Sadly, the reaction of npcs after getting beat is lacking compared to G2. They don't get mad, they won't refuse to talk to you, they don't recoil if you threaten them with a weapon, they won't run away. Seems like they all get a memory wipe so at most you'll get something like "oh, my head, kurwa...". It's easy to avoid getting reported for crimes too, so you can just run around and knock people up with almost no consequences. I got lots of cash and xp that way.

I met the guard from Gothic 1, Nek was his name. He lost his amulet and almost got eaten alive by molerats. He refused to go anywhere without his amulet, so i found it for him. Then i beat him up, took his precious amulet for myself. He reacted like nothing happened :(

Though i understand the sheer scale of Archolos and the devs being a mod team working for free was probably the reason why they toned down the amount of details and npc reactions.

You got away with beating up nek because you were in the middle of nowhere. Townspeople are under the protection of the guard and the crime system is identical to gothic 2's. It would be a neat little touch if Nek reacted to you taking his amulet, but that's getting into pipe dream territory in terms of reactivity imo.

Yeah, then i went to Silbach, punched the majority of npcs there and got fined 50 gold and i haven't even paid it yet. I've done it in pretty much every settlement i come across since then and managed to avoid getting reported. Except the city itself because i got there illegally by climbing to get some shit and leave.

When you have at least leather armor, the 50 damage sword and level 10 a bunch of village dwellers zerg rushing you is nothing. If that even happens, because you can just lure them one by one. A couple more of them joining is just worst case scenario, and if you already disarmed them before they are neutered. Plus AI in Gothic games were always so retarded that they would stuck in anything. I fought 5 people at once at Silbachs warehouse and they all stuck in something, be that crates, walls... anything lmao.

Oh nice it seems that my reputation goes up, farmers started to say friendly "O hi Marvin" after i did all quest from village, i missed Jills quest earlier. After i learned max 1h swordskills from that trainer at village he started to respect me too, it seems that this "Whats new" dialogue has its uses.

Moreover, some NPCs have several different responses if you ask them multiple times. It gives a lot of character to the world instead of every NPC just being a quest dispensing machine.

Some questions:

Did anyone NOT have the opportunity to get a city permit from the village elder? I'm just wondering why this quest has so many options when helping the elder is so incredibly easy. I'll go try around with some other options anyway for some extra EXP (I heard there's a way via the woodcutter camp).

I thought I found a cool solution to the "tidying up" quest: I found the real reason behind the death of Otho's sheep.. I told him about it and he thanked me and gave me a reward, but the quest didn't finish. Does that mean I still need to smear the sheep shit on something (two options here)?

Really enjoying the game btw. The fact that money is so tight makes it extremely engaging. You just know a game is good when you're already thinking about what build you want to go for your second character. Doing 2H strength with blacksmithing and some hunting skills atm. I thought that a "spellthief" character with pickpocketing and magic could make an amazing second playthrough.

Important economic info that isn't told to you at the start of the game:

When you get to archolos in chapter 2, you can apprentice with one of five masters, and they all buy something from you at a higher price than anyone else, sometimes even if they ALREADY bought stuff from you for a middling price

Bow lady buys bows and animal skins at a higher price (so if you plan to apprentice with her, do not sell her anything until you do!)

Locksmith buys all thief-y loot (gold plates, chalices, jewelry, etc) and chopped wood

Blacksmith buys crafted weapons and mined ores

Alchemist buys potions (whether you found them or crafted them)

Butcher buys meat

Do all of them still buy stuff from you even if you don't become their apprentice? Will the locksmith guy buy luxury items from me if I don't buddy up with him? And where do I even find him?

Also, is skill progression locked behind apprenticeship? For example, will you be able to become master alchemist if don't become alchemist's apprentice?

The only one who will buy stuff from you if you aren't their apprentice is the bowyer, and then only skins. She pays her apprentices double what she pays people off the street.

Locksmith guy is in the craft distrinct

You can definitely master alchemy and pickpocketing without being anyone's apprentice. No idea about smithing or bowcraft.

What is the limit of goods you can sell to early buyers in village?

Check the bulletin board and grab the job posting s there. Special wholesale goods deals are posted on them. You have to read the notices in your inventory, and they will tell you how many of each you can sell.

I ended up getting the Elder's pass, doing Greta's (the redhead merchant) quest and sneaking through the sewers which netted me a lot of XP.

God I love this mod, nay: game! To call it a mod would be a rather impertinent understating. It gives me exactly the same vibes the first two Gothics did. Exploration is rewarding, quests are diverse and clever, the world building is top-notch... almost perfect. Almost: The autist in me mourns the fact that the "river" has no current like in Gothic 1 (where it took you with it if you jumped in) and that there is no sound of flowing water nor animation fitting to a river.

edit: Oh yeah, the brother is a pain in the neck. Don't know if that's intended, but he seems like an utter idiot. Such a jolly good idea to get totally drunk on a bridge near tons of hungry lurkers!

This game - because it's very much so a true game at this point to me, and not a mod - continues to impress 20+ hours in. Going through the process of getting recommendations to become a citizen of Archolos, I hit the quest to teach a fledgling paladin a lesson in overzealousness.

There was the option to simply shell out 100 gold to buy an artifact to dupe him, but I chose the option of tricking him more thoroughly with a ritual by an idol of Innos outside the east gate of the city. Upon arriving at the appointed spot at midnight with this Paladin, we were met by four brigands that were instructed to kill him. I was given the option to leave and let him die, or stay and defend his life. I stood with him, killed all the brigands, and received a thorough scolding from his a result. Meeting back up with the fire mage that gave me the quest, he congratulated me in turning the young paladin from his foolish ways. I went to check up on the paladin and he thanked me for it all. Even offered to train me in his superior swordsmanship skills.
I got my final recommendation for citizenship, and felt good in the process. This is good quest design. One of the many reasons why this game is most definitely my GOTY. I'm just continuously surprised at the joy that Chonicles of Myrtana is giving me. Bless everyone that has been involved with this project. I wish I could give them some money, but maybe someday if they ever attempt a true commercial project.

EDIT: On top of that, I was thinking about how superbly this serves not only a supplementary piece to the world of Gothic, but also just a great prequel. It fleshes out a lot of the lore in a great way, but without it being out of place or lore-dumpy. The respect it shows to the source in its detail is fantastic, without being in your face or overbearing. It enhances the original games, and gets me thinking more deeply about them regularly.
