So I tested this 1.7.0 version. Had a lot of lag, but I guess that's due to the shitty server I was on (SE5). It was night time, but I could see most of the time due to the moonlight, except when clouds would hide the moon. Went for the NW airfield to rendezvous with a guy. He was a fellow Croat so I knew he wouldn't shoot me. Now, something really weird happened. My buddy shot a dude and the same dude appeared at the NWA 10-15 minutes later. How in the hell was that possible? Yes, he was dead the first time; my buddy was looting his korpse. He died a second death so he was of no trouble at all.

We went for all the lootspots available, but for some weird reason, all loot was shit. Best thing I could find was an AK 74 Kobra, something I didn't need at all since I have an AKM with 6 mags. Some pistol ammo was useful, I guess, since I have a PDW which can use a bunch of different mags.
I also had a tent, barely managed to pitch it and by doing that I somehow duplicated it - twice. So now I have a tent well hidden out there, as well as two more in my backpack.

I also got shot by what I assume was a CZ 550, but I managed to live and got out of sight. Patched myself and my buddy gave me a transfusion. Went slightly north of the airfield and logged out because the server was laggy as shit.

Damn. I just realized now that playing for a couple of hours on a bugged server screwed me over big time. All of the crap I got before was wasted due to no loot spawning. And now I returned on the verge of starvation. So what gives, are servers like that made on purpose or something?

So I had an AKM with 7 mags, an M14 with 2 mags, a PDW with a bunch of mags, a couple of cooked meat, all of the utility items save for the toolbox and an entrenching tool, 5 blood bags and some other kewl stuff. Then a guy headshot me through a window with a silenced M9 as I was looting the southern barracks.

My own dumbass fault for taking so long. Should have just grabbed it all and ran like hell, but I was greedy.

I'm gonna head for my two tents and hope they haven't been looted dry. From there on I'll regroup with my buddies and hit Stary Sobor to loot an AKM and some mags.

A player commented that ARMA 2 engine sucks for Dayz and it would be much better with the Fallout 3 engine. Do you agree? DISCUSS!

Yes, you can get reckless. It costs. I made it to Day 6 last week but am unable to get past Day 0 or 1 now. I can't pin it on either bandits or zombies as they both get me. I suppose it's impatience and stupidity combined and maybe that is what makes the game, the fact that you get killed for your mistakes and it hurts.

Sometimes you have to change your goals, re-evaluate your current objectives, back off and never, ever get complacent as it will kill you.

Easier said than done. I love this game.

Isn't that the fun of this? You make up your own quests and constantly change them because the only true goal is to live.

I can show hours of stealthy, well creeped scavenging with never a shot fired. But it's boring to watch (stressful to play) Here's a strange thing, the graphics went whonky and I wanted to log out but I was in the rain and only a few metres from the barracks. It ended badly. Just one 'whoopsiedaisy'. Don't walk into zombies.

Does the ghillie suit make you less detectable to zombies as well? You walked straight into the first one.

I was finally on a roll, camo, ak and the rest, I just needed matches to be able to live off in the wilderness. I was in Vibor when the server starting lagging as shit, it eventually threw me out. The same thing happened on other ones, supposedly there is a hive update going on. Anyways, a zombie detected me, I went back inside, but apparently the shots weren't being detected on time because I had to empty half a clip into it. Then I was hit by an invisible zombie, and then almost 5 popped up around me, running at full speed. I didn't last very long.

.

I have no idea. As far as I know or care it's a jerk off suit for snipers, sort of like the ten pages of consternation for people that couldn't decide if they wanted to be a girl or a boy.

And yes, if you fast/slow crawl into a zombie, you deserve to die.

I like this one. It's from way back a couple of weeks ago when we were green horns. Sorry about my missing voice but you should get the gist of it.

So you recommend any video capture software that isn't FRAPS?

Had a zombie dream too, it was more fun than Dayz and zombie movies, can't remember much of it though.

If I have a can of beans every time someone:
1: Rage quits because they survive for 10 hours only to get shot by a player.
2: Rage over getting killed by players and declaring that they will adopt a shoot-first stance (also said by Codexers ITT).
3: Yells "The mod is in alpha!!!" in response to any comments on bugs.
4: says that asking a survivor "u friendly?" doesn't help you against pkers.
5: Rages when someone uses a mic.

I'll be rich!

I wholeheartedly recommend Bandicam.

FRAPS has always killed my system over the years when trying to record. Bandicam still causes a substantial hit on your FPS but not as bad and the files are smaller. Admitadly if you're a purest and want the absolute best quality then FRAPS can't be beat, but I don't care that much. At least Bandicam functions for me.

I use the free version of VideoPad to edit the output. It's got enough features for me, there's better free stuff out there such as virtualdub and probably others but this is super simple, quick and dirty:

As to the rest, who really cares, I'm not sure if I've ever died to a bug yet. And it *is* an alpha, so expect the worst. It is a very nice, stable and fun alpha at this particular moment though. The game isn't for everyone as I'm sure you know.

10 minutes free recording is better than FRAPS.

Not sure what you meant by the alpha comment, I'm not complaining that it is buggy, rather that telling players it is alpha is being Master Of The Obvious. Players when met with a bug, will often remark about it despite knowing it is alpha.
Those are just things people often say in game, you might be reading too much into it.

^^ edited for clarity

Yeah, I see what you mean. Discussing game changes is valid and just spouting "it's an alpha" doesn't really contribute. The base mechanics are a blast for me, and many others. The game is evolving and getting built in front of our eyes, I've probably put in over 100 hours in the last two weeks that I've been playing. I'm counting eight patches to the base game, Arrowhead from version 92767 to 93398 which are probably just engine enhancements (I never did read those patch logs) and around ten updates for the DayZ mod itself from 1.5.2.4 (I think that's when I started) to the current 1.7.0.

As rocket says, he likes to see the warm, salty tears. Or something like that.

I actually hit my first obvious bug last night, I respawned in a barn near Sosnovka with zero ammo and only 4000 blood but my inventory had a compass and a watch so I went with it. Plus it saved me a bit of jogging time.

Heh, I had an interesting bug as well. I was crawling around in a barn near solnichya and bam, broken leg and death out of nowhere. Come to think of it I might have been shot, but there was nobody in the barn.

Same thing happed to thesoup crawling around in the pitch black at the Airfield, still don't know what killed him. I was lucky during the 1.60 hotfix frenzy I was on my 6 Day Survivor streak and never had the respawn glitches. Because I never died. No doubt, there's tonnes of bugs, just glad I haven't hit anything infuriating yet.

Although the other day I was testing a new video card and when I went to exit the game I hit 'Respawn' instead of 'Abort'. There is no 'Yes/No' question. Lost a bunch of loot. Of course, that's user stupidity.

Weirdest shit happened to me a couple minutes ago.
Was skulking around Stary Sobor, and I hear somebody firing an AKM, I ask who's there on chat (it's just a checker for me, I know they're there but I ask to have a better idea of whether they're friendly or not), and somebody replies and says they are. Assured, I continue crawling through the town when the firing becomes more intense and I see a mob of zeds running to the medical outpost. Feeling like a good guy, I sneak up to try to help, but by the time I get there they're all dead and it's silent. I continue crawling towards the treeline, but I'm fired upon. I'm already only at 4000 blood and so I'm really not up for a fight, so I assume I'm being shot at from the forest by a bandit and try to crouch-run behind a truck. He fucking pegs me and I'm down for the count. At this point I'm panicking about bleeding out and losing my 4 day-old character, but have basically given up and await the bandit approaching to finish me off.

But he never comes, no more shots are fired, I even last long enough to wake up and patch myself up, though I'm now at 1500 health and passing out. I'm still worried that somebody's out there, so I stick behind the truck and wait for him to move first. Five minutes pass and I decide to try and get some better cover in one of the tents, figuring that I have to take the initiative. That's where I see it; four or five guys, all sprawled out and dead in the tent. Seemed like they had something of a Mexican Standoff that attracted the aforementioned zeds, some got shot, some got eaten, one lay in a prone firing position looking dead at where I was. Looked like this fucker was the winner of that firefight, and gambled that he could kill me before he bled out; he lost. Luckily one of them had about 7 steaks on him and I was able to bring myself up to a moderate amount of blood in no time. I helped myself to their food and ammo and replaced my empty silenced m9 with one of their M1911s and headed to the forests.

I didn't even get the option. I would pick it only because the female model has a slightly thinner frame, eg. smaller target, especially over distance. One could also impersonate a female to get freebies eg. Crispy's online romantic interest.

people really go for that in Dayz?

I stopped reading the 1.6.0 update thread because of it. All other threads had criticisms and discussion about the changes, that one reminded me of the Bio stuff we all know too much about. So yes, there are a lot of confused little boys out there. On the positive side I haven't seen a female model in game yet.

Great story, I love hearing about it and living it. I always thought of the word 'emergent' as a popular buzzword, but now I know what it means and this game has it in spades every time you login. Congrats on day 4. I made it to Day 6 once but haven't come close since. I wonder what the longest is?

Who cares? I mean that for both of those things, who cares if girls play it or not and who gives a fuck about raping anyone? If I have to, I kill them and that has only happend once. If you're into necrophillia I suppose you could teabag the corpse (crouch/standup/crouch/standup?) and LARP it. Can't see the point of adding rape into it. But who knows what will happen with this game.

Well the devs are supposedly considering adding in "adult themes", ie. rape.

Another game mechanic. Rape recovers your sanity.

Just imagine sweaty Skyways bartering on their microphones:
"I'll give you a blood transfusion, but you'll have to let me rape you afterwards!"
