Finally got around to trying this. Thank God for Steam refunds.

Why do you guys like visual novel adventure games so much? Jesus.

Maybe next time read up of what the game is about it's not like they made it a secret...

Ho right.

Yes, you need to read with the full on shitty narration of everything. There were a few points that made me laugh in what I got out of it, but the game's so far up its own ass, I couldn't even. It's no wonder that you're a fan though.

I doubt that Lyric Suite is a fan tho.

I didn't even play the the game yet i'm too poor to buy it.

The point i was making is that it is pretty much known that this game is basically all text so complaing that you have to read all the time just means you either didn't read what the game was like (teh ironing) or somehow you still expected something else despite everybody pointing out this game is extremely heavy on reading.

It would be like getting into Diablo and complain all you did in the game was kill kill kill with little story or quests. Well, no shit.

It's been two years, dude.
And you wrote quite a lot about how you don't like this game iirc.
Maybe pirate it already, for G-d's sake.

I never said anything about not liking the game, i just voiced some objections to the ideals expressed in it which is not the same thing.

But you didn't played it and know jackshit about the context...
Let me expand - it's pretty well understood the premise and gameplay of Disco Elysium, in fact, I believe last week someone finally uploaded a youtube video of gameplay. It was only about 3 minutes, but one could argue that the essence of gameplay could be established. Maybe someone didn't played it, and you did played it. I doubt anyone needs me to intervene, but I'm just pointing out that this game has been out for a few years and voicing an opinion on its mechanics isn't something only veterans can do. Even the common man can pontificate without speaking from ignorance of the esoteric rules that make up Disco Elysium.

Sure, but stating that apparently the game expresses certain ideals without having ever played it is still dumb.

How do you know which ideals are expressed in the game if you've never played it? Are we really at the point where it's legitimate to form an opinion on something solely based on online reviews and YouTube videos?

EDIT: unless by ideals somehow Lyric meant design ideals, but I don't think that's the case

I can't answer for anyone other than myself. Familiarity breeds contempt and as someone who played Disco Elysium, maybe I'm not seeing the deep underlying message - but I've played a lot of games. For me, anything not as deep as games such as Stonekeep or Hexen, well, I have to poke fun at.

I will say that the thought cabinet stuff was pretty funny and the inexplicable feminist agenda made me laugh. It's one of those things that I sort of get why people can enjoy it while it's still not really what I'm looking for in a game and isn't an RPG. I was impressed though that it's labelled "RPG" while being even less of one than PST. *shrugs* YMMV

Pretentious hipster adventure games are not the same thing as RPGs.

You can LARP as a raging fascist/monarchist/communist/ultraliberal. That covers most of the Codex (political) spectrum I'd think.

You can do all those things but always according to their understanding of what any of them mean, so the game can still be slanted towards a certain point of view.

Does game allow metaphysician playthrough or parapolitical musings?

Kinda but it's so fucking boring because the entire game is smaller than the average starting city in a good RPG. I almost disassociate every single time I play it due to droning music, shitty narration I turned off, and surreal quasi realistic locales. It doesn't do metaphysical very well, it tries, but I am left feeling like the dude is just a crazy druggy and they don't give it a fair shake if that makes sense.

The Demographics of Codex players of Disco Elysium:

- Those who didn't play but know it's shit
- Those who played but didn't read
- Those who played, read, but didn't understand (aka "It's communist propaganda")
- Those who played, read, and appreciated it as a whole, composed of art, sound, music, story, language, characters.

Yeah you can appreciate it as that but the people that act like it isn't just pretentious /pol drama in video game form crack me up. I hope they can try making more of a game next time (less talking to the same 10 NPC's) because Planescape did it better.

I honest to god found much different stuff in it with regards to subject and themes. The political for me was part of the backdrop, part of the setting, but never the center.
