Yet often a statement of fact.

Many codexers are nolstalgia fags, and will blindly hate on any spiritual successor or newer entry in a franchise. In this case it may be justified, but sometimes it's not.
Yeah, because god forbid someone not liking what you like. Fuck off.

Also, why the fuck should you care what others think? Are you that insecure about liking a game that you get little shivers whenever someone says he/she doesn't like that game? Grow up.

Also, like aweigh said, give me proof of someone blindingly hating a game. Until then you are full of shit.

So what's the closest modern equivalent to Thief? I'm in the mood for a good stealth game.

I thought Safav Hamon was entertaining until he adopted "nostalgia fag" as his battle cry. It's such an overused and meaningless meme that it demeans any inherent humor one might find in his ramblings. You can do better than this, Safav! We believe in you! Like that dialog check nonsense you whipped out of your ass: that shit was funny and new.

What you're doing here is tired and trite and, more importantly, unfunny specifically because it's what lesser men have resorted to when they've lost. It's funny to laugh at the retard, but it's not funny to laugh at the retard; know what I mean?

TLDR I expected something funnier from Safav than the use of a meme that everybody else uses when they've run out of arguments.

Agreed, Safav always seemed to be on the correct trajectory to becoming a memorial Codex villain but a topic like this is only going to have him disappear in the sea of lesser shitposters and it's a shame to see all the previous work come off as a fluke if this is the next step in keeping fresh.

Do not play/buy Thief 4. The only fucking First Person game where you can't jump.

I bought this pile of crap on sale and I'm still regretting wasted money. It's a retarded mix of Dishonored and Deus Ex: Human Revolution with Brasilian telenovela level of writing and shitty optimization.

Dark Mod.
The 2 new Hitman games.

The hitman series is a different kind of stealth. If one wants a more thief-like experience, try the two styx games, or the dishonored games in stealth mode and in a "no powers" run. And of course the darkmod.

Hitman series always struck me as games that were a single step removed from being "action puzzles" of sorts because you're essentially fighting the level itself by navigating it however you see fit. Yeah, stealth is the big idea in Hitman, but you don't really have to adhere to it because Agent 47 has violence as a viable solution to his problem. Garrett less so.

I just started playing Styx: SoD and it's very good so far.

It feels like a spiritual successor to Thief, but with its own unique flavor.

Oh hell yeah, it's amazing how VR headsets are able to fix broken AI, atrocious sound mixing and crap level design these days.

The game is an irredeemable piece of shit. Truly exemplifies everything wrong with Square Enix reboots.

TL:DR - Kinda shite but if you've exhausted all options, pirate it.
It's literally what you'd expect. Streamlined to fuck level design, especially in the latter half but, there's a few good missions in there, and I enjoyed the way the hub area worked.
Also the custom difficulty options to not make it piss-easy.
Time waster of a game but if you're out of options, worth a pirate.

Obviously doesn't touch the first game (yet to play the second) but you know that already.
The second half is utter shite but there was a decent bank mission included with dlc.

I remember when I thought that Gollum might end up being a decent Thief-like game.

I was so innocent six months ago.

You're not entirely wrong, the bank DLC is legit probably the best level and the one time where you're let loose in a semi-sprawling environment and are free to fuck around with the mechanics (warts and all.) However, you haven't played Thief 2 and the problem is that Thief 2 also has a bank level. It's one of the best levels in a game with a lot of very, very good levels and it shits all over Thief 2014's bank (which is very obviously a homage of sorts to it.) Ditto the Moira Asylum level, which is probably the best level in the actual base game, but it's unfortunately a pale imitation of Deadly Shadows' Shalebridge Cradle which (since you haven't played Thief 2 I'm gonna assume you haven't played Deadly Shadows either) is a level so goddamn good it makes up for a lot of Deadly Shadows' faults. And Moira Asylum just isn't anywhere near as good.

If you had to reimagined the story of real Thief 4 after the events of Deadly shadows, how would you do it?

The Thi4fs Row it would have been if released in 2024 instead of 2014...
