How do you guys manage to make Energy weapons work? I made a character with these stats:

6 Str
8 Dex
3 Agi
5 Con
8 Per
3 Will
7 Int

The problem here is that it feels like I'm spreading myself too thin because I lack the sufficient Dex to use Energy weapons well without wasting all my AP on a single shot / 2 shots with a Laser (this will fix itself later if I keep investing Dex every 4 levels, but it will take a long time) and I feel that the 7 Int is sorta needed for the Electronics crafting Feats, but OTOH normal Mechanic guns seem to get better crafting Feats. The basic Laser weapon does pretty crappy damage and the Plasma gun is a hog for AP. I'm just not sure what I should go for with Energy weapons. They just seem inferior to normal guns.

You can later craft a electronic energy weapon, during alpha it was pretty OP and styg needed to nerf it (damn you styg), still quite good, does jump from enemy to enemy and has a chance to stun them.

Ye Ye Fargboy, tell me how good you are at killing 3 sentry bots on hard difficulty as a stealth/crossbow character with no nades or utility left and closest vent shaft 3 turns away. (assuming I will resist every single stun/flash for said 3 turns)
There should be multiple exits from that level.

I guess I can also just go full Ultima and keep a notebook+pen handy... But it would be nice if I had an in-game way of tracking it (without resorting to popamole autologs). Keeping notes in an in-game wristwatch or something. Immersion, yo

And more comments for Styg:
would it be possible to make out-of-combat walking speed match that of in-combat? It would be faster that way.
I understand it could mess up the whole "action time" of the various activities. Like, putting on a bandage while around enemy patrols.
So, why not make an option with which you can speed up "out of combat" things? And it would apply to everything, and to all NPCs - walking speed, actions... And then, map it to a single "Fast forward" hotkey, that you can switch on and off. Would it be hard to implement?

Also, is there any kind of in-game map system I'm missing out on? Maybe just generic maps, no auto-tracking?

But, to balance my bitching, here are my impressions so far: The game is more enjoyable & addictive than I imagined! Rolled a generic well-meaning guy specializing in light firearms, psi attacks and fast movement. Throwing molotovs at rathound packs is a joy. Love the "on-fire" effect. Surprised you managed to make single-character TB combat engaging.

If you mean the one that does Electric damage, then yeah, but it has a base 30AP per shot. :negative:

Broken elevator can't be fixed since I don't have enough mech skill and stairway is blocked by rocks that I can't break through. I wouldn't bother asking if there were other ways to do it.

Are there any cheats or console commands? I'm pretty much stuck with 3 sentry bots camping the only exit from the level I'm in (idk why they camp it, since I didn't engage them before, might be a bug)

You don't necessarily need to kill them. Shoot one from a long distance (you don't need to hit it), then run around a corner and lead them away from the door, staying out of sight until you can either re-enter stealth or simply circle back around to the exit.

Someone's been playing too many console RPGs with detailed area maps and GPS markers, no need for notes, fast travel, and mounts. Go back 2 Skyrim :troll:

Your build is almost proper - with 3 con and 10 dex it would've worked great. And energo weapons are all about proper feat stacking - weapon upgrades for bonus crit damage + practical physicist + critical power. And everything that gives you more crit chance, obviously. Once there is a proper multiplication going on, plasma & electro crits shred through everything.

Ok, this is stupid. my lvl 6 guy has 40% hit chance vs Dogs that are with Lunatics. That is with Maxed crossbow(accuracy version) and perception 8.

Check your weapon durability. Hit % doesn't seem right.

The basic rule I follow is to allocate points based on the feats you want to get and then invest the rest of the points in the most useful attributes.

If you feel you're spreading yourself too thin and the build works then it's just a feeling, if it doesn't then you're right.

I guess I'll have to clarify, they are right above the hatch, like right on it, literally. I didn't engage them prior to that, so I have no idea why they are camping me in the first place. But I can't fight 3 sentry bots at point blank range with no utility and no escape route. Hence why i was asking for cheats and such.

Clustering illusion is probably the best way to quickly demonstrate to people why they often experience seemingly mashed-together hills and valleys of successes and failures.
If you look closely at that chart of random dots you can clearly see an image of the Virgin Mary eating a burrito.
No you are wrong, i can clearly see the face of Vault Dweller smiling. Or is it Cleve... ?

You mean this hatch?

Not pictured: The security camera you most likely didn't deal with before going down the hatch, which alerted all the bots. Normally cameras reset after you've been out of a sight for a while and the enemies return to their patrols, but zoning might cause peculiar behavior. You can't get too cute when bypassing enemies and defenses, or it can come back to bite you in the ass.

As for why they're camping you, all enemies do this. If you "flee" offscreen, they will sit there until Jesus Christ returns from Heaven waiting for you to come back. This is done to prevent cheesing, I think, and in my opinion it can be problematic even for people who aren't cheesing, but it is what it is.

There is another way out of level 3, a breach into the caves system. Try going that way instead. I don't recall if you can fully escape that way, but it's worth a try.

That's what I was going for. Stacking all the crit and crit damage. Seems to be the way to build your dood if you are using Pistols. I guess I could've gone for less con. I'll put the build in the backburner for now and try a slightly different variant of the build.

Eh, that's just the thing. It was working fine until I started using Energy weapons. I'm gonna reroll a new character and try to go for normal Pistols. It's not an awful build but it will take a bit longer for it to get rolling. I'm just enjoying the game by trying out different builds and trying to make the most optimal character I possibly can.

Any suggestions on dealing with Burrowers? I went with a melee/crossbow build and they're a pain in the ass to deal with.

It's a shame I did my crossbow/stealth/traps playthrough prior to the noise system... I'm assuming you can now lay out a bunch of traps, toss some junky grenade off to the side/fire a shot at some random thing, then enemies come running to their deaths?

Yes, don't try to fight them until you get an energy shield. Also, melee/crossbow might be stretching yourself too thin, especially in the beginning. It's best to choose one combat skill early on, maybe also Traps and Throwing, unless you're going full psi. It's your choice, obviously.

Once you have a shield (might need to be low/medium freq.), they're a piece of piss because the poison spines won't penetrate.

Tutorial:
  1. If you select to begin tutorial and after the initial dialog is complete, if you open either of the desks or file cabinet you immediately enter combat with Vencel. If you outrun him, and make into the storage room, the door closes behind you; you wait a few turns, combat ends and you are able to interact with the intercom as if nothing happened.
  2. When speaking to Vencel on the intercom if you select the dialog option, "Hey, Vencel, what weapons should I use against bots?" Please remove the comma after "Hey".
  3. Vencel's answer to the dialog option listed above, you should replace ain't with aren't.

It was good. Dog did come into melee and I was hit at same time by Knee shot and Cryostasis but none of that says it reduces accuracy. Anyways, both groups kill me in 1-2 rounds. it is crazy. I even used combat drugs but still had no chance.

Why are people so butthurt about the speed? It's a brisk walking speed. Do you really need to sprint everywhere? Hardly anyone complained about this in Early Access.

Anything as far as changes in balance or new items/skills?

Since the last alpha? There are so many balance changes I don't even remember half of them. On the item side you've got lots of new unique weapons, 5mm silencers for crafting and new high level bio/chem crafting stuff - medicine, poisons, acids. As for skills, there's a bunch of new feats for psi and crossbows plus 9 new psi abilities.

It's a shame I did my crossbow/stealth/traps playthrough prior to the noise system... I'm assuming you can now lay out a bunch of traps, toss some junky grenade off to the side/fire a shot at some random thing, then enemies come running to their deaths?
Yes you can! It's hilarious :D
