Thanks for headsup. I would not have checked my email otherwise. I got an invite!

Darktide Steam Storepage said:
Congrats to all the Rejects who have already been chosen to lay down their lives for the Emperor. We’re certain you’ll accomplish
great things in Tertium this weekend.

As we all know, the Emperor provides -
so we have now opened up for sign-ups via Steam as well
. Navigate to our Steam page and click the “Request Access" button for another chance to be included in this weekend’s Closed Beta Test

Looks like the rejected Rejects might have a 2nd shot.
Something something Xzibit meme.

I don't know what that means.

*I had to look it up.

i used to be "with it" then "it" changed.

I did notice ADL already mentioned that the Steam page has a second request link. So my edit was unnecessary. What can I say? oops

One of the things I didn't like about Vermintide 2, was that it was simple map/route memorization, I would have preferred it been more random, and the game balanced accordingly.

This game seems to have a bigger emphasis on ranged combat, and I kinda like that, but is this game just simple map/route memorization the same as Vermintide 2? If so, it's probably gonna be a hard pass, or I'll wait on a sale.

There's no option to invert mouse, so I guess I'll be letting some teammates down by not being able to aim. They did remember to add an option to invert controller y axis, except using a controller will also mean I can't aim. Sorry teammates!

Performance is terrible.

I noticed one of the default settings "up scaling" was a major source of it looking bad. Look for it in settings and turn that off right away.
Turning it off didn't seem help frame rate for me.

While my system isn't the best I would hope to get more out of it. I did a test run just to see if the Main Lobby was some exception and it was a mistake. Slide Show the whole mission.
Glancing the Forums and see a number of complaint threads. Here's one: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/unacceptable-performance/50620/3
Many of these people have better systems than me.

Character Creation had some fun flavor touches. I got the sense that something cool was supposed to be happening when I was pushing the buttons.

*Quote from a guy from my link:

I’m suffering from extremely low framerates, as well. My stats are:
nVidia GTX 1080, Intel Core i7 10700, 32GB of RAM.
I get that my system is a bit on the old side, but I shouldn’t be getting 30-40 FPS on medium settings. My suspicion is that Shadows are killing my performance. There is no shadow quality setting to be found, and shadows appear to be extremely high-resolution. I’d like an option to run significantly lower shadows, if possible.
LoD culling doesn’t seem to do much, either. Facing towards the middle of the map drastically lowers my performance.

Yeah the performance is awful, totally killed my plan to buy the game when it releases because I know it won't be any better optimized than it is now. Ray tracing fps is shockingly bad, 40-50 fps even when DLSS is enabled. Not even Cyberpunk was that bad for me.

Prior to installing the game I updated my video Driver just a couple days ago and did a clean install too.

In a attempt to see what I could possibly do to improve preference I reinstalled the Driver ( clean install again) ---> This actually seemed to bump me up to something resembling playable... ~20 FPS !

I am also playing with upping the settings from everything set to Off and low settings to a few things set to Medium (and most the other gimmicks set to Off). Better Resolution too. Still around 20 fps.

Played a few missions with Zealot and Psyker. Moment-to-moment gameplay is solid. Both the guns and the melee feel very satisfying to use. Abilities are a mixed bag. Zealot's ability is pretty much the same as VT2's Zealot which is meh but the Psyker's head popper is great.
Performance is awful and while I didn't expect my PC to be doing amazing I have frequent fps drops and even stutters when hordes spawn or (I think) when zones are being loaded in.

My main concerns are classes (careers or whatever the fuck confusing PR terminology they are using to dodge this issue) and the maps.
I was hoping that they'd expand on VT's career talents system but the only thing that's different is that there are just more rows. The talents themselves don't seem particularly interesting and they even kept the same homogenized crap with the first row being healing-related and the last being ability (vt also had the third row being crowd-control but I haven't noticed something like that here). This is only compounded by the fact that there's only 4 classes at launch with the rest waiting to be released as DLC I'm sure.
I feel like they lost quite a bit of flavor by having the character be player-created. Sure, they tried to give them a lot of personality and the voice-actors are quite good but I really liked the Ubersreik Five and all their bickering and camaraderie even if they repeated lines like crazy sometimes. Something something Hogger's bridge.
There's still bickering, but it's between two nameless soldiers that I'm never going to meet again after finishing this mission.

As for the maps, I played a few missions (through Quickplay, so this may be my fault) and I genuinely can't tell which is which. They're all just factories and I have to do shit in them because a lady told me that there's baddies in block #15324.

Also whoever got rid of the final stat screen is a spineless coward. Give me my green circles back.

It didn't help immensely but sharpening, depth of field, motion blur, lens flare, and all the other lens features can be turned off to give you a slight performance boost while making the game look better. My eyes aren't camera lenses and the sooner video game devs realize that, the better.

Summarized perfectly. It feels like a V2 prequel in many ways. They expanded upon stuff that was totally unnecessary - character creation and 3rd person hub waking - while ignoring increased gameplay depth.

That being said, Fatshark nailed the tone, visuals, audio, setting, and combat. Game plays great but gets repetitive and feels shallow.

Been trying out the beta. The game itself seems fine, but I dont think it is ready for release this year on the technical side of things. Loading times are loooong and the game crashed on me a few times.

EDIT: OK, played all the missions available in Beta a few times. The game is Vermine Tide with guns, nothing more and nothing less. Shooting is done surprisingly well (I especially enjoy the lasguns in this game, good work from the devs), map design is OK (though almost completely linear, you can explore some side rooms for extra loot and thats about it). Classes are fairly balanced, each one has something going for it (my favourite being the ex-Guardsman). Graphics generally is cool, I really like the design of enemies - proper 40K right here.

The technical issues are something to keep in mind, though tbh I notice them less and less the longer I play. The game is gonna have the same problem that all the games in this genre have - ie once you play every map a few times, things will get old. In any case, its cool - if you are into the genre and/or 40K its definitely worth looking into. Me, I am still undecided whether I will get it on release or wait a while. The game is better than I expected it to be, given some of the drama that happened on Steam forums, so I count that as a win for both the devs and the players.

There were people making threads couple months back about how the game would suck because there were no space muhreens, other people complained about there being too many women in that game and yet others complained that there would be either too much shooting or not enough of it. The devs (or rather whoever is in the charge of the Steam forum) went full retard, started to delete threads and calling people biggots and such. It didnt really fill me with much confidence as the devs ended up looking quite insecure about their product.

when you see it...
What did you expect? I mean, it makes sense for non-attractive females to become convicts with complementary haircuts. After all, this is not Conan Exiles.

What I am actually interested in is how diverse-looking the armour sets will be. So far I have seen the initial class ones (the ones from the selection screen) and the jumpsuits. If Vermindtide is anything to judge Darktide by, I guess we will see at least some choice in this department.

Is there character recustomization? Haven't found it in game if there is. I don't expect to be able to change a character's voice persona or origins but I'd like to be able to edit them in case armor looks like total shit with a particular beard/haircut.

As usual, girls are fuck-ugly and there's probably an option for being black-skinned with an afro (but since we're talking about repurposed perps, then it's actually somewhat justified, kek). Also, Body Types because saying "Male and Female" will scare troons, even though WH40k is one of the most hostile universes to the alphabet brigade groups, as the Imperium would recognize that kind of weirdos as potential Slaneesh cultists or terminally insane lunatics.
On the other hand there is tech and psychic powers to swap genders at will, but "non-binary" shit is exclusive to Slaanesh cultists and such.

More importantly, do these background choices change much? The game is a Left4Dead clone after all.
Perhaps if there's a hub to interact with stuff between missions it would be better, but no idea if that's the case.

Wouldn't have it any other way. There is no room for playing dress up with your cute waifu in 40K. I pray to God they don't add an Eldar at some point.
*notices avatar* Checks out.
I would agree with the eldar, they don't make sense here and they're to blame for everything bad in the setting. As for not having cute waifus in WH40k...
