The best way to avoid all of the pozzed modern-day garbage would be to make VTMB2 a prequel, not a sequel. I would place it in Paris during the Belle Époque, or something equally romantic.

Better yet, not have a successor and try something new for a change. Make a new IP with a similar atmosphere. For me the key of Bloodlines was being a pawn in a world of factions.

What do I love about Bloodlines? The story, the characters (both writing and voiceacting), the atmosphere, the music.

What I don't love about Bloodlines? Main quest is railroaded, it's too scripted at times, systems are lacking.

I've lost my rosetinted nostalgia glasses when looking at Bloodlines. I'm a different type of person who values things in games differently compared to who I was when I first played Bloodlines.

The ideal sequel to bloodlines would be a tactical turn-based dungeon crawler where you control a party of vampire hunters who purge the dungeon of vampires.
Cool it with the antisemitic remarks.

While we're on this topic, curious to hear if Wesp5 has played the SRR games and what he thought of them if he did. Personally I've quite liked the sort of urban fantasy melancholic vibe that they had.

Or the '80s. Hell, maybe several periods a'la Redemption. It could even include a dystopian future where, depending on your choices and sect, the vampires may or may not have the upper hand on humanity. Imagine that you could play as a member of Sabbat in such a setting.

Cool atmosphere, empty hubs, garbage combat, weak storyline, lots of bugs. Seems like Cyberpunk 2077 is the real VTMB successor.

First of all, op is a faggot. With that out of the way, I'd also like to say that if we're really talking about a sequel then it must involve Sabbat on a big scale. Like a version of the future where Sabbat's nearly won over but the sect is devouring itself so to say. Your job is to infiltrate Sabbat, rise in rank and then put an end to it, one way or another. It's can be called Days of Reckoning or something like that.

But if we're talking successor then yeah CP2077 is actually a pretty good one. So something of smaller scale but with more grit, edge and similar gameplay could work. Set it in 80x, take some earlier WoD version and good to go.

Tactical turn-based dungeon crawler (with plenty of economic simulation) and where you purge the dungeon of the unkosher vampires is the Merchant Guild's choice.

You'd need to make a new IP, because there's no way that Paradox is letting you make a game with sexy vampiresses, potentially offensive humor, and a sense of style. Since this is urban fantasy, that should be easy because you have the entirety of human myth and folklore to draw from. A new IP would also give you a fresh start, allowing the inclusion of new elements that an established IP wouldn't allow. For example, while DARK was ultimately a terrible game, it did have some interesting ideas like individual vampires having powers unique to them.

I'm surprised that nobody has even tried making a demo to attract funding on kickstarter. I'm not expecting something big, but what about a first game that is equivalent to no more than, idk, the Santa Monica section of Bloodlines? You can always expand down the line based on the profits you make from the first game.

Sure. I'm mostly being pessimistic about the vibes part of it and I agree that Cyberpunk 2077 is somewhat of a successor to VtMB in that regard. Although I think that Cyberpunk 2077 was also CDPR's swan song and I wouldn't necessarily trust them to make a good sequel to VtMB (spiritual or otherwise, but within the WoD setting) even if they'd have an interest in doing so today. They'd still probably do a much better job than TCR, particularly in terms of appropriate gameplay design, but I also think that they've creatively exhausted themselves by now. Comes with the territory of AAA gaming in terms of replicating the sort of work environment and corpo culture that their competitors have which is detrimental to the sort of narrative design which won them recognition in the first place.
I definitely don't disagree with any of this. Note that my intent of the thread is less to shoot down the possibility of good games ever again, nor even to envision a plan to actually get one made ... there are millions of negative posts about current day already. My hope is more to get people talking positively* about what they truly liked about the game and leave it at that. What's your dream version of a sequel/successor?

A proper World of Darkness game would be like Deus-Ex with social hubs. The conspiracies and character abilities would be metaphysical and religious in nature rather than technological. A bit more focus on personal existentialism rather than societal. Added sex appeal appropriate to the vampire genre and its themes. That is all.

Same as the original, but with updated (yet kept stylized in the same way) graphics and without a rushed second half. Ideally with more choices in terms of factions (sects & clans), more interactivity between the NPCs of the various factions throughout the plot (particularly in the case of sects) and more depth to the faction choices. Also ideally with customizable character appearance and ample clothing choices (+/- transmog system).

Like VtM: Bloodlines. No sequel, just another game in the same setting, some large Western city with interesting history and cool sights, the lore offers a million opportunities for a great story/setting/atmosphere/characters/abilities/classes/etc.

Maybe make an epic plot about uncovering the mysteries of Golconda and/or the Inconnu, factor in the Salubri, the Tremere/Tzimisce/Saulot trifecta, manipulation of the antediluvians who themselves are manipulated by Cain vs Lilith, etc. Bring in the Technocratic Union and some mages and fairies, maybe have part of the game set in the Deep Dreaming, or a descent into the Shadowlands and the ghostly city of Enoch where the Harbingers of Skulls yet dwell under the sleeping eyes of the Malfeans.

The possibilities are ENDLESS!

My hope is more to get people talking positively about what they truly liked about the game and leave it at that.
I didn't like it much as an RPG since it was so far removed from the traditional genre, should be expected considering the tabletop game's focus, but it's a great slice of the time period and its ethos. A game like Bloodlines could only ever have been made in the late 90's and early 00's, so while you might say you didn't want this thread to be about how there will be no good games ever again or how current year is bad, there certainly won't be another Bloodlines ever again. At best you'd get pastiche. The weltanschauung that created it simply doesn't exist anymore.

If you wanted a real sequel, meaning more of the same, it would have to have been a time capsule from the same era. What we will be getting from Paradox and Sumo is a real sequel in the sense that it is just as much of the time as the original was, with all that comes with that.

Fashion is underrated in RPGs, especially ones that emphasize the social elements like VtM. I'd want characters to react to it like they did on rare occasions in Alpha Protocol since pure combat buffs don't make sense if you're a Toreador trying to look your best.
