A problem with RPGs: RPG developers are not well-read in myth and fantasy/sci-fi literature

Oh, I absolutely don't argue that your program is "wrong". It's right in the sense that it displays exactly what you want to display. I also don't argue for the sake of arguing (because then I wouldn't bother). It's more about my indignation at what you take into account and then going "ha, as I expected",

So basically you're mad that his simulation delivered results that don't support your view and think the model needs to be revised until it supports what you "knew" from the outset.

You could've saved a lot of wear on your keyboard if you would've just said that.
Writes the person who leaves out the rest of the sentence as well as the comparison I made to even clarify it further. Not to mention you being hypocritical with your "revision" part. In the end, considering you made an utterly pointless post and did it in the way that you did, it says a lot about you, but nothing more.

Your last posts already illustrated your butthurt. This is just redundant.

That's...very (not to say extremely) little though.

Still it covers the best of the 80s, the 90s and most of the 00s

Which brings us back to our original premise that most anime isn't good
My question to you then: How do you know it "covers the best" etc when you have barely watched anything? From how I see it, it looks like it's basically only stuff that was dubbed and shown on TV or sold on VHS/DVD, except for some anime mentioned from the 00s and early 10s.

And how do YOU know what is best? Dumb question

Don't have to watch every trash anime in the world

Unlike you, I didn't claim to know "the best of the 80s, the 90s and most of the 00s", despite being apparently more qualified to do so.

But the question is, how do you know what a trash anime is? How do you know what a good anime is? As we have established, the anime community, as well as JRPG players etc generally don't know how to rate things properly. Sure, some anime you listed belong to the better ones and those are from better times while others are of questionable quality. Yet, there are enough others equally as good or better than those "better ones".

Being well read in fantasy/sci fi novels wouldn't help anything. That would just lead to more derivative works. These people do not have any knowledge of history, psychology or anything else that might help them create something unique for once. Video game writing is so shit.

This is part of the problem I guess, but, on the other hand, there have been tons of games with absolute shit writing that were excellent games, because the writers (or programmers or janitors who wrote them) didn't fancy themselves as great writers.

See every good Piranha Bytes game for example, or something like Ultima Underworld or Subnautica. These games don't have great writing, it's very basic and barebones, but because they knew their limitations, and their writing was just there to flesh out the world and give the gameplay some context, it was just fine.

The issue is the combination of shitty writing AND the delusion in their heads that they are great writers. So they write a crap-ton of shit, which makes their games unbearable (Dragon Ass: Origins, Divinity: Original Shit, Turdmaker: Fecalfinder, and many others).

It depends on the game. I don't think Gothic writing can be considered as "bad" because for the style they went for, they nailed it.

What I said was specifically aimed at narrative driven RPGs. Subtle worldbuilding and other things Gothic "writers" did amazing shouldn't count as bad writing because video games should not be judged by the same standards as books.

Idk man, I watched a lot of shows too

Off the top of my head.. Bleach, Gantz, Record of Lodoss War, Berserk, Full Metal Alchemist, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, Bosco Adventure, Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bepop, Triton, Attack on Titan, Naruto, Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, Rurouni Kenshin, Hellsing, Blood+, .hack//Sign, X, Afro Samurai, Appleseed and I'm probably forgetting some
That's...very (not to say extremely) little though. I have seen all of those, except for Bosco Adventure, Triton, Attack on Titan and Afro Samurai.

Akira and Ghost in the Shell are indeed very good but Ninja Scroll is just enjoyable if you want to turn your brain off

Well Idk what you mean... In anime I foremostly look for good animation. Ninja Scroll is one of the best.

Basilisk I rather liked, although I watched it in my early internet phase, so my rating from back then might not be as representative anymore.

It's a very underrated anime. There is a manga "sequel" (sort of) called Yaguy Ninja Scrolls. Similar story but still no adaption. I just like anything based on Futaro Yamada's books

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto was ok-ish/decent

It's mostly for history buffs, and a little slow. But animation was excellent

while Hakuoki Shinsengumi Kitan is from a time when I already stopped watching current stuff...and it's also shoujo aka for girls.

Didn't know that. Looked suspicious

Have you, for instance, watched Gankutsuou/The Count of Monte Cristo? It's also from the mid 00s and I liked it back in the day. Unfortunately, I only read the novel afterwards, so I couldn't compare. (And I only ever very rarely re-watch anything.)

Nope. I guess it should be good if based on the book
I agree with that. But animation is obviously not everything and while I very, very much like good animation, I can definitely live without it.

Is it? From what I see, it's a mostly adequately rated anime.

Oh, I very much like and have an interest in history (among a mass of other topics) and, unlike a lot of other people who watch anime, I don't mind it being slow at all...and you can even say that I prefer slow build-ups and good characterization. So you will never hear from me that an anime is slow, ever. I rated it 6/10 which means what I wrote above (note that most of the anime I rate are at 5 or 6, as, unlike most everyone else, I don't overrate everything; so there is no rating inflation here....it's just a shame I use a scale from 1-10 instead of 1-100 which becomes a lot more appropriate the more you watch). Anyway, I rated it that way, despite my decent knowledge of Japanese history but unfortunately I couldn't tell you why, as I watched it probably like 12-13 years ago.

Hehe.

Eh, book adaptations and all... I rated it 8/10 back in the day as a standalone work. If one knows the book, expectation and a comparison could probably swing a score in one direction or the other.

Idk how can you say this isnt good or for "turning your brain off"

storyboarding, editing, design, all excellent. it's basically cinema

Whatever media you posted doesn't load in any of my browsers. And I didn't say it's not good (I rated it 7/10). I said it's popcorn cinema and nothing that gets your brain going like Ghost in the Shell.

This is bang on, and you literally cite the exact 5 examples to watch which I would. I'd also chuck Urotsukidoji 1 & 2 in there just for the shock factor

I'm interested to know what your other choices would be to make up that dozen?
So for a point of reference then: How many anime have you watched?

Around 30-ish over the years.

Then show me these obscure masterpieces that I missed and which invalidate my views that most anime is trash, retard

Bad try at changing the subject with that conga line of quotes being present, not to mention the parts that aren't there. I could, but there is no point in listing anything to you because you very obviously don't care. Heck, you didn't even answer Falksi's question.

I also had three reasons for writing what I wrote and how I did it.
1. To make you realize how much you actually know and where you stand. And, unless you are a dimwit, you did. But instead of showing curiosity, you doubled down on ignorance. Needless to say, it's absolute dishonesty and I wonder why you even engaged in a discussion if you had no intention to honestly do so.
2. Genuine interest on my part to know how many you have watched for several reasons.
3. Kind of ties in with 1. because I wondered about the differences of curiosity and willingness of people to engage in a serious discussion between anime and something more "relevant" like RPGs. And while both can't be compared that well for obvious reasons, it seems likely that a topic more dear to your heart would have possibly elicited more positive responses, unless it's just straight up a bad character trait.

I don't mind listing very good anime or giving recommendations. So if Falksi, who has shown some interest, actually wants to know them for the purpose of watching them, he can shoot me a PM. After all, giving recommendations requires back and forth, unless you know the other person well...meaning that while I could recommend excellent sports anime, if the person dislikes the genre, there would be little point, even if they are objectively good.

A lot of what we see in books and games is what was imagined by white people. BTW have you heard about honest person from Africa/middle east? That was quite common in some old books about exploration and tribal lives in Africa/middle east.

They just evaded description of greed, Ebola, and other stuff.

They had no advanced culture to speak of. Sad, but it's the truth.
That's why they are blackwashing everything (including gaming).
So the offspring of post zoomers who don't happen to be on hormone blockers will believe that negros were always a part of Western civilization...

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
*bashes head against wall* So your sister's husband fed their baby his/her breast milk? Or...you kow, maybe he didn't do that and used things which weren't available 20000/30000/40000/50000/+ years ago?

I recommend to stop the wall bashing and try to pay more attention to the posts you respond to, like the part where i write, exactly right after the quote you made, "Strictly speaking the mother is only needed to breastfeed the baby, beyond that it can be taken care by the father". My sister breastfeed her baby and her husband took care of the baby while she was at work.

Anyway, i'm sure you could understand this if you bothered to pay attention, but the fact you didn't confirms to me that this discussion isn't really worth anyone's time.

Illiteracy hurts but the lack of genuine life experience hurts more, I would say. Most of the writers and editors today don't really know anything beyond what their ivory tower professors, 24 hour news, and like-minded peers tell them. They live in self-reinforcing bubbles.

Dark academia, but replace "academia" with e-sports or tabletop gaming

You gotta have a drug problem to think of this shit, right? There's no other way.

At some point [x] realized that the industry lacked talent so they just decided to produce content around polarized politics/poorly disguised fetishes because it'll sell regardless of quality.

You can replace [x] with any type of media.

Enjoy your corporate slop, I guess.
