It wasn't the water temple, but the one in the center south, just west of Lake Hylia. Only had some water in it. So I've saved two maidens. Glad they removed the numbers from the map indicating which order to do the dungeons in in later games. Getting annoyed not knowing where to access almost the whole west side of the dark world. Edit: Will explore light world to see if I find anything new with hammer and hookshot.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Just finished the Chris route in Resident Evil on playstation. Great shooting, excellent atmosphere and the best voice acting I've ever heard.

Kept dieing like a pig until I adopted a dungeon crawler mentality and planned "safe" excursions from the safe room. Excellent fun.

I'm on a blobber kick. I recently finished Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos. I'm currently playing:

Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon

I dig it, but not as much as the first Eye of the Beholder.

BRO LOL STUCK WITH A PSP!?!

MOD THAT FUCKER I GOT TG16 NES SNES GENESIS GAMES ON MINE.

Dear Blobert,

I hope I didn't court controversy with my colorful expression regarding the PSP, a system I've held close to my heart for many years. Its moddability is, indeed, extremely impressive and I'm aware that for many this might overshadow its other qualities. The fact remains that, over the years, I've accumulated a prestigious collection of videogames I'm yet to play. I could say this of various platforms, not the least of them being the PSP. However, due to my habitual itinerancy, they are more adequately kept in my family's residence to be preserved in their pristine condition. There they lie like an unspoiled treasure, safe but unplayed. But what good is a collection, prestigious as it might be, with no one to play it? Therefore, whenever the opportunity presents itself I pick one of my old games from the shelf and play it. Naive affectation, some might call it, a bit ridiculous even(others, less inclined to generosity in what concerns other people's behavior, will see it as nothing but pretense). To these critics I will simply respond that the experience of playing a game in its original hardware cannot yet be matched in any other way, by any combination of means or artifice. Thus I've eschewed emulation on the PSP, in view of the fact that I've no lack of games for it, all orderly lined up on my shelf in perfectly playable condition with scarcely a speck of dust on their cases.

Hopefully my reasoning, thus explained, will bring you less cause for stupefaction. To the simple-minded all words are wasted, but to those who love incline no thoughts should be kept secret and I trust that even the most clumsy expression can find its way to understanding.
BRO MAYBE I CAME ACROSS WRONG

NO JUDGEMENT HEAR

I just finished replaying Blood, and I have to say I didn't remember it being this tiresome. Namely, by around the middle of Ep2 the level design and general aesthetics lose a lot of their flair and just remain kind of samey and uninteresting to the end. Ep3 is particularly painful with its constant industriada of warehouse, factory, sewers and whatever else, while the addon episode from the plasma pak is just plain dreadful. Also, the enemies are all just kind of annoying even if exploding them to bits is hilarious.

I once thought Blood the best of the Build engine games, but I think I'm now firmly in the Duke3D camp.

It's not tiresome, you just lack the skill.
Play the Cryptic Passage expansion while you are at it.
Oh, and Shadow Warrior.

It's clear that the first episode is where the majority of effort went in. Pretty much every level from it is memorable.
But i wouldn't describe the second half of Blood as tiresome. Not as a tiresome as Ion Fury at least. There is just something about these annoying hitscan cultists that makes it so enjoyable to fight them over and over again, sorta like those replica soldiers from FEAR. Always felt dissapointed if the level didn't feature them.

I do admit that you kinda have to know beforehand where they are, ESPECIALLY if playing on Well Done difficulty. I suppose if you are feeling really masochistic you could play on Extra Crispy, but it's just ridiculous.
Another perfect strategy is to just let them come after you and use cover.

Wow, why is Jill the second choice on character selection. She is a one woman death dealing doom machine.

Very catharthic blasting the ever living shit out of everything that moves after the legitimate survival horror of the Chris route though.

Very much a "I'm not trapped in here with you, you are all trapped in here with me" scenario.

Which RE game is this all talking about? There seem to be so many plus remakes and I know jack about the series.

My bad, it's a hacked PSX ROM called Resident Evil: True Director's Cut.

Emulated with retroarch swanstation core and crt royale shader.

 I wanted to post this on the books thread... Oh well, I'll also leave it here as a curiosity.

BTW I'm currently playing the RE2 remake.

José Saramago - The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis

It's the first time I read this Portuguese writer and I enjoyed him very much. The story is about Ricardo Reis, a doctor who returns to pre-WWII Portugal after living for many years in Brazil. While in Lisbon, he stays indefinitely in a Hotel, trying to decide what to do with his life, he forms a relationship with a hotel maid and falls in-love with a young girl that visits Lisbon periodically for medical reasons. At the same time, he is inexplicably haunted by the secret police and he also gets frequent visits from a dead poet who died recently and was his dear friend. The Poet is Fernando Pessoa, one of the most prolific poets/writers of the last century and Ricardo Reis is one of the pseudonyms he used, although he actually called them heteronyms because he created his alter egos as real people.

As you can see there are several layers in the book, but you don't need to be Portuguese, or have knowledge about Pessoa and poetry, to enjoy it. I only knew Pesoa by name and nothing more and I've never even been to Portugal, and I was fine. What helped though, is that the book had very informative annotations that gave you context about some of the names, places and events discussed. Also the Greek translation was very good, I would assume the English is too, I mean the guy is a Nobel prize winner.

Anyway, the writing is great. Saramago writes with wit, insight and care, and his character's existential and day-to-day tribulations are very interesting. You get a real slice of life of pre-WWII Lisbon, and since the main character is --as he also calls himself-- an observer of life, you get insights about everything, but never biased, which I liked very much.

I'm definitely going to read more of this guy's work.

I decided to play KOTOR as my next game, I have never played any of the Star Wars games but I love the movie franchise and I grew up as huge fan of the SW universe.

I installed some recommended mods like Restored Content and some graphic updates. Anyway Im 20 hours in and Im loving it. Its classic Bioware fun with interesting companions, hilarious dialogue options especially when you decide to be rude, very flexible ways to complete quest orders and significant combat skills that really make a difference in battle. And Im seeing the importance of Jedi Powers in combat, I fought some really hard Mandalorians on Kashyyyk and my Jedi powers made the difference in ensuring victory. I am also enjoying the Dark vs Light choices , Im following the Light so far

I also see where Bioware and others got the ideas of using a spaceship for further engagement with companions like we saw in ME which is similar design but more advanced. But great game so far, further updates to follow

Stumbled upon a free game called The Looker.

Screenshot 2023-11-09 113648.png

Where you have to solve various puzzles based around the idea of drawing a line from start to end. Took 2 solid hours to finish, was mostly fun and creative, and had a weird atmosphere with several out of place or uncanny elements. Did enjoy my time there.

However, after completing the game, I discover it was a parody of The Witness, a game I did not know about, and a seemingly good one with that.
A curiosity. I guess you'll enjoy it a lot if you did not like The Witness.

Completed Duke Nukem 3D(including The Birth episode).
Yet to play Shadow Warrior but if we're going to compare it to Blood i would say Duke 3D offers an overall better experience thanks to the level design alone.
The Duke's quiality of levels is fairly consistent across all episodes and it was good enough to the point that instead of feeling burn out i craved a bit more more so i decided to also tackle the Duke Caribbean expansion episode Life's a Beach. It was pretty good too and had some memorable levels, the summer vacation spin on weapons and enemies was also fun.
Currently following the Roxor sugggestion to try Duke Nukem Manhattan project, a 2002 platformer and a homage to earlier Duke titles as i understand it. First impressions are good.

I am also still not finished with Ruza, a cute little game with interesting combat system you can download for free on Steam.

These sidequests with optional bosses are pretty challenging.
Edit: Just completed what was avaliable. Not much was left apparently.
Took me around 7 hours to complete the first chapter and the dev is currently working on the next one.
Anyway, would recommend to try it if you're not allergic to graphics that makes you think of those anime inspired flash games.

Decided to replay the old (1988) Star Command since it bugg(er)ed out on me last time I played it about ten years ago, Ten years is enough time that I have forgotten all the details, but I do remember that it was quite good, being designed by the same guy who made the Phantasie games.

I played the Amiga version back then, but it turned out the only thing superior about the Amiga version was the graphics of the starting screen. EA was a much "gooder" company than SSI in that regard, making superior 16 bit versions of their games instead of porting them directly.

But it was not easy finding a DOS version to download, since most of the abandonware sites had been ordered by the copyright holders to take the game down. This despite the game not being available on GOG or Steam. I don't know if it's some soulless corporate lackey or Winston Douglas Wood himself being responsible for this dick move.

I had to giggle a bit when I saw how the manual had been scanned. In the paper manual the table of gun porn stats is two whole pages, and there's a blank page before it so you can see the whole table at a glance. But the person who scanned the manual also scanned the blank page, which means that you can't see the correct two pages when using the "Show Double Pages" option in Acrobat. So I had to use a third party program to edit the PDF file. (Adobe insists that you must register and use an online program to edit PDF files, for some reason.)

I finished Eye of the Beholder II. I had a strong sense of deja vu at the end, like I had beaten it before. Possible, as I had a copy of it in the 90's in one of the Forgotten Realms collections. Anyway, I didn't care for the end fight. I would have preferred something more cerebral, like working out a puzzle in a large area while avoiding Dran, as opposed to the disco-dancing hack and slash in tight spaces we got. All-in-all, pretty good. Not as good as EOB1 though.

Next up: Anvil of Dawn
