Yeah, and media wasn't all over Wasteland 2 as it was over DFA, so I'd expet they're going to get a couple of million for this.

Damn, are times really starting to change? One can only fucking hope.

A little over 24 hours. As I said, it's not quite as fast as DFA, but it's still going steady, and getting lots of big donations.
DFA recieved lot's of media because it got twice the target money in less than a day. Wasteland has yet to meet it's target, so it's less attractive as a news piece. But still, if Fargo had asked for 400k like Schafer, he would have reached almost twice that in just one day! Fucking glorious! :salute:

This is a big slap in the face of publishers that said no to the games, but the huge non-tastefull rape will come when Wasteland 2 and DFA are finished and sell over 1M each, giving more profit to "old games no one wants" that EA ever hoped to get with Mass Effect 3. I can't wait. :roll:

It does kinda feel like buying a vote/review but I'll see if I can scrape up something extra next month. Right now I'm still shaky. I rarely if ever wrote such a big check in my whole life.

Now all you need is for Fargo to donate 10K to S&S2 in return.


Speaking of 10k rewards...they are going to be gone by the end of the day! Fargo is probably kicking himself that he didn't have more spots up for grabs.

Also this, yeah. The budget stated is more than double of DFA, so what you say is quite spot-on.

Though I have to say that I sort of feel pity for that tactical shooter group. They got pretty much no media attention, and if they're honestly intended to make a tactical shooter a-la RB6-RS, that's a fucking shame that they're completely ignored like that.

I don't know how much publishers will care, but it's definitely a great thing for developers. This model of funding means that basically every copy sold is pure profit, and seems like the perfect way for trusted mid-sized developers to get projects off the ground.

I wonder if Fargo will still throw in his 100k...He was only meant to do that to make it easier to reach a million. Maybe he'll now surreptitiously sweep it under the rug while whistling a happy tune? ;)

I think that was just to make the total goal seem like less than it was and prove how dedicated he was to the project. Not saying he was bluffing, but I think the offer was just in case it didn't make a million and that's all.

The idea was that he'd add $100k to the $900k collected because the game really needs a budget of $1mil, or he would add $100k of his own if the campaign couldn't reach the goal without it, so they wouldn't lose all the donated money. Something of a last resort. He's under no obligation to put his own personal funds into this if it is doing fine without him.

Yeah, I was expecting like 1.2 or 1.3M, but this is going much better than I expected. Something like 1.7M might be a reality.

Yeah I'd love a SWAT style game. Problem is that it's part of a genre that is quite overdone at the moment. We have military shooters; dubious COD shooters mostly along with Arma and all the Battlefields that fill all ends of the spectrum and this just seems to the average pleb to be more of the same. They don't really have the same devoted bands of fanatics to promote and back them as the Schafer adventure crowd or the totally starved TB party RPG bunch. Maybe in a few more years when SWAT is a real distant memory...

I assume that he meant he wasn't going to take a paycheck for the project as he figured his "paycheck" will come at the end of development when they get to sell the game.

The fact that he will have total control over the money is quite interesting. All he has to do is produce a product. They could in fact work on 2 games with this money, and as long as they finish Wasteland II the other project is just bonus.

In theory if this project goes smoothly and does well after completion, and if they manage their money correctly, they should always be able to proceed without a publisher from now on.

They still might want to turn to Kickstarter (even if they don't have to) just because it is a pretty good way to mitigate the fear of piracy.

It is all quite interesting, and if people's interests in pre-funding projects has longevity then it will be very bad for publishers as sooner or later all the good designers will be free from their grip.

The tactical shooter guys also don't seem to have a very clear idea of what they're going to make, and they're not even aiming to collect enough funds to make the game, just to pitch it to publishers. There's no guarantee there will be a game even if the kickstarter succeeds. They're going to have to do better than that, pure adn simple.

They're well over 700K now. There's no chance it won't happen. I predict >1.5M in the end.

This whole thing has put me in a good enough mood that I'm going to be optimistic and predict a final tally of around 2M, with a late surge pushing it over the top.

Well I'm just hoping it goes above 1.5 million $. Anything else would be a huge and most welcome bonus. I know donations will slow down, but there are still 33 days to go. Word should spread. And late surge should boost the money considerably.

I might agree with this if they weren't basically hiring on a whole new team of ex-Wasteland/Fallout developers for writing and design purposes.

Well I'd like it to reach 1.5 mil to get as 'complete' a product as possible but I'm actually a bit wary of it going too far as then there's pressure on Fargo just to make everything shiny with cutscenes and full VO work and bloom, lots and lots of bloom, just to justify the expenditure. This project seems to be the kind that works best being lean and mean with just enough money to do everything with focus and efficiency, much like the original.
