God damn this 10 day trial, I am hooked again. Sperging over 4 characters levelling and profession training atm. WoW is way more enjoyable when you aren't rushing for the current max level/content. Seeing a lot of stuff I missed in Northrend etc. Being able to level 70-80 by doing two zones and a few dungeons is lol.

I played quite some time during Cataclysm, and I quickly noticed that a good chunk of the flight paths were unlocked early on. I spent and awful lot of time flying around and mapping the world (only parts I couldn't do yet were the high level Cataclysm maps) and it broke mah 'mershun that you could fly from tail to ass end on both continents without having explored to those places. It would at least make the world feel big and interesting instead of what it really was: zones with monsters with numbers and if your numbers were bigger often enough your numbers became bigger so you could go to other zones with monsters with bigger numbers.

That was a "bug" as Blizzard claimed and they were about to revert it. Apparently the lashback for such outrageous thing was too much and the derp remained in game.
Speaking of, during my travels through Azeroth I discovered four or so portals under bigass trees. I remember something about very high level dragons having been there, but they were scrapped. Why's that?
Those portals were supposed to lead you into a zone called Emerald Dream which has existed in WoW files ever since the alpha, Youtube is filled with videos of that area. The dragons themselves were guardians of the place during vanilla times and each of the portals also had a designated out-door raid-boss.

I suspect you were playing a deathknight and that is why all of the flight paths were unlocked for you. The lore reason being that you were a former hero of the third war who had already been to those places.

Ever since Cataclysm, everyone has had access to flight paths after hitting approperiate level.

I think they eventually 'fixed' that 'bug.' At least playing around on the PTR recently you don't automatically get flight paths.

I just checked one of my freshly made level 15 character before commenting on that because I also thought they had fixed it and was about to say that. It had all the flightpaths approperiate for it's level though and I had visited none of them.

Dunno why that would be. This is a character I started couple days ago and I've only visited Westfall and Redridge:

Maybe it's because of your trial version or something. >.<

Fresh Panda that just finished their starting area. And I've been levelling my low lvl alts, none of them have a bunch of FP's discovered that they haven't been to. I even got "stuck" in Badlands and had a mage guildie rescue me :D

Edit: from wiki
From Patch 4.2 to 5.1 Edit
From Patch 4.2 to Patch 5.1, players would automatically learn flight paths for areas that are level-appropriate for them. The option still existed to track down those that are higher level the old-fashioned way.

Looks like it reverted to old system in 5.2 and new chars shouldn't receive FP's as they level, only some for DK's and Pandas etc.

Shadow Priests truly are ruined beyond repair. What they did to the spec is just sad.

I feel p. bad for making my brother play the game as I don't think i'll resub now that my free time is over after seeing how bad it is. Can't even reroll as everything seems to have been dumbed down and with with retarded special mechanics thrown in that do nothing except put some of your old baseline abilities behind some pseudo combo point buildup.

If I ever got back into playing, I would play a class with stealth just to grief people and mass PvP for lulz and trolling.

I know Rogues and Kitty Druids and stealth. Can any other classes do this?

A while ago they homogenized everything. DPS consist of a general nuke, some form of DoT, a temporary (30 sec-ish) buff you have to keep refreshing, and a reactionary 'hit-this-now' ability triggered by your main spells. There's some slight variation but for the most part that holds true. All healers have expensive fast heal, cheap slow heal, and expensive but powerful even slower heal. Only minor variation in terms of HoTs (druids have one more but all have at least one) and group heals (priests have one more). Mistweaver monks are a bit unique but nothing special. Tanks all have AoE abilities that debuff mobs, a bread and butter attack, a rage/resource dump, and a 'pop-up' attack similar to DPS.

I think enhancement shamans can, cause I've never seen one.

Homogenization was one of the main reasons I quit forever. I took a break when TOC came out and was so bad that it offended me (plus my guild had just broken up), but I came back after 8 months or so for the last few months of WotLK. It was how boring Cataclysm seemed after playing that for a month that made me realize WoW had nothing for me anymore. I remember reading the panda feature list when it was announced, just because I was curious if they were going to fix the game enough that I'd be interested again, and I was disgusted with what I read.

Between utterly destroying raiding guilds and turning every roll into the same damn thing with different particle effects, it really is no wonder WoW is hemorrhaging subscribers. It's a shame Blizzard is too up its own ass to figure that out.

I don't think the WOW population can 'hemorrage' past a certain point. It will stabilize. The people left playing it today are so hooked it would take quite the... well, if they had to quit WoW, they'd probably kill themselves. They're just too invested.

Blizzard can probably run the game, never having it go F2P, for decades and decades. WoW just isn't something that can die.

People don't play WOW for the roleplaying systems; they never have. They play it for social pressure and instant gratification. As long as they get those things in enough doses, it doesn't matter how 'homogenous' the game becomes.

Mists of Pandaria is on sale for $10 right now. If you bought it recently you can call support and get a refund of the difference.

Well, bollocks. I have no explanation then. That character is still fresh milk-beard. :|
