still love to see it with updated mechanics, graphics etc.

Imagine Divine Divinity with a party, even more interactive environments, npc schedules AND turnbased combat.

Pretty low, honestly. Divine Divinity is big and it would probably take at least half as long to re-make it for the OS engine as it would to make a brand new game.
