It's multiplayer and available only to those who bought the collector's edition, but a message in-game says it'll be purchaseable in the steam store at some point.

Else the single player doesn't miss much but the multi misses executions. :)

It's just an item, and from what I read it is the same as a chainsword. Other pre-order bonus included unique armour or reskinned weapons. I'm fine with that because it's only cosmetic. Though the power sword is considered as an individual weapon and thus can unlock ranks which in turn give experience, and is also needed as part of an achievement.

The meaning of selflessness in the purest sense is one that seems like such a loss definition for many, but Captain Titus is a firm reminder of what one can do if they truly give of themselves to no end. Even if by doing so means an unending amount of slaughtering the enemies of the Imperium, Humanity and the Emperor of Mankind. Such is an existence where the comforts of an easy life are cast aside to an endless series of battle where the only rest one can ever hope for before death is the moments between transport towards a new theatre of war. But that is what Space Marines do and without a second question, doubt or thought.

Ever an underlying message, a Space Marine in service to the Imperium seeks to better themselves, their skills and their proficiency with their equipment to no end – lest they meet their end at the hands of someone far more able than them. Captain Titus on more than one occasion stares death in the face over the course of Space Marine, yet does so without so much as flinching before grapping death around the neck and choking the life out of it. Only one so accomplished, with decades of training and experience on the battlefield could endeavor on a task so fraught with peril and survive. Yet most importantly is how Titus acts in the end.

...

Static characters lacking dynamisms are all too common in many contemporary video games. Characters that are tough guys, who spew a line or two, fire their weapon, slit a throat and keep moving forward without ever giving a player something to look at with a desire to emulate in a way that could truly better themselves. Captain Titus breaks this mold succinctly. He shatters the box and shows players that there are still video game characters out there that can serve as heroes and amongst the weeds and chaff of cheap narratives, stands amidst the shoulders of Triple-A title giants, wielding a Thunder Hammer and ready to take on all challenges that stand in his way.

Very flowery, and too much of an attempt to stand out, but the article is right in that there are some qualities to Titus, despite the dislike that many people displayed towards him. He's not much of a memorable character but he isn't overdone like other action heroes and sadly these days that counts for something.

Picked this up for $14 on Black Friday and.... I ACTUALLY KIND OF LIKE THE VERSUS MULTIPLAYER. Really weird, the maps are super basic (And super few) and the gameplay doesn't seem to be much of anything special, but the few games I've played of it have been enjoyable.

And even weirder still, I think I like it more than exterminatus. Possibly because it irritates the piss out of me that the weapon perks you REALLY KINDA WANT for exterminatus can't be unlocked during it, and to get XP at all you have to vote to exit instead of replay.

Nothing wrong with liking it. The mechanics are solid, gameplay is fun - problem is/was lack of support, constant maps, variety, etc. Meh. Play Extermy with us when the Chaos DLC is released?

Yes. it sucks that there isn't an alternate way to unlock perks in co-op, as not everyone like competitive play. Maybe in the future but I wouldn't hold my breath. If anything, Space Marine is one of the few competitive games I enjoy and come back to, and that's probably because it's rather low-profile. As I said before, it's a decent game on all fronts, unfortunately lacking ambition.

Chaos DLC is gonna cost money, and judging by Relic's pricing of Retribution DLC it'll probably be $60 for 2 new maps. Also slightly concerned they're going to fuck it up with the CTF mode since that'll water down the already small player base among three modes. Though maybe it's more active on console. I dunno.

Also HNNNNNNNNNNNGH played like 4-5 fucking hours of Space Marine multiplayer today and loved it. All the classes seem pretty good, but I think the one I'm best at may be tac marine with regular bolter. Does good damge at all ranges, and rolling around is super useful. Devastator with heavy bolter probably takes the cake for most fun, though.

Jesus Christ Relic stop adding new multiplayer modes. All I can figure is there must be a decent community of people playing MP on console, 'cause PC's not very well populated.

Well, adding new multi modes isn't a bad thing, but having people pay for them is a sure way to break your community between those who have it and those who don't. I'm curious to see if the idea to add so many DLC come from Relic or THQ though.

Space Marine modding is BACK thanks to Modnexus. People have been scrounging out mods they dloaded or grabbing from web.archive after the Relic forums went down.

The mod I'm playing with is Project ULTRA https://www.nexusmods.com/warhammer40000spacemarine/mods/34 because it sounds like they changed the most things. And I've played this game over 9000 times so I need it.

In fact those dedicated players have gathered about a gig of mods into one package - and most of them I've seen before on RelicNews forums so they're legit. I completely vouch for them.

Also I MIGHT have a larger repository of these mods since I was spending a lot of time with them.. but I have no idea where it is if it even exists. Yay.

On that note.. I've actually personally done little mods here and there... since release, which means I probably should've mentioned them to you all beforehand lol. I mean, Cope (I think) created a good tool that decrypts the files into *.xml. In other words, quite damn easy to understand.

Been doing stuff like... Letting Leandros and Sidonus perform executions. I actually haven't seen that one yet. I spent a lot of time trying to fuck with the AI and basically I couldn't figure out anything besides making them not move out of range, and have them "not obey others' radius" of melee so they have more opportunities. Also I think that may have simplified things for the AI (perhaps setting 0/0 to min/max evade distance gives the algorithm a very easy homework assignment).

I've modded the guns personally but so have others'. You know, "canonical" fire rate, sound & tracer fx (I used Stalker bolter fire/tracer for my old bolters. Project ULTRA is using Thunderhawk bolters lol which is also cool, Different strokes.. for the same folk.

Still - this is like pseudocode. It doesn't even feel like scripting. It's just that the xml is annoying to parse.

I do a lot of my learning/modding by re-engineering code ... because I'm lazy ... which is a good thing because laziness + necessity = creativity.

*Laziness is also what prevents me from sharing mods lol I don't give a shit about reputation or other peoples' entertainment. My games are like my cars - uniquely riced-out for my own benefit.

But if anyone is interested in one of these hackjobs I've done.. Name it.

Edit: WWOOWOW fuck my life I was trying to find the very important master attr_pc for half an hour and it's staring me in the face in the Space Marine directory.

I have problems.

Throw this in your Space Marine folder.

No more need to QTE-mash Nobs. One hit kill.

I think, at least, the last time I used it was a few years ago.

Edit: Oh look! It actually does that for every QTE except the boss.

Funny because I "wrote" it myself. ("Wrote" because it was just identifying I think 1 or 2 variables and then exploiting it hahahahaha)

Edit 2: Swagg. This pic below uses someone else's mod. Or mods. They're available on the Nexus, the community managed to save a gig of stuff. (Also, yes, Reshade)

Come to think of it... the behaviourtree.xml file looks maybe manipulable...(spent years thinking it couldn't but a "fresh" pair of eyes sees new patterns)

Anyone wanna remind me how to unpack all the files myself? Want to dig into to look at the MP bot AI-setups (for the survival modes or whatever)

Edit: OMG the guy who made the tool to decrypt the files is still alive and back on the Nexus. 10 years later. Now I actually have the tools I've been missing ragh.

ohbtw I found the updated tool needed to extract w/nested folders. In fact.. it's likely I'm the only person that has it.

From some backup external HD like 7 years ago. And I didn't even know.
