Huh, that could actually be a good idea. Not that many games attempted to have a mental health bar, Fahrenheit is the only one I can think of.

It could be neat. Maybe have your sanity meter slowly decrease as you spend more time on your own. Killing other players reducing it greatly. Finding shit to preoccupy yourself like books n' shit brings it up. Could be neat.

I usually get on the codex ventrilo server when I play. I'll hook up with you if you show up.

This game needs proper netcode then consider adding more shit, its hilariously bad.

but still this is most fun i had in years , i wish more devs would have guts to publish such brutal/unforgiving games , instead of trying to cater to uber casual crowd.

I'm starting to wonder why bother making your server 'Veteran' if you have Third Person:ON and Crosshairs? A few days ago I really didn't care if someone got 'delight' from watching their character for the 'cinematic experience'. I also thought that the target crosshairs wouldn't make a difference as long as it wasn't highlighting you in bushes 100 metres away.

Now I'm thinking that these are just 'sniper happy' servers. When I'm laying in the grass in 1st Person I can't see shit even if I have an over view of the town/valley/whatever. But in 3rd Person, well.

This has probably been discussed to death on the official forums but I'm just going to stick to the 'pure' veteran servers. It would be nice if veteran meant just that. No 3rd person, no crosshairs. Kind of a pain sifting through it all but it's nice to have a level playing field.

What do you mean by 'proper netcode'? I think this has some of the best netcode I've seen in years, works great in above 100ms situations with PVP, everything else you can play into the 200ms range. I seriously don't know how they're pulling it off. What are you comparing it to that makes it 'hilariously bad'?

The 1.7 beta patch is notoriously laggy. Everybody experiences multiple server desyncs, or waiting a minute for a can to move to your inventory. There is also sometimes really noticable lag when it comes to shooting zombies or people for that matter.

Heh, I was just about to post that Berezino and the NE is a safe goldmine, but some guy camping in a deer stand just took me out. Oh and holy fuck the lag is really getting intolerable, some guy runs by me out of nowhere, and then bam I'm dead.

I've had it take a few seconds before to pick something up and add it to inventory, not two minutes but a few seconds. I assubed the character database was just getting hammered. Normally when I put a bullet between a zombie's eyes it's pastes a bullet hole on his forhead and drops him although I have had a few times where I had to empty a clip to kill one. Also noticed warping of another player at times.

I think maybe because I'm usually playing alone maybe it isn't noticeable. Plus I usually have the latest arma2 patch and only play on servers where that exact version is a requirement. Not sure, I've read about all kinds of issues but haven't run into many of them myself. Certainly nothing game breaking.

Well I got my first kill. Two actually.

Was making my way through Mogilevka, high off the camo suit I had just found, when I see another dude coming out a house in front of me. He goes prone and I duck behind the building. Knowing it's pointless I still type: Friendly? over direct chat. After a couple of seconds of no response I make my way around the building and sure enough there's the dude with an m4 crouching behind a bush. I pop a couple of shots at him, but he doesn't fall down, so thinking it's lag or something I frantically run into a nearby barn and begin disposing of like 20 zombies that were attracted to me. After camping the doorway in fear for a few moments I type in global that we can still go our seperate ways. He starts yelling at me that he was friendly and I didn't have to kill him, which I did apparently. Supposedly he had nothing but a pistol and invited me to see for myself, but I was way too gripped with fear to do so.

So as I begin to retreat towards Starye, somebody starts shooting me and lands a few hits. I see a prone guy in front of the cow barn shooting away with his winchester at something. At this point I'm fucking terrified and blaming everything on the lag, so I pump him full of pistol rounds and run the fuck inside. I see that he's being eaten by zombies, but over global it turns out that there are six guys in the area. Somehow I was able to run back into the woods, but all I got from this run was a camo suit and in return I lost half my ammo and 8k of blood.

Oh and that first guy swore revenge on me, so I guess I've made a lifelong enemy too.

I see VOSSdex in a server and got kicked due to ping too high.
So with global/side disabled for the beta patch we pretty much need CDS or ventrilo to communicate.

DAMMIT one of the servers bugged out and fucked me big time.

19 Murders and countless more attempts later, I spawned in the wilderness and though I went East (had a compass, so no misdirections), I never arrived at the edge of the map area. After running East for 15 minutes and still not seeing anything, I put the game on autopilot and left for 45 minutes. I was still running in the wilderness when I came back. Either I'm bugged for good or I must have spawned to the NW outside the map so I had been moving East towards nowhere. I'll try South. If still nothing, I'll just have to off myself.

In some servers, you can still use global/side chat. It's weird.

Just a word of warning, there is a bug which might send you into the ocean or debug forest if you change into the ghillie suit, so avoid wearing a mop for the time being.

Oh and also - THERE ARE BICYCLES IN THE GAME NOW!

Here's one I like. Some squad got enough parts together to fix a helicopter. They just need to get it out of the hanger and take it for a test flight.

Yes, there's lots of great stories in the making. You really have no idea what's going to happen when you logon.

I think I've only had about two or three murders in the many, many hours that I've played. Quite often I'm able to say 'Friendly' or just not shoot someone and we both go our own ways. Of course I've been sniped quite a bit or simply stalked and ambushed or jumped while looting a store. I generally play the avoidance game when possible. I have to admit when I've been alive for a few days and have lot's of good loot I'm more willing to shoot first if I have no choice.

Although Murders are reset each time you spawn and 'Humanity' isn't displayed in the debug monitor anymore, rocket did say that 'Humanity' is still being tracked and that it will have consequences. I wonder what it could mean and what it will be?

It will probably mean I'm fucked LOL. My total count must be around 40. This last life was the longest I went without dying and I logged off only once, not to escape death but because frame rate crawled to a slideshow about a minute into a shootout. But it's so thrilling when you lay in wait and ambush someone. Most entertaining when the target can not tell where the fire is coming from so he takes cover in the wrong place, exposing himself completely.

I don't try to kill everyone I see, though. I only hunt relatively well equipped players inland. If I see someone with a rare weapon, one of the top three backpacks or a camo or a ghillie suit, I'll go after him. Otherwise, I'm quite friendly. I give random people freebies. I even went out of my way once, to find a guy with broken legs in the thick of a town to give him morphine. Also if someone spots me first and declares himself friendly, I'll also act friendly, regardless of anything else.

Oh and also - THERE ARE BICYCLES IN THE GAME NOW!

Did you actually see it? Because unless dayz_vehicles_v0.1.rar is updated (which it isn't), there isn't a bicycle entry in the mod files. But maybe it's server side, who knows. There are, however, motorbikes. A mountain variety and one "old bike".

Hah. I'd fit into your 'prey' catagory, I usually have an ALICE pack or at least a Czech pack and a half decent weapon like an AKM. And I never go anywhere near the coast, always roaming around inland. Of course it wouldn't be the same without the fear of lone stalkers or squads of killer bandits. That's the beauty of this game, there is no quest log or compass (although there are maps and real compasses and since the sun/moon cycles and starmap are real you can find North without one), you just make up your own quest/mission and see if you can accomplish it alive. Some people like to find and fix vehicles, snipe in big cities, collect high-end gear, stalk people or simply scavenge and try to survive. You can be a lone wolf, travel in small groups or join a huge squad. You can do what you want. It's a blast.

I've put way, way too many hours into this game in the last few weeks and still can't get enough. I'll have to actually try out Arma2 itself one of these days.
