"SWING BROTHER, SWING!"

These speedruns are pretty awesome, but rogston is the master when Expert speedruns are concerned. This guy is a machine.

These photos look great, now I'm tempted to make a similar building entrance for my next fan mission, heheh.

Good luck with it man, I don't have any of the Thief games anymore, but I'd download dat mod if I did.

Here's some extra inspiration for ye, I'm starting to think the whole series is actually set there.

The videos of Thief 1 in this thread look better than my memories of Thief 2.... I mean, better textures and all. Am I hallucinating?

I played Thief 3 and Deus Ex : Invisible War around the same time, and knew that the world had changed irreversibly for the worse. The deleterious effects of consolization were immediately and dangerously apparent, because, like Mother Russia says, Thief 3 was shit. And Invisible War was a pile of wank. The only things that really made them shit and wank were those tiny, laughable, closed-in environments. They detracted so much from every new gameplay element and graphical advance that, even if the games had been good in terms of story or interaction, the result would still have been a large net minus. If there's one thing I can't stand in games, it's outdoors corridors.

I can already see retards using those videos as an argument for "durrr you can sword your way through in original Thief games too!1!"

Yeah well if you spend months replaying the game then you will, retard. Not on your first playthrough on proper difficulty.

While Thief 3 leaves very much to be desired, mainly in the terms of easier and more limited gameplay because of consoletardation of certain elements, some questionable missions and things like Kurshoks and crushandkillandcrush, calling it 'shit', like, Oblivion 'shit' as suggested is just being edgy throwing edgy one-liners.

Only if you don't play it at the highest difficulty, which is the only proper way to play Thief. That said, getting in sword fights with more then one guard was occasionally entertaining.

Sure looks thief-ish.

I dont remember a single location in any thief game that would be even half as bright as this screen. Even the fucking fully lit mechanist cathedrals weren't so glowy.

"Hey guys, these statues from the old Thief games look pretty stylish. Let's put them in random locations to make them look more cool and thiefy."

Also apparently the style of architecture and clothing is now more late 19th century like.

Waiting for dumbed down interactivity and less creativity in the new game. Oh and sneaking in well lit areas will be "fun".

What's with this trend of every. single. decent franchise getting raped and, well, dishonored, to a point beyond recognition? They are doing something different altogether, but not entirely enough, it has to be a fucking retcon / reboot / you name it. Or is the process of inventing a new title, or protagonist, so crippling to their feeble minds they cannot move around it?

It's almost like those conspiracies and theories to unmake the world/universe by destroying its pillars/towers/symbols that make up for the foundations one by one and then reshape it into dystopian twisted reality.

EDIT:
Also apparently the style of architecture and clothing is now more late 19th century like.

Well, Dishonored was such a success because it was (relatively) original, so I bet we can achieve the exact same success and make the lightning strike the same place by ripping everything from it that made it unique! What can possibly go wrong?

The funny thing is that with the retcon, newshit Garrett will probably have nothing in common with the old Garrett other than the name. So they could as well have used a different character, which would have avoided Thief fanboy butthurt about him being so different from old Garrett and which the new kids wouldn't have cared a single bit about cause they've never heard of Garrett before anyway.

Heck, they could've made that little girl from TDS's outro the new main character. The outro implies that Garrett's going to take her on as apprentice, and you could easily explain the more modern look of the game because 20 years have passed between her becoming Garrett's apprentice and the beginning of Thief 4.

But no, they have to go and shit upon the established lore instead :x

Its most likely a converted Keeper compound and the owner is a rogue keeper.

Meeting with the Brothel owner:
"Back in my day, instead of spiriting away orphans we would seek out transvestites for the order.
No one would notice them going missing."

So the devs are actually catering to the Codex.
Nobody would notice them missing.
Except young Garrett who would go investigate, find the Keepers and then be educated by them to become a Keeper too.

Now he regularly does tranny-stealing missions and he just loves his job.
He's not in it for the money. He's in it for the challenge.
And the trannies.

Jesus. I had never played the Thief Gold levels since I only owned Thief vanilla until recently (STEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM). That looks like a hell of a map.

Excactly. I just don't see the point in rebooting Garret like this.

There are people who don't care about the lore or the previous games. They just want to say: "I'm so hardcore and oldschool man! I'm playing the latest game in this classic franchise man! I'm as oldschool as the guys who played Thief 1 and 2."

And T3's ending delivered the perfect opportunity for a new character, while keeping Garrett as her mentor.
You could've had Garrett stay in the game as an NPC, while making the new character into a more assassiny type or whatever without changing the old Garrett. Continuity would have been preserved, and everyone would've been happy.

But noooooooooooooo

They could play latest game in classing franchise with different charater. I don't really understand this fad for reboots at all. Some people who played originals probably don't play games anymore, others will be pissed at the "dumbing down", some people will probably try it out of nostalgia. I guess reviving old franchises gives bonus media buzz points.
