Btw, a question for our resident weaboos (+/- historically literate individuals like Delterius & FreeKaner): what does each of the flags below represent?
1642544820026.png

If I understood it correctly, the flag on the top right is the Shogunate flag (Tokugawa flag with the red sun superimposed upon it) and the one on the bottom right is the imperial flag (imperial seal on a red background); but what about the other two? Liberal and council republic respectively? And does anyone have a clue about what the characters on the bottom left flag mean?
Bottom left is the flag used by the February 26 1936 coup attempt, reading "Revere the Emperor, Destroy the Traitors" (尊皇討奸).

According to Flags of the World, the lower-right flag is an actual flag used specifically for the Emperor. The upper-right was actually used as a civil ensign briefly in the 1870s, but its use here is probably based on a naval ensign used by the Tokugawa briefly before the downfall of the Shogunate but with the red sun superimposed over the actual design, which was simply three horizontal white/black/white stripes. The upper-left flag was a naval ensign used for vice-admirals specifically in the late-19th century.

Has CK3 any "realism" mods yet? I think they use the same engine so i want to know in how many years it wil be playable. Not related but yesterday i found my best friend who i used to play Darkest Hour with, we would spend the entire weekend playing lan.

I will not pre-order this.

Same here!

I've got just about every Paradox developed game - got EU1 when it came out. Yet have hardly enjoyed any of them since around EU3 /HOI2. Possibly even preferred V1 to V2. It was a mess, but a manageable mess where you could see your inputs and outputs and how it added up. Yet still, every game they bring out, soon after release, Paradox Mind-Control kicks on and I click on that Buy button. Then get bored with it a few hours later.

After all these years, I think the novelty of a pretty map hiding a spreadsheet with thousands of modifiers that make no sense hasd worn off. "+10 those with same religion +20 to all democracies" as if all religions and all democracies love each other. Paying money to stabilise your nation, changing tax rates 5 times a day... if only it were that easy in real life. Do some people really think these games are realistic and not total fantasy? More than bored of Paradox making the same game again and again with a different veneer over the spreadsheet.

So yes, I will almost certainly buy it at some point.

I will probably end up getting this at release. I will probably also play for only a bit then stop disappointed. The grand strategy market needs more competitors.

Amen to that.

Personally I'm pretty sure that I'll play a lot of this game on release tho. Already thinking about various campaigns that I might go for. (And waiting for 7 weeks is suffering. Already checking the Paradox forum and the Reddit board for the game daily for new tidbits of information and for various discussions about the game.)

FoG: Kingdoms, Grey Eminence, and a few more games are trying to cut into the market. We'll see how it goes.

you forgot axioms innit
Not sure Axioms would qualify. You *could* mod it to be a historical grand strategy game but it leans pretty hard into magic.

If you come across anything noteworthy you should post it here. I've started reading/watching more documentaries:

To anyone interested, it's on the Russo-Japanese war and it does have English subtitles.

What are you going to play as first btw, Delterius?

Having done some thinking, I guess I might actually discard my original idea of playing Japan first and go for Lanfang instead since it has all the aspects that make playing Japan attractive to me, but it's smaller and hence easier to manage as a first time player.

Brazil. In Vicky2 the only way to make it viable was to colonize Nigeria (HPM). I haven't seen the mineral potentials in Vicky3's south america yet, but I'm guessing the country will have good iron reserves, massive rubber potential, poor coal reserves, and that hydropower will be a key tech, as it historically was, once they overhaul the way electricity works. Plus, I wanna maximize my favorite countries eventually, so playing one of them early should offer a nice contrast for once I actually understand the game. And I don't feel like starting as Austria, Spain or Turkey.

How do you feel about the lack of implementation for the Carlist War(s) on release?
It's a shame. What is the point of playing Spain if you aren't a post-apocalyptic 1800s mad max contest for the funky throne? It wouldn't be the same thing to LiBeRaTe Naples and Brussels only for them to join a *relatively stable* country.

Map of the various states (from the leak, so it might be tweaked by the time of release):
