Let's hope all the backers come to their senses and donate to Grimoire instead.

Is Grimoire for real? I.E. it's not scam/parody/imagination of a crazy person?
One could ask the same question regarding "old-skool rpg" Shaker. Also you think all the youtube gameplay videos are an elaborate hoax ?

Then why isn't it getting funded? Only 3600$ so far? Why aren't old school crpg fans all over it? Nobody kickstarted a first person crpg in the style of M&M and Wizardry.

It actually goes beyond the Codex, at least back to the Usenet days. But I'm afraid I'm not too well-versed in the lore surrounding Cleve myself.

Well thx anyway. Do you at least know if he really was a Sir Tech employee? And is his kickstarter for real (give your opinion on it)? Cause I want to donate, and I'm a poor fag, so I don't want to throw money away. The video is hilarious, but it doesn't really give me confidence that it's something serious...

No, I do not. I actually wrote Robert Sirotek a few days ago, and he said he'd get back to me, but has since disappeared. I'm afraid the "Why did SirTech go bankrupt?" thread must've scared him off. :D

And is his kickstarter for real (give your opinion on it)?

No idea. It's a mystery to me too.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire
Basically I am new to the Cleve scene as well, maybe not why I am bitter and jaded yet. The crux of people's issues seem to be racist, homophobic rants, personal threats, outlandish claims, and promises about the delivery date of Grimioire. Cleve's side of it was more or less he did it as a hobby spending his won money and noone seemed like they cared one way or another just argued with him. When he came back here and was telling old Sir-Tech stories, people got interested and wanted to play. This in turn motivated him and he started taking the game very seriously, getting his friend and associate Michael Shamgar as well as contract artists to help polish the game up and add extras for people who pledge.

The people who know of him are either very skeptical of him because of past claims or just don't like him for what he has said or his views. The Flexible Funding option with no chance of refund makes them think they will get taken for a ride again. So it's a question of trust and can you believe in a serious Cleve this time around.

This is my limited understanding and could probably be much better addressed by someone more in the know. Personally I think he is a socially awkward A-type who has rubbed many people the wrong way but is also a creative genius. Even people who dislike him have a hard time bashing his game. They just question if it is real or not or if it is real will he get wrapped up in perfection ism and delay it further. I think as an 50 year old man who has been working over 30 years in various industries, he knows how and when to be serious and I think the game will ship when he says. Although my opinion doesn't mean anything in the big picture, it is just what I believe.

Take it for what you will and I hope any choice you make on the matter is something that you are fine with in the end. There is a ton out there for searching so you should be able to weigh things and make an informed decision.

Lack of media exposure ?
Lack of known names behind project ?
Indiegogo vs. Kickstarter ?
The funding model used ?

He was a contractor for Sir-Tech, and as such never appear on any credits. He does have a in-game cameo in JA2.

So what is this NPC in JA2 that pays homage to Cleve?

oh lord Mr. Blakemore sounds like just the kind of man who would work on a game for 17 years by himself.

I, myself, if the assertions are true, plan to play this game in the final days of my life (600 hours of gameplay wtf?!) and die completing it...but not before then. I want to die immersed in work of sheer madness.

edit: a question though...does it have romanceable npc's? :troll:

I guess that most people who are interested in the game have already played the beta by now. The game has been "nearly done" for years now. I don't know how long it has been now, but it must have been many years ago that Corwin said that the game was basically ready for release.

Can beta still be found and played?

Found, yes. Played? Depends on your system. "This game will run under DOS, Windows 3.1 or Win '95. There seem to be some problems under windows '95 with MIDI playback in this beta version." So, Win95 is a bit modern, so if you can accomodate...

I uploaded it here for you unwashed peasants. It's only 12MB. Download, play and doubt Cleve's brilliance no more, ye of little faith.

PM for link after the Geystapo arrives (is this even piracy?).
