I think the way this was done in DOS2 was by opening four game clients and starting a multiplayer game with yourself. Maybe try that?

Fiddling with multiplayer seems to be the only reasonable choice. IF the COOP savefile is accesable in SP, like in DOS that is.

It's 5E D&D, that's a very distinctive precision that kills any hype I have.
5E is the best edition since AD&D you weirdo.
3rd edition happened, eh.
I never understood why 3e/3.5e is so popular. Heavily dumbed down and streamlined compared to AD&D.

You answered your own question. 3.5 was popular to a lesser degree for the same reason 5e is popular. Streamlined and dumbed down. So more people can play. I say that as someone who was dragged up with AD&D 2e. I liked 3.5. Most of my games for the better part of two decades were 3.5 or Pathfinder. 5e went too far though. Which is why DnD right now is infested with drama kids who have no intent of actually playing DnD. I like 5e as a starting point to introduce PnP rules to someone before going on to something better like Traveller or AD&D. But the kids are doing improv and pretending to play DnD because Matt Mercer told them they "can play DnD how they want. Different GMs do different games" instead of disclosing that his dumb reality television show has as much to do with DnD as Game of Thrones did with medieval society.

I would've been happy if 5e was a "basic DnD" similar to 2e Basic. And then you had AD&D 5E for neckbeards like me who want to actually play the game. The rules being simple but existent enough to scare off the zoomers who have no interest in "nerd" things anyway. 5E does work okay but it has the opposite problem to what 3.5 had. In 3.5 you became super OP after around level 10 whereas in 5E the game just kind of peters out after level 10. And you might as well start new characters.

Is anyone else giddy with excitement for this to fail hard like all the other nostalgia driven cash grabs before?

It has COOP and 5E, normies and scrublors will likely love it, we already have some fags like that in this very thread. I loath the game but it'll likely do super well, that's the point of the trashy dev choice and the sellout use of the good BG name.

Baldur's gate 3 will expose what BG 1 and 2 really were; mediocre rpg's based on a shit convoluted system hyped up by neckbeards who are blinded by their nostalgia.

Pepper ur anguses for a shitstorm of ownage this coming year and I will enjoy your tears when this 10/10 rpg releases.

Btw even in its alpha state riddled with bugs, it's already better than the old BG trash.

This is ... very very Early Access. I already had a game crashing bug, as ending the tutorial made me stuck in a non happening conversation on the beach. Couldn't save, couldn't do actions, but could walk around as the game thought I was talking to someone.
Not suprised some publications slash in, going in expecting a feature complete build released early for publicity, the same way Ubisoft would do it. This is an actual beta, an alpha even going back by industry definitons. It is decidedly not feature complete.

Does someone know how to toggle the combat log on? Couldn't find it.

I am quite happy with the character creator, in which I spent most my time in.
They went with background + trained skills, which can be quite the noobtrap. Most DMs just do custom background.
Drow has all disadvantages removed, for the better. They are still worse than all other Elves, but it's less egregious now.

With 12 classes and multiclassing this will be insanely satisfying, I will probably have a dozen chars as soon as that is implemented.
Happy with the Githyanki they added, 5e is lacking a STR/INT race for old school Gishes.

This is how most D&D tabletop becomes. Don't listen to Matthew Mercer and his lies. Critical Role is just a glorified voice actor self-advertisement.

One of their older dev posts said you'd have to commit to your choice of [origin] party members after act 1.
I mean obviously DOS3 will do everything like DOS2 and not BG2.
At first I was extremely dissatisfied with how they'd apparently force you to use the same party from act 1 and onwards, mostly because it implied there wouldn't be new companions in the later acts and that everyone (outside of mercs/hirelings) would conveniently be placed at the start of the game.
After giving it some thought I decided it's mostly going to depend on how it's handled in the game and that I will have to wait and see that. If they truly recycle DOS2's way of doing it by just killing everyone you didn't recruit, then it's definitely going to feel cheap as hell.

Really? I found it feature lacking. No previews. No info on available sub classes. Just 6 classes (ok it's alpha folks) but most of those are occupied with companions. There are no good tool tips about spells. There is literally nothing to do in chargen except create waifu.

Well, you can create drow cleric of loth and literally ask for attention with [Drow] dialog otherwise people will ignore it. I did not get far into the game wanted to test different races reaction but eh.

Hmmh, didn't think of that since I know 5e by heart. Tell me the name of the spell and I can tell you what it does, I DMed a lot of that system over the years.
Now that you say it the creator has to be awfull for newcomers to the series. I looked at a spell tool tip and it was quite hard to read, but I only wanted to know if they changed anything or not.

I guess I am happy that it allows me to make proper 5e characters.

Edit jjust got the confirmation from an editor that there is a press embargo until the EA launch.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2020/10/06/baldurs-gate-3-enters-early-access-today-and-on-mac-too/

Baldur’s Gate 3 is due out in early access today at 6pm BST. It’ll be available on Steam, GOG, and okay sure Stadia too. I’m sure we’ll get someone to put on their robe and wizard hat to tell us all about it soon.

Busy evening ahead!

This robe and wizard hat joke is in every article about the release so far. Is it part of the press kit or something?
