Have fun with Freespace 2, great game, I played the enhanced version a few years ago and the mouse and keyboard controls work really well. I might try it out with a joystick in the near future.
As to Fable, I enjoyed the tutorial in the first one until it turned into a mashing button game down linear corridors, I was surprised how fast it turned into a horrible console clickfest. I didn't even realize I was getting killed fighting a boss and automatically resurrecting myself with the fifteen potions I had because the inventory was so bad. I heard the rest of the series are worse.
Bioshock, I wanted to love and like everyone else I loved the atmosphere, gathering the logs (reminded me of Doom 3) and piecing the story together but the combat, weapons, upgrades, it all failed. It didn't work as a straight FPS nor an RPG. I remember at the time wishing they would have just focused on one or the other and tried to make it good. Like Fable, I'm not even going to 'demo' the second one.
Farcry, I really liked that one, irritating at times but a good solid shooter. I'm probably one of the few people on the planet that didn't mind the Tri-gens. Sometimes they were a hassle but I remember the treetop level with the hanging pathways, and some indoor areas, had some great times.
I recently played Crysis and immediately bought Warhead (the expansion). I liked them both too. Like Farcry, they both peter out in the end but still worth it in the world where there aren't any good FPS's anymore.
I skipped Farcry 2 altogether because it sounds like it will just piss me off. I 'demoed' Crysis 2 and tried playing it a few times for several hours but it's a COD or something. I just can't get into it so I'm glad I didn't do the pre-order on that one.
Right now, Risen, I 'demoed' it and after two hours bought it. It completely reminds me of G2 and it just sucked me in. Still playing it. I understand the last two chapters will probably disappoint me but I've already got my moneys worth out of it. First modern RPG I've played in awhile that I've liked. (Of course I never bothered with DA or Fallout 3). Liked New Vegas but never finished it.
The others are Dirt 2 (convinced me to buy a wheel and pedals), ToCA3 and Live For Speed (Oh, and Flatout, for drunk nights). Haven't played racing games since the Carmegeddon, I'76 days but damn if they aren't fun with all of the force feedback and physics.
I also just reinstalled Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. So I have my RPG, my tactics/strategy, and action. Surprisingly the action is racing games instead of FPS, but Crytek fucked that one up for me.
Despite the decline, there are a few new rare things out there worth playing, it just takes a lot of research to figure out what they are.
