Alpha Protocol.
It makes me feel dirty, but I guess that it's the guilty part of the pleasure.

And some Blazblue : Continuum Shift.

After the fustration I had with Cyanide's Blood Bowl client, I purged it from my harddrive and went back to playing League of Legends.

I also occasionally sneak in some Last Stand in Dawn of War 2

Been having a shitload of fun trying to become Shogun with Sid Meier's Sword of the Samurai. Now that I've kicked Japan's collective ass I'm going to fight nefarious international terrorists with Sid Meier's Covert Action. Amazing that these games which are nearly over two decades old are more FUN than most recent releases.

Oh, and Bejeweled 3.

Sadly I made it to the fucking derpa roads/fortresses that are in Divinity II. Fuck. What was Larian fucking thinking?

Bought Dead Space on that final Steam sale. Made it to chapter 2 so far. Controls are a bit annoying, but it's an interesting game that is still holding my interest for now. The PC port is really fucking shitty. I should have just gotten this for my Xbox360 or PS3.

I usually ignore you Jaesun, but the fact you posted about Dead Space makes it ok.

I bought Mafia II (2 for those not :monocle:) on the steam sale. chzr can attest to this. I played it through. The full price in Aussie dollars is 79 sale price was 19, I completed the single player content of the original story in 16 hours of play. That is a fucking joke.

The open world was a fucking joke, too. There are only clothing stores (with a limited range), diners and bars, gun shops, gas stations (you never need gas wtf?) and safehouses.

There were no real side missions beyond the story content and the controls suffered from extreme consolitis.

I enjoyed the story itself but the huge "open world" felt bereft of anything interesting. You can drive around and look at the city but there's fucking nothing to do.

It reminded me alot of the original GTA games (1 and 2), beyond missions you can only steal cars, shoot cops and run over pedestrians. Mafia II doesn't even rack up points or a score for this and it's not even that fun. We've advanced almost 12 years from the original GTAs and they're now offering huge rendered 3D open worlds that are basically the same as the top down.

I wasted time on it and it felt like a fucking waste of time. I'd ghave completed the story in less time had I not restarted after Chapter 4 (to facilitate collection of the titty cards) and had I not died in some gunfights due to fucked up AI and camera control.

Also, the cover system was fucking annoying at times. The story itself was a good morality tale and the game did alot to make you feel like a "made man" at times. But only occassionally.

I'm going back to Victoria II, Gothic II Gold and maybe JA2 for some :incline: after that.

I haven't been able to play F:NV for almost 2 months eventhough I was really excited about it at first. I ran out of steam on the playthrough and the patch made me want to start a new game. Will need time to get the incline there.

Playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

It's...okay. The core mechanics of combat are nothing special, the combat is far too evocative of God of War (not a good thing in my book), and none of the enemies or bosses are particularly special in any way, shape, or form. Platforming is rather uninteractive for about half of the game, as the first times you can really screw up only show up many chapters in. It's also one of the most derivative games ever, as you can easily pinpoit exactly where certain gameplay elements were ripped right out of other games.

Yet I'm still playing it. Why? Because it does have a lot of variety and creativity. While the levels aren't brilliant, they never get particularly stale. And while the enemies and bosses are not particularly challenging nor unique, they do at least have some minimum differentiation that keeps things fresh. In fact, the bestiary is actually rather large, and the game keeps throwing new enemies at you until the end.

While it isn't a stellar example of action gaming, it's solid enough. It also does have two things working towards it though. One, I'm finally happy to see another Castlevania game that isn't the homonormative crap that's been pushed ever since Symphony of the Night got big with the Final Fantasy 7 generation. Second, Gamefly won't send me Vanquish for some reason. Why you gotta hate on a brotha, yo?

This Saturday night, after getting drunk as usually, I fired up my old copy of Theme Hospital and played it until dawn. Meanwhile I kept my alcohol level up by drinking some more firewater, then, as the sun rose I decided to smoke some of the good ol' mary. Hadn't done that for months so, unsurprisingly, it fucked me up quite good. Then I vomited in my bathtub which I sadly mistook for my toilet.

T'was a fine night of gaming, I might even repeat it next month with another classic game. Maybe I'll give Lords of Magic another shot but we'll see...

A trick to improve the mouse movement a bit: disable vsync in the game menu and then use a tool to force vsync and triple buffering. Disabling vsync within the game is already enough to improve it but you'll get some horrible tearing, so forcing vsync with another tool will fix that and, according to my own findings, improve the mouse look a bit. Rivatuner has the nifty D3DOverrider that can do that, but Ati Tray Tools also works too.

Minecraft, though I'm not doing anything productive or interesting with it. And Sid Meier's Railroads because that's a relaxing game for relaxing bros to relax with and watch trains drive into tunnels.

Great casual game. I've logged more than a few hours building my railroad empire in it.

I'm largely playing IL-2 Sturmovik these days, flying the BF-109 F-2. Even after 60+ hours logged, I'd still consider myself a rank novice, but damn if it isn't exciting when you get that rare kill. Just doing gunnery practice and landing practice over and over again is fun enough without touching the campaigns or multiiplayer.

I'm also running through the Splinter Cell series for some reason, of which I've only ever finished the first two games. They aren't bad, but they aren't great either. I'm in the middle of number 2, and although I like Sam Fisher a great deal, and enjoy the general premise, the trial and error design is killing me. The trouble is that you can never tell by looking at it how concealed a given area is. In Thief, the depth of the shadows make it clear, but in SC it feels completely arbitrary. Likewise, you can decide to shoot out the lights, only to discover that these particular lights are invulnerable without any visual cue beforehand. The AI is the same way, noticing your actions in one instance, and behaving cluelessly in an identical situation. Very frustrating yet sill fun.

Chaos Theory is much better than Pandora Tomorrow (must be because they outsourced PT to the chinese), the series kinda fizzled afterwards so might as well quit after finishing CT.

Wolfenstein 2009.

It's not a worth succesor to Wolfenstein 3d or even Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
The setting, with german resistance and russian paranormal spies, is quite ridiculous.
I'm also allergic to uber-badass protagonists, who with an ironic grin dispatch whole platoons of enemy soldiers in the cutscenes. I understand it corresponds well with the gameplay, but nevertheless it makes me root for low level grunts the protagonist is dealing with.

Having said that, I have a tremendous amount of fun with it, and bayonetting nazis in slow motion never gets old.
I also like the veil mechanics. Quite a nifty gimmick. It makes me respect Raven Software a bit - even though the game was obviously made for consoles and PCs get only a half functional port - they try to advance the fps genre. You know, like with the time travel in Singularity and saber combat + force powers in Jedi Outcast.

A shame they are now reduced to making DLC for Black Ops.

I just completed Darksiders, a hack&slash game that I bought on Steam's Christmas sales. I found it to be entarteining enough, with decent action and suitably impressive boss fights, although it got a bit repetitive in the end. It took me about 25 hours to finish the game on normal, so I definitely got my money's worth (€7,5)

Nothing. I reinstalled ToEE and noticed Co8 went from 5.0.0 to 6.0.0. Made some party but didn't get past the new shop thing. I only have that and JA2 on the comp, maybe I'll make a new party in that instead. Or finish watching The Starlost finally.

Exactly how I felt. The setting was just silly, but the game itself is a lot of fun. The gluon gun or whatever it was, the one that shoots the tentacle out, is satisfying to use.
