Eternity Avowed - Obsidian's first person action-RPG in the Pillars of Eternity setting

Gave it a spin for a bit last night. Have to admit it was kind of fun parkouring onto the roofs and the lighthouse in the first area and getting a bird's eye view of everything. It's certainly set in the Pillars of Eternity universe (for better or worse).

Game seems to suffer from NPCs into overlong dialogues and info dump replies unfortunately. I'm trying to play a mage and the combat hasn't jelled with me yet but I probably just need to put more time in. Seems to be OK for what it is so far.

It's definitely a success for what Microsoft wanted in that it got more people to buy/renew Gamepass. I suppose the question is whether or not Microsoft really give a shit about the game's quality. Avowed's getting lukewarm user scores on sites like Metacritic and Backloggd, but if pumping money into Obsidian to make relatively low-cost, low-effort games every few years can reliably recoup the costs of development and give a boost to Gamepass, then Microsoft are probably happy.

Surely they'd judge it by whether or not there's a notable spike in subscriptions around the time of the game's release, which presumably there would be.

The only snag might be if stats show people playing for an hour or two then uninstalling out of boredom, but if those people keep their Gamepass subscriptions because there's other things of interest on offer, it's still a success by Microsoft's standards. Avowed is cheap bait to lure people in, then they'll stay for other, better games.
