Nothing says "I think our players are retarded" like designing a dungeon with blinking floor symbols that point the way to proceed, like taxi lights on an airfield runway.
They're not wrong about their fans though, are they?

Never thought I'd see the day when bunny hopping would be a relevant strategy in a turn- and party-based RPG, yet here we are.

lol check out the Ars Technica preview: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020...access-mediocre-rpg-amazing-rendering-engine/

Somebody felt like being a contrarian today!
The reviewer starts out by gloating about how he's played D&D for 40 years yet halfway through the review he suddenly considers it a downside that the game requires you to roll dice for stat checks before making a very big deal about how he doesn't actually want to kill - let alone fight - enemies with hostile intentions towards you. Because of this he fells compelled to savescum in order to continuously reroll the CHA check until it lets him avoid combat.

Tell me again, why am I supposed to take this guy seriously?
I just reached this part myself and it turns the entire ordeal more or less can be skipped by just killing the mindflayer on sight instead of walking up to the fishermen, initiating dialogue with them and asking why they're freeing it.
Sure, there's no unique dialogue or anything for doing it but it achieves your goal of slaying the illithid and freeing the enthralled fishermen who then promptly run off. Did this guy even try actually playing the game or does fighting mindflayer also conflict with his "combat is evil :)" mentality?

It's odd that they didn't let players play in third person with wasd keys, since I discovered you can actually control your character directly holding down both mouse buttons, but it's pretty clunky. I mean, the actual third person angle work well enough.

What is the angle actually? Can you go full "isometric"? The way Swen played it with the camera following the character a bit distanced from his back was ...not ideal.

Pro-Tip Corporation.
There is tactical mode. It's not isometric. Bird view, well more like drone view...well looks like correct term is just top view. Flat.

Uninstalled after 7 hours of play. Did not encounter any game breaking bugs but I really did not enjoy playing it any longer. Limiting party size to 4 and everything else just feels too much DOS (I enjoyed DOS1 though did not really care for DOS2).

But in third person I can't look up or down, since it doesn't allow mouse look.

DOS2 had that to, shortcut was "O" or something, which is not surprising considering this is DOS 2.5

Damn cool of them to add in real-time combat like this. I just go through the harder fights in turn-based and easy ones in RTWP. Happy that the RTWPers can shut up now.

First impressions from when I played earlier:

Turn-based Dragon Age: Origins, but with (a fairly decent) D&D implementation.

The story is better than D:OS. The cinematics are decent.

Of course, the evidence of Decline is there. No alignment choice at the beginning, fairly simple start.

Default option for humans is a negro, as usual. I know there's other woke stuff later on, but this is about as woke as I've seen so far.

All in all, not bad so far. Not Baldur's Gate exactly, but not terrible. Probably going to be worth it in the end as a typical semi-AAA RPG. Probably.

Also, while the game managed to make me dislike most of my companions (on purpose from what I can tell), I didn't hate most of them badly enough to kill them. Mostly. I killed the wizard lol. (Hopefully the game won't force him back to life later. Signs that may happen already.)

I'll buy it... for a dollar.

Retarded drivel
Why you're angry? Are you off the meds or something? Do you not recognize the quote from one of the best movies from 80's-90's? Your basement lacks gigabit net connection? Or you're working tomorrow in a wagie cagie and thus cannot play BG3? Tough luck. I'm playing it right now by low low price of 00.00$

Anyhow, I'll probably gonna but it later on. But it's not worth it right now to pay and test. They should've delay it for a month. Hardy worth the prcie at the moment.

I'm not mad, I just thought my comment was funny. Its just smack talk, lighten up

Sounds about right and could have been worse.

Sounds like it might end up... Good for what it is™

How is the writing overall? Have Larian managed to avoid their usual over the top light-hearted style?

I don't get much D:OS vibe from this. D:OS was all about gimmicky spells and environmental effects.

Shoot barrel, light fire, rinse, repeat.

Wow, so leveling up was picking one thing and then accept. Really exciting...
It's dnd you know. Still it would be nice to have preview like in pfk and poe.

Man, coming from Pathfinder this is a total decline. Leveling is damn fun and exciting in that game. Is this how DnD 5 is?

Yep, 5e has very limited/straightforward options for character development. Part of the appeal to the more mainstream player base.

Oh, listen up phaggotz, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.

We appeased the "woke" subhumans by letting people choose any type of voice they want, so a dude can have a female voice. This way they're happy and it didn't cost us any extra work, win-win.
