Allrighty. Last time Kefka made a promise but our heroes laughed at the clown and went to bed.

Tune up with "The Empire Theme" for the beginning part of this update: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbldjzobkPY

Bum and question: Will you only focus on the main story, or will you complete the optional sidequests and such?

As Locue/Andyman started out with the noble goal of 100% completion of FF7, I aim for same. Not sure about Paladin Shield and Colosseum but at the very least I'll get all the dragons, doom weapon, all characters and all the sidequests in World of Ruin.
Oh you gotta do Colosseum and get all the prizes. That includes every single elixir.

edit: I just realized why I like the GBA version better. The names aren't LIKE THIS. EDGAR: I think KEFKA is a little sandy, eh, LOCKE? That crap annoyed me as a kid too.

Yeah, I once changed their names into Edgar and Locke but that didn't really help since GANON, GESTAHL and KEFKA still remained... as did ALL THE OTHER NPC'S THAT YOU CAN'T JOIN. It is pretty annoying :x

Onwards riding our mighty chocobo's of victory!

finalfantasyiiiuv110000f.jpg

Riding chocoboes! EXTREME 3D!

finalfantasyiiiuv110000d.jpg

Ominous cave.
But let's take a look at Edgar before delving into the deeps.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000k.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000w.jpg

Every character has a specialty, a gimmick one could call them except they are often quite necessary. Terra can cast magic, Locke can steal stuff - sometimes very good stuff and Edgar can use tools. He has Autocrossbow to start with and I bought Noise and Bio blasters from Figaro Castle.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000u.jpg

Cave entrance, guarded by a soldier from Figaro.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000c.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000k.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000f.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000v.jpg

That's something qutie clever - it's a way to tell the player where to go without actually telling him, since it's the King explaining it to the soldier, to be relayed to his advisors back in Figaro. Though how will the soldier enter Figaro which is now under sand?

finalfantasyiiiuv110000c.jpg

Healing both HP & MP.

finalfantasyiiiuv110001h.jpg

Notice the ominous entrance behind the pool. We shall return.
Next 3 screens are Edgar in action:

finalfantasyiiiuv110001.jpg

Noiseblaster is more like a flashbang, it's flash and noise. It works on almost all mobs, turning them around and forcing them to use their special abilities and attacks on their allies.

finalfantasyiiiuv110001m.jpg

Bioblaster. Does some damage and poisons the enemy. Unfortunately, the poison damage is ridiculously low and many monsters are either immune or worse, absorb it.

finalfantasyiiiuv110001z.jpg

Autocrossbow is very powerful at the beginning - hitting every mob and doing considerable damage.

Quite an effective tactic is to use Noiseblaster to confuse the enemies, then Bioblaster to poison them - because this does not remove their confusion, the way normal attacks do and then finish them off with autocrossbow and a concentrated attack from other party members. Unfortunately, most of the game is so easy that such tactics are not warranted.

finalfantasyiiiuv110001d.jpg

Well, one group manages to strike our back, though their attacks are harmless.

finalfantasyiiiuv110001o.jpg

Exit looms!

finalfantasyiiiuv110001b.jpg

The town of South Figaro. Has the Empire already marched to this quaint place? Or are they still loyal to their king?

Allrighty, from the fires of what is DA:O impression thread, back to the sweet bosom of Final Faggotry.

SOUTH FIGARO!

Funfact: nobody reacts to the fact that their king is walking around.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000.jpg

Nice little town.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000e.jpg

Yup, as they said in Figaro Castle, they ship all the good stuff here.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000.jpg

Thanks!

Then, as we enter the relic-shop, we get a little tutorial:

finalfantasyiiiuv110000y.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000w.jpg

Simple. That's one fun layer on the game, since you will eventually have lots and lots of relics so balancing who uses what on any occasion is important.

Just asking: is the gba's remake version good? or is the one you playing better?

Someone knows what are the differences in each one?

The GBA-version has fixed some translation issues so some names are different. If you want to play on SNES-emulator, you can either play the USA FF3 release (which I'm playing) or the translated Jap FF6-version. GBA and PSX-versions have extra cinematics and that's it AFAIK.

Here we are. As is typical of the many mountains we'll cross in FF6, they are a combination of outside and inside areas:

finalfantasyiiiuv110000v.jpg

Yes, dark caves, filled with dark creatures.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000y.jpg

More mountain side. Eh, what's that dark shadow up there?

finalfantasyiiiuv110000h.jpg

There it goes again!

finalfantasyiiiuv110000g.jpg

Save spot! You can only use sleeping bags and tents at a savespot so they usually mean that the end of the dungeon is near. Some long ones have several spots but we ain't that far in the game yet.

finalfantasyiiiuv110000t.jpg

Suspicious looking charater there...

finalfantasyiiiuv110000s.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110000b.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110001d.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110001.jpg

Boss fight time! He's pretty easy. First we kill the cave bears protecting him and then deal enough damage so he uses his wind-attack. Terra's cure spell comes handy here, especially since with L & R buttons you can make it affect the whole party.

finalfantasyiiiuv110001p.jpg

finalfantasyiiiuv110005c.jpg

Yeah, Sabin is badass. Or not really. His specialty is the Blitz which basically means button-comboes you have to press in correct order and quickly enough to execute one of the possible special attacks. You can go through the game by only using the first one, though some of the later ones do group-attacks so they are nice.

finalfantasyiiiuv110005f.jpg

We equip him with a buckler.

finalfantasyiiiuv110005tf.jpg

Finally getting out of this stupid mountain.

I don't know about the GBA version but the PSX one sucks big time. I'd say your best option is the translated Jap version for snes.

Perception: all enemies in final fantasy VI appear big, even if the moment before the fight were midgets as well, funny with certain characters like Kekfa.
Also, the evil disciple is so generic that he even wears the generic kung-fu shirtless costume XD

Yeah but the kungfu guy in FF4 couldn't FIRE LASER BEAMS.

Of course, firing laser beams is kind of redundant in a game where anyone can make your enemies burst into flame anyways, but laser beams are just so much more stylish.

IT'S NOT LAZER, IT'S AURA BEAM!

Which is funny since in Chrono Trigger Aura is healing magic. Or then I'm confused and remember wrong. Just wait folks, there's a chainsaw in this game as well. How awesome is that?

Can you cut off your hand and replace it with the chainsaw?

If no: not that awesome.

If yes: groovy.
