Borderlands: 1,000,000 guns, 3 enemies.

The loot system is pretty well done though. Not Diablo, but pretty damn close for a shooter. Coop looks promising.

The effect of levels is ridiculous though. I come up to a level 12 enemy at level 10. He takes me down in about 3 shots. I come back at level 12, he stands at 30 feet spraying at me full auto and 3/4ths of the shots miss, while the others take off about 1/10th of my health. My own damage to them follows a similar trend. He took about 30 sniper rifle shots, most to the head, and still stayed standing when I was level 10.

Yeah, I noticed that playing online tonight with a friend -- it's even more magnified in co-op to the point where you literally won't put a dent in something two+ levels higher than you. I guess a bright side of that is it forces you to do a little bit more exploring/questing before you tackle major quests/bosses.

I'll stress again to combat some of the earlier criticism, the game is mediocre at best if you only play single player -- it's designed for co-op and that's where 90% of the fun lies.

Makes it sound even more like a fucking MMO, co-op or no. Ugh.

So anyone want to coop the game?

How far in are you? The way the enemies 'scale' against your level makes more than a few levels' difference take all the fun out of co-opping - either the higher level shreds everything or you go to a higher zone and then the lower level gets his ass handed to him all the time.

Public multiplayer is horribly lacking. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no way to control who enters your game, and once they are in there is no way to kick them. So my level 15 character starts a game. About 5 mins in, 2 people at level 5 and 8 join. So the game instantly becomes 3x harder on me since there are 3x as many people. Both of them die as soon as something looks at them (homing bullets of death or something), leaving me to revive and fight super powerful enemies while they leech experience.

That said, once I started a game that specifically said "no underleveled", those kind of people weren't joining, but there is nothing preventing them from doing it.

I wanted to try out a different character class. My previous one was the soldier, so I took the stealth girl, expecting stealth play. Nope, all that changes is you have a shitty activatable skill (which is pretty much limited to oh shit I'm about to die run away), and instead of passives for +damage with weapons, you have passives for +elemental damage with weapons. Yippie.

The level effect seems to be a less pronounced as you go up in levels. At level 23 level 19s can still pose a threat if you are stupid, and I can comfortably assault large groups of level 26s if I'm careful.

Also, I now have a scoped pistol with a shotgun-like attack. Highly accuracte mid range sniping with a shotgun? Badass.

I'm giving it a go and I must say it's really fucking boring. I can't understand why so many want to marry this game.
Because Gamespot said it's the best gaem evar this week and if you think otherwise you just have unrealistic standards and don't respect lotsa people waiting for this gaem!!

So far it's been like an outdoors Hellgate: London with easymode Halo-shield and MMORPG-quests. And the AI is dumb as shit. So it's too easy and it feels like a singleplayer MMOG. Not a hit in my book.

Oh lol look that prick MetalCraze doesn't know what he's talking about, you can't criticize the game until you played it!

Do you have to play co-op to get any enjoyment out of it?
Like with every crappy game it will help yes - but you must send each other messages about how the game ownz every 5 minutes like everyone does in coop in boring games. Otherwise the game won't seem fun.

Borderlands feels exactly like an MMORPG being played on a dead server. Seriously, all that's missing are the groups of characters dancing/bunny hopping all over the starter town, gathering around questgivers, and fighting over mob boss respawns.

Moo?
I remember back when the game was first announced, the psychic girl (aside from being pale white and looking more like the genetic freak she actually is) had an arsenal of mind abilities, that basically made her a mage with gun support as an afterthought.

I see that got tossed right out the window, along with most of the others parts of the game that actually sounded interesting.

Well, I look at it this way: If the game becomes a big enough cash-cow for Gearbox you might see additional support above and beyond the DLC(s). The game is fairly skeletal and open to a lot of alteration and tweaking of the characters, abilities, etc. Not saying it's a dead lock to happen but at least it's a possibility.

Yeah guys - just buy more copies of this dull piece of shit and maybe, just maybe developers will see the light and stop being such lazy cash-whores and make a game worth playing for more than a hour because as we all know when crap sells as it is - it leads to more good games.

3/10 Needs some work. Honestly if I were you I'd just stick with the standard: 'Banal. Shit Boring.' meme.

8/10, Metro doesn't know shit.

I hope you can see the problem in both

1) spending money on a 'skeletal game' in the hope that more DLC for it is released and then purchasing that DLC to fill out that skeletal game

and

2) spending money on a dull game that will cause developers to want to make more dull games

If you can't just tell me so and I'll spell it out even more clearly for you.

You're a fucking tard metro. For all of skyway's "banal, shit, boring", he made a good point. The thought that you support a shit game so the developers may make it better in the future is completely fucking retarded.

You don't need to cater to a narrow community to make a good and fun shooter.

I also like lots of older console platformers. You can do better than bringing PoP into a shooter discussion.

The game is alright. There are some huge balancing issues with some classes.

Your right though, the game gets HUGELY boring. I mean, it picks up at around level 30, but it pretty much is a 4 player mmoARGHH
