Already better than wot because you will be able to damage higher levels than you.

Don't be too happy about it because the balance is still out of whack.

I heard they got nerfed to oblivion.
They did, but the 0.4.0 (a.k.a. OBT) mixed up the balance again so they are thankfully up to strength again. And in skilled hands they are also devastating, able to decided the outcome of the match themselves. This is mostly because they are immune to the RNG that all other 'gun' vessels suffer.

Tried it out, the classes are more or less balanced (why ship classes are balanced is beyond my fucken clue in addition to the asinine tier system), since battleship secondaries are autoaimed by an AI that cant hit worth shit, cruisers and destroyers can actually do stuff so thats nice. The game is arcadey as fuck but decent fun with a wide variety of playstyles.

Jap BBs if you want to be a cowardly shit way in the rear, sniping one hit kills with citadel, and crying as torpedo bombers are able to drop a full spread of torps right beside you in a manner that any sort of counterplay or dodging is impossible as your AA does absolutely nothing.
Yank BBs if you want to be a slow useless tub that cant shoot back at jap bb and cruisers, and gets torped by everything that comes in range. (higher tiers might be differant)
Jap cruisers if you are indecisive and want both decent guns and torpedoes and are willing to settle with shitty firing arcs and the fact that a playstyle that combines both effectively is impossible thanks to shitty torp range
Yank cruisers if you are a retard that cant aim for shit or manage turret placement or if you want to be the only thing in the game that can shoot down enemy aircraft
Destroyers if you enjoy hiding behind islands for half the game, waiting for the moment for someone to run into your torps, or if you find dying fun.
Carriers if you are a fag that wants to park on the other side of the map and get free kills on anything that isn't escorted by a yank cruiser consequence free.

They also really need to fucken remove zone control points in a game that has mobile ships.

Wait, what? Japanese, sniping? That's not realistic at all, Japs had terribad fire control.

Japanese had decent surface fire control, as old as their targeting computers were, and had excellent optics and reconnaissance aircraft. The game doesn't have radar or something to simulate its effects.

Japanese battleship doctrine stressed the importance of long distance gunfire in order to destroy the enemy fleet before it can retaliate, which lead to the Japanese being the first to adopt 14 inch, 16 inch, and 18 inch guns, so its one place where the devs are actually paying lipservice to history, aside from it never really working out in reality.

Do they model long lance torps being way faster and longer range than anything anyone else had?

Yes and no. There are Type 93, but only certain high-tier ships have them and they lack some of the punch. Although they were present in all its glory in the Alpha and were deemed OP by WG, especially on cruisers.

Yeah, but without radar-controlled gunfire, it didn't work out well, and so they would instead be outranged by the Americans. Turns out it doesn't matter if you have long-range guns if you can't actually hit anything at those ranges.

Do they model American torpedoes being crap and consistently failing to actually explode?

No but they tried depict the difference in the DDs:
- USN, good guns, shit torps
- IJN, shit guns, good torps

It feels like they increased fire chance for HE shells, I seem to catch fire every time someone shoots in my general direction.

Also, you get a medal when someone makes your magazine explode (because fuck you, oneshot mechanics are so much fun). What the fuck

Are guns on a destroyer actually useful for anything?
Low visibility and high speed means they are good at capping and if a DD manages to close in on you, you are dead, no matter if you are a CL-CA or a BB, you are simply dead.

They are good at lower tiers, but gradually lose meaning and any kind of fun at higher tiers, it's a balance issue of course.

EDIT: Sorry you meant guns, on IJN not so much. On the USN they are first class in killing other DDs and setting stuff on fire as they reload very fast.

Well, this seems rather bad. Seems like a lot of RNG involved, relative to the tanks and planes.

Game seems less p2w than wot and its "fuck balance" gold ammos. Well except when I have to face a tier6 premium in my tier3 ship.
Still it's pretty fun clubbing seals at low tier so far.

Carriers will run the match if the player isn't completely retarded, and Battleships currently suck until top tiers, the meta is currently:

Jap Carriers >>>>> US & Jap Cruisers > US Carriers > Jap Destroyers > Jap Battleships > US Battleships > US Destroyers

The problem is that Yamatio is tier 10 and you will have to spend a shitload of time grinding on ships that look identical to your untrained eye...:?

We'll see how it goes. I am playing Japan for exactly the same reason. :)
