They won't buy licence 10+ year old engines, that should be pretty obvious.

JA2 may be a 10+ year old engine, but it plays better than most today.

Also, they want to avoid a graphics bloat so they can stay within budget. The new higher-end 3D graphics (modeling etc.) kills a budget.

Peter Brofisted the fuck out of you, bro. Majestically majestic.

Gave 500 to Schafer, thinking about pledging 1k now to Fargo... dear God what have I done!

BROUGHT FORTH THE INCLINE, THAT'S WHAT.
You need to split that donation up. $15 to Kickstarter and $975 for the statue.

Do we get a status update on the codex statue fund every once in a while? Could throw in some additional moneys for that one too.

Whats technically stopping Fargo from grabbing the money, buying fake IDs and flying off to Thailand for the rest of his life? How Kickstarter is gonna insure the backers?

Nothing I think,I may be wrong but I believe Kickstarter just makes sure the money go to them nothing more.
Schafer and Fargo could spend all their money on booze and hookers after that

Yeah, Kickstarter doesn't guarantee anything at all.

That's the only downside to this whole thing. It would be very easy for someone to defraud a bunch of people and ruin it for everyone else.

However the site does say this:

  1. If I am unable to complete my project as listed, what should I do?

If you are unable to fulfill the promises made to backers, cannot complete the project as advertised, or decide to abandon the project for any reason, you are expected to cancel funding. A failure to do so could result in damage to your reputation or even legal action on behalf of your backers.
I imagine that something at this scale (millions of dollars) might make it in the interest of Kickstarter to make sure that the developers follow through. It would certainly fuck THEIR reputation if Tim Schafter took off with the 3.3 million and disappeared. Kickstarter would be torn a new asshole as wide as the internet if something of that scale happened.

The Admins/Mods just decided to do this about 8 hours ago, so I'm sure they have their hands full setting this stuff up.

It might take some time to rig a counter etc.

What are you the admins minion? I demand instant gratification and these delays are unacceptable.

Naw, I'm just highly motivated to see this game fly...and the Codex statue would be really great.

DO IT! And do it through the codex kickstarter-kickstart project for a location and the statue.

Which is why only people with established reputation in the industry, like Schafer and Fargo, have a shot at succeeding with big Kickstarter project like this one. Since they risk losing their reputation if they don't deliver.

Damn, you need at least $75 to get access to the early playable beta? Not gonna be able to spare that much this month and the next, which is unfortunate.

If you guys don't mind, maybe we should list the top 30 contributors in order of monies donated so that people know how much they have to pay to overthrow those above them.

Don't forget there are people who donate for the Codex who don't need a copy. I donated $100 both places to I don't need one of the 30 codex copies and I am sure there are many people who are in the same boat.

We need get the gold bricks up on the front page.
I have to re-code it. :(

Well that right there sucks.

So.. tomorrow then?

Sure, but this will also make people want to compete in order to bask in their awesomeness, so this way we might end up getting more monies.

Well, yeah, you're a rich sonofabitch.

If that's the case, those who have extra copies can always agree to pledge their Codex copy away to the people out of the top 30, again in order of how much they donated. I just think people might be more motivated to donate if they knew paying this much to the Codex would guarantee them a copy, and it'd also drive the average donation amount of the top 30 contributors up.

Anyone who gets butthurt over being pushed off the list doesn't belong on the 'dex.

Yes, but, on the other hand, it may discourage those who aren't in a position to contribute too much at the moment for various reasons. And, in the end, this is, first and foremost, about getting the Codex in W2, not about who has the most disposible income this month.

People would need to know beforehand if their donation will be made public. We explicitly state on the donation page that it will not. This was all done in such a rush that a few things weren't thought out very well unfortunately.
