Day 76, heralds bring news of war, and noble armies are fighting everywhere.. but nothing has changed for the Manic Jesters. They only wish they could ever get any noble favour above neutral, and figure out how to get in on the action...

The ambition to "earn a noble house's attention (by being 'professional rank renown')" is the ticket to get contracts from them. It's usually one of the earlier ones you can get after completing the first or second ambition.

Yeah. I've got my Bolshevik Party ironman campaign to day 60 or so, and it's turned into a gargantuan boring drag.

Although I've got a hell of a lot more than 15-20 hours out of it. I really dig the early and early mid-game in Ironman; the struggle to stay alive and afloat is real and the combat is tense and fun.

Could the boring drag be fixed somehow?

I can't play on vet after expert.

Same place.

Could the boring drag be fixed somehow?
Fasten pace.
>battles more rewarding - better pay, better cash loot
>less battles but more enemies, more risky battles and more effect on global map
>cheap and high level replacements available
>fast leveling
>overall reduce grind and add ability to recover from close defeat or defeat
Make it kind of FTL fast adventure so you can go fast, have fun and end it then start another.
Adding unlock able starting options, like different maps, main quests crises, starting companies etc also would add to fun.

Sure it could, in several ways. The quick fix would be just to tighten up the mid- to late-game pace with faster progression and a quicker crisis, and perhaps reward rebalancing to push you to take on more dangerous quests (especially on Ironman). Better fixes would be to have more quest variety, with for example strings of missions that lead from one to another. Deeper faction mechanics. More unique loot or other powerups. Missions that let you recruit uniquely powerful heroes. More variety in general. That would be more work of course.

As it is, after the early game this feels like something of a combat engine in search of, well, a game, really.

Because essentially that its exactly that.
Combat engine and the 'game' is build around it.
They scrapped simulation from global map, dunno why.
Most mechanics outside combats only affect player company(supplies, repairs, healing, injuries, mood etc).
Global map is just stage for battles and lack character.

*Still its decent game and there is nothing else on the market so worth the price but ... it could be much better.

Did that a while ago and have been doing noble contracts. I suppose now they'll start giving me ocntracts to take out the other houses? Well, I'll see. And we'll see how I feel about this mid-late game now I'm finally seeing it.

The worst thing is that there is no way to mod it.
At all.
As one of devs mention somewhere that its trivial to add new items etc and looking at game files it looks that way. If it was possible to edit game files there would be some content coming even if devs do nothing and thus it would be keeping community alive.
Some edits, balances, conversions and other shit. Heck maybe some guys could even reuse some old assets from old versions.
Now unless devs decide to release something there would be nothing to talk about. This game gonna be forgotten soon and until there will be BB2 or some major expansion/DLC there is nothing you can do about.

I imagine you're talking about MoO 1 because in MoO2 sometimes I wanted to kill myself due to the length of battles. Which were also not so involved since you didnt care about each spaceship so much as how you care about each bro
Of course I'm talking about moo 1, Thats why i didn't say moo2. The original and the unique. In fact to me moo2 is unplayable exactly because of that the amount of micromanagment the game requires specially in the lategame, and specially in battles is frustrating and obnoxious. Up to this day i still do a run of moo1 every 1 or 2 months, where i stopped playing mmo2, around 1997

Yup, after slogging through an undead invasion (that felt more like a resource management game more than anything else; who has the better armored chars basically) I decided to do a Veteran Iron Man run and to my surprise it is going surprisingly well. I also was kind of wondering about the endgame crisis but I got it on day 120 on the band so now I am beign picky and looking for the best recruits and juicest contracts knowing that all that extra attention to detail will be worth it since I wont have my team rout out on the first geist atrack
Also I noticed some weird stuff maybe it was a bug or it was a hint but in some random battles the enemies would rise up as zombies after beign killed... that was a pretty good hint about the upcoming undead invasion

Man, "get a named weapon+armor+shield+helm" has to be the most obnoxious ambition ever... I found 4 suits of armor, 3 shields, and 6+ weapons before I finally saw a (shitty 202) helm for sale in some rando fort. The smart thing to do would've been to just cancel the ambition, but :honourblade:

So, at the end of the day, Battle brothers scale to your level, sad. That's why my expert ironman run was so soft, i was canceling contracts left and right losing renown.
So the best strategy to survive, is to make sure to gain as little renown as possible, cancel a lot of contracts, etc.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
To survive in order to do what? Come on guys we keep getting in the same weird arguments. The game is all about combat. Sure you can delay harder combat but in the end that's all there is. So basically you just decide when to have harder combat.
If there was something bigger in the end I would agree, some sort of goal. But there isn't.
So yeah, if you want you can survive 500 days by having 1 bro, fleeing in case you get in combat and trade goods between settlements. Proper faggot merchant :P

To survive to end the game, according to the dev blog, the game is designed so the game soft ends after you end the first final crisis. So surviving until the first final crisis ends.

Ending one of the crises is a ‘soft end’ to the game – you’ve basically won and will be asked if you want to retire from the company at this point
http://battlebrothersgame.com/dev-blog-92-late-game-crises/
I know. It still doesn't change anything since apparently the end game will not happen unless you climb in renown. So basically you just delay the same things you can do faster. Just maybe with better equipment and bros? Which still in end game battles you would have
