I remember seeing when this was announced around a year ago, I'd completely forgotten about it until now, man I am so pumped for it. I played the shit out of AoW2 and AoW2:SM, and I plan to do the same with AoW3

Also, they released a new video a few hours ago:

Draconian Arch Druid and some gameplay on a random map

I'm glad to see so many options for the random map, but I do have a few issues with this vid:

1) It looks like the AI does the exact same fucking thing it did in the previous games: it just gathers stacks of units around its capital. It looks like it is still omniscient and knows exactly when a player moves an army close to their city. Bummer.

2) I don't understand how you can maintain a good alignment when being evil is clearly the way to go: more xp for creatures when they fight battles, more resources, more towns, more everything. I don't really know how the alignment system works in this game but sure as hell doesn't look balanced to me. Master of Mana also had a similar system but in that game the more evil deeds players did, the faster the armageddon counter rose, which had some very nasty repercussions, like that nasty blighted terrain that spread on the map.

Other than that the game looks as fun as ever. I'm still butthurt about the elimination of flying units, attack values, and 8 unit stacks, though. Oh well, we'll see.

I don't think we can be making calls about alignment balance or enemy AI based on a cursory vid like that.

The game does look quite good, though, just aesthetically speaking. Certainly a lot of unit variety on hand which is something I very much prefer if a game is going the fantasy route.

Anyway is the AI gonna be as shitty as AOW:SM?

Well I'm currently one of best AI developers and programers who is specialized on strong AI and games. I'm completelly willing to join a project with strategy games or RPGs as a secondary developer for a sallary as low as 696.416 $/mo + additional welfare taxes. I'm currently unemployed. Does it answer your question?

That's sad if it's true.

IMO AoW:SM would have been a virtually flawless game if it had better AI. The AI is the one thing that really need to improve if AoW 3 is following the same formula as the previous AoW games.

When that guy said he's gonna customize Reskar a little bit, I thought I was about to see a selection of skills/abilities, magic sphereres etc. and all I got to witness was him picking a hat and a pair of slightly different looking horns. Fuck me, I'm so naive.

If you look on the right hand side before he gets to the cosmetic page, you can see there are specialisations that can be chosen, but I assume the basic template for skills, abilities and magic spheres comes from the class. However, there was a tab called "Custom" next to the "Library" on the left side when he was choosing the character, so it leaves me with hope that you'll have the option of complete customisation if you want it.

Prerelease DLC? Fewer factions? Streamlined combat?

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment: Rome II, X:Rebirth, Sword of the Stars II, Elemental War of Magic ... If they screw this up I will hunt them down. Hunt them down like dogs.

The only hope is that it's like the Paradox CK2 strategy, where most of the DLC are really well done mini-expansions that you can get for $1 on Steam after a few months.

considering its not even a kickstarter project the communication of the AoW3 developers with their community is nothing short of stellar: lots of different devs giving insights into the game, all the journal articles, tons of gameplay videos etc. etc.

I m not even registered there but following the game since its announcement has been a joy.

....whether one ends up liking the final game or not its great to be able to follow a game in development that closely - although i guess the disappointment will be bigger if it ends up crap - I really hope the game is as good as it looks and the gameplay reads … and that if thats the case they get good sales for further expansions (or even well done DLCs).

Ever since 2, AoW has sort of relegated itself more to MP than SP, making AI mostly unimportant. I don't see AoW 3 changing that whatsoever--once, that would have depressed the fuck out of me, but these days I have enough friends + there are enough other singleplayer games that I don't mind so much.
