Being so vitriolic towards it when you've barely completed the intro makes you look like you just want to hate it.
I think people assume I'm vitriolic is because of a number of butt hurt reactions my posts generate. I'm obviously blindly extrapolating. I'm sure the game has more to offer than scripted and confining button pressing. But based on the beginning, I think the stuff it offers is going to be just a different kind of bad.

And people I respect when it comes to Gothic, like this guy, seem to support that notion.

No one is assuming that you're vitriolic. You returned to the thread after several months just to shit on the game again even though you still hadn't played past the intro. Your posts generate butthurt posts because they are vitriolic.

I won't lie, Archolos does feature a few very un-Gothic railroady moments, but on the whole it's a great follow-up to the original games and an excellent action RPG. I would suggest playing it more to formulate a more educated opinion but at this point I imagine your pride will not allow you to enjoy the game, no matter what.

Jvegi went into the game expecting to hate it. He was posting how it was going to be shit before it was even released.

People like that get angry if they actually end up enjoying a game, so make a double effort to hate it when they go in.

Still, I hope he revisits it and enjoys it. No G1/G2 fan deserves to miss it.

Archolos is indeed quite a bit different from classic gothic. Better in quite a few ways. People who hate absolutely anything different from the way it was two decades ago will likely find a lot of fault with it, and while I believe their opinions are stupid I concede that they are at least consistent and grounded in reality.

surprising how high the global completion % for achievements is
https://steamcommunity.com/stats/1467450/achievements/

if we assume the top achievement means the people who started the game and didn't immediately quit, then the game has an incredibly high % of people making it to at least the later chapters
even if we use the full 100%, it's higher than most other titles on steam

44.5% doing the intro sequence, 33.6% making it all the way to owning a house(I haven't even gotten to that yet and I'm nearing 70 hours)

...But I hate the fake bioware-tier choices I keep seeing more of the further I get.
"X or Y?"
Y.
"Y is bad. You should do X."
No, I want to do Y.
"No, Really you must do X."
Fine, X it is.

ohhh... I thought nothing of it at the time but
I saw Ivy talking to the butcher when I ran past, and now it makes sense because it was molerat blood and she was following up her lead and comparing it to animal blood. What a nice touch!
I thought it was just some ambient dialogue at the time because neither had any unique dialogue.

Also, I don't think anyone at PB has even acknowledged Archolos? Pretty crazy considering it has won mod of the year on a few places and had articles written about it.
can't imagine why

I'm having some technical difficulties, wondering if anyone knows a fix.

The game hangs indefinitely upon automatically entering dialogue after a cutscene during a quest.

It happens during "Heartbreaker", after the cutscene where you play the lute to Lutz and Martha, Karin initiates dialogue with Marvin and my problem occurs.

Incidentally, does anyone know how to skip these in-game cutscenes? I don't feel like watching it over and over again while I figure out what the problem is.

EDIT: Problem solved. Wait for effects of speed potions to wear off before entering cutscenes, men.

Not much of a fix if you don't have a save to do it, but I forgot to go back and tell Karin where the date would be at after she taught Marvin how to play the lute so she didn't show up.

I have it installed now, thanks to you assholes. It's clogging my hard drive up, taking those precious gbs away.

Do I have to talk to all those dumb characters on the fucking boat? I assume I meet them all later, so does ignoring them entirely have any negative repercussions? I really don't feel like talking to them. "Hi, I'm Marvin, I'm a little bitch, how are you?" x15. Good design, PB sucks...

Nah that wasn't it, I did all that correctly. She was there.

I figured it out; I was under the effects of a speed potion. That seemed to bug out the cutscene/dialogue. I waited for the potion to wear off then the problem was fixed.

Holy shit dude. You reinstalled the game to try it again and somehow you're still here whinging about the same first 15 minutes of gameplay that you were before. Fucking move on.

Kudos on being willing to change your mind. If I remember right, very little you do actually ON the boat matters - maybe a minor followup and reward later in the game for one or two of the errands you can do on the boat. Letting the idiot on the deck die gets you his sword immediately, if you speak up and save his life you find him much later and can spar with him for a bit of bonus LP. Might want to snag the unlock scroll. Once you land on the beach your choices start to affect people living or dying, and the overall fate of the other refugees who come to archolos with you becomes a pretty big ongoing plot thread that won't finish until the end of the game.

You don't have to, but if you finish all their side quests and unlock the chest in the hold you'll get some very early starter armour and some useful items.

Some of them will also follow up on your help later when you're in the village.

Kurwa.

Oh, I have a cloud save from the beach. Good thing I gave gog money 7 months ago so I could play this mod conveniently. And people say I'm blinded by my hate, not giving the game a chance.

Ok, it's loading. I'm in a forest, can't see anything but the name tags of two npcs in front of me. Let's try to talk to them, can't go anywhere. I take one step and get teleported to the beach. I want to rage-quit. I give the game a chance and check my inventory, looking for a torch or a light spell. It's not there. I quit the game and write an angry post.

I'll boost the gamma setting ups. Later.

A harrowing tale of one man's struggle against a game's tutorial sequence...
