I thought they raised the chance for unique items during the final beta.

I'm on day 220 now - the 2nd crisis, greenskins, has just started - and I never found a unique at a location or saw one in the hands of a bandit leader or hedgeknight. I don't even think there were more than a dozen for sale - weaponsmith, armorer and fletcher combined - and travelling from shop to shop is basically all I'm doing atm.

What is the state of the town itself? I've only gotten uniques in towns that are well stocked. If they have been raided/sieged and barely have anything for sale, it seems that the chance for unique is minuscule.

I've found 2 items in one place when my ambition was to gather few uniques. Earlier I've found sword and bought armour and helmet. It's my ~150 Day.

It proves the steamspy guy right, who wrote that a game has only one launch on Steam and for an EA game, it's entering EA. Exiting EA doesn't give a huge sales bump to the average EA title.

Is there a way to safely set up camp at a civilized location? I keep getting jumped by the same group of bandit poachers when trying to camp on top of a village. Cocksuckers.

I usually see a lot of them being sold in keeps etc. Finding in enemy camps is a bit more rare, but tavern rumors help. I guess it's just bad luck

Yeah, tavern locations didn't have uniques either yet. I've played over 500 hours in 0.7 and 0.9, never had so few uniques.

'Well supplied' didn't help either, but maybe I'll try following caravans around.

Cheers

Or use overwhelm on enemies as dangerous as a warlord. Even one archer can disable an enemy if you have some defenses on your guys. The 5% chance to hit is still there - but from my experience warlords that have been overwhelmed tend to: move then use their special ability instead of attacking.

Hehe to say Quick Hands might be my favorite; I start battle with my archers using polearms, I pass on their first chance and the enemies rush in out in the open and then I switch them to bows and crossbows that very round and lay the arrows into the mob of enemies or target their marksman
I dont find the game grindy at all and it makes me really happy to slowly build my band by getting better gear and even getting the hang of breaking in rookies (let them stay on the back row the first couple of levels) and dumping crippled bros when they are too much of a hassle.
That way I have a rooster of 6 long range specialists (who have polearms and axes too) 6 spearmen 2 sargents 4 melee chars with hammers and swords which I can rotate almost constantly to have say 3 level 7 spearmen and one rookie to get the hand of it while keeping a level 4 reserve on the wings when one of the spearmen has taken an injury
All in all I am obsessed big time with this game...
Still waiting for GOG so I can actually pay for it

Did you had Stellbrow?
No, I thought it was shit at least until now lol. I figure nine lives is still better, it's more or less the same function but nine lives lets you take one more hit for sure, while with steel brow you might still bite it depending on the situation.

You die, you learn. Like Serus said, no more getting close to warlords without 4 overwhelm stacks on him. And nine lives on everybody :D.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
So this caravan I was escorting went off road and attacked a brigand stronghold in the wild.

yeah I know it's a flaw of the map generation (there are no roads between southern and northern part of the map) and I was attacked by the roaming raider group and the rest joined in but it really looked like the caravan was just charging full speed into that battle.

Retreated with no loses, I'm at day 20 and doing fairly well. A raider got to one of my guys at one point but I got lucky and disengaged.

So everybody is decked out in chainmail or better and have 2nd tier weapons where I can mostly take care of two skull contracts with relatively ease. So should I start buying better equipment pr scavenge what I get from combat?

You can't get anything better than 130 Armor from brigands unless you start hunting their leaders.

how the hell do you iron man this game. Did noble end game scenario my company is doing great got 30k gold reserve then war starts. On the way back to war camp from fighting a supply caravan run into one of those first companies with 18 guys. I win but lose 3 important guys I decided to say fuck it and not save. Hire 2 recruite and put 1 in reserve to replace them but I'm already dead. Next fight 24 vs 24 most of my company is dead except for a elite few. I'm not iron man but shit if I was the game would be boring asf constantly retreating from fights and weasling my way around the map for favorable fights and contracts. I feel like iron man mode is not meant for this game like how it is for games like xcom.

Iron man is not about winning every time; quite the opposite. The joy is in the journey. Getting to late game in Iron man is a real accomplishment. Anyone can save scum their way to victory.

Games with solid enough mechanics and systems are a joy regardless of metagaming worries. Half the fun is starting anew because death has real consequence and victories and progress that that much more to be cherished. Losing a core Bro is a real loss and you feel it. It's one of the reasons I continue to play Angband and variant rogue-likes 2-3 dacades later... moment to moment play is fun, systemic depth keeps it so.

Give it a try, you may find it to your liking.

I think the games are about equally difficulty in ironman. BB and X-Com (old) give you a buffer zone with a larger roster. If you lose every single important person in a battle, it's a managerial error more than anything.

Seeking advice from the experts: How much armor should back row polearms and archers have? I know overwhelm requires good initiative to work. But I don't want them to get oneshot by lucky marksmen or ganked by necrosavants.
On dedicated polearm users as much as you can get, they don't need a lot of fatigue and only get one attack so overwhelm is not great on them. Archers and archer/polearm hybrids are trickier, for much of the game I run with the brigand gambeson and aketon cap to maximize dodge, the highest I usually go later is rusty mail shirt (or direwolf armor if you can spare one) and mail coif.
