The first Just Cause isn't really worth getting.

What he said. The controls ported horribly.

Yeah I played around with the demo a bit. It's okay but the controls were pretty awkward. If it's dirt cheap I'll get it but my guess is they'll just put JC2 on sale again and ignore the first.

The Batman game is really damn good if you don't mind the SecuROM and GFWL.

Supreme Commander 2 has the best (No contest) skirmish AI of an RTS game. If you like comp stomping and relatively large battles, that's not bad. Campaign sucks, but the skirmishes are good.

Just Cause 2 as said many times is great. Might be worth picking up dirt cheap if you plan on upgrading during the year or so. Would be a good eyecandy game for running on upgraded machine.

Uhhh, what else. Kane & Lynch 2 is super popamole cover shooter with not very good AI and not terribly good story, and is also 4-5 hours long. I got it for $5 during the winter sale and felt it was alright though, the weird youtube effect they go for is kinda fun but depends on how much you can stand cover shooters.

Deus Ex bundle will probably come up and is good.

Hitman bundle might come up and is good.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is surprisingly good if you like actiony puzzley platformery games with secrets and scores. I'd recommend that for cheap easily. Was never a big fan of regular Tomb Raider games but this was nice since it wasn't much like them.

Thief Deadly Shadows is good.

There you have it. Quite a few pretty good games.

Yeah it's pretty much just a case of using Steam for so long you eventually just hit the repeat sales. Already have Deus Ex 1 and Thief: DS. Hitman games are okay -- I played whatever the one is where you go to Moscow. Nothing I'd really want to play again. If GoL hits 75% off I'll be happy.

Just Cause 2 is p cool. I never played the first one, but from what I've read it isn't as over-the-top like the sequel, which makes it inferior since the whole point of the game is to blow shit up in the craziest ways possible. For example, the grapple has to be accessed like a regular weapon, whereas in JC2 there's a specific grappling shortcut. The only thing missing from the sequel is parasailing.

So, you guys recommend Just Cause 2 but not the first one? Would anything be missed?

After poking around a lot I'd say there's pretty much zero reason to buy JC1 provided you have Win 7 and a DX10 card capable of playing JC2. It's superior in every aspect and there isn't much of a story.

They should've called Fallout 3 something like that. Fallout: Degeneration or something similar would work.

Supreme Commander 2 today -- no big surprise. Expect the last three days to be Hitman, TR, and Deus Ex.

Paradox finally added the last two Majesty 2 expansions on Steam -- in conjunction the base Majesty 2 and the Kingmaker expansion are on sale for $4 and $2, respectively.

Bought Majesty 2. Never played the first one, but heard lots of great things about it. I was pretty disappointed with this game. Novel idea; bad executions is pretty much what comes to mind. Most of the time the AI acts fucktarded and I feel like that if I had direct control over the units the game would be far, far easier than what it is. Dumb stuff like rat sewers and graveyards make the game tedious and my town a constant battle zone. I just build a few towers to negate them, but why can't I send my heroes to clear out / destroy the sewers? The constant waves of enemies is kind of tedious as well. All it does is slow progress, but it doesn't really stop it. The game isn't hard.. it just throws lots of shit at you to slow you down, but you still inevitably win. At least that's what it felt like to me. Every single unique design idea didn't feel like it added anything to the game.
Oh, and the units. I heard that all the different units had their own unique personalities in the first game. Warriors would stand guard in town, thieves would steal crap, archers would scout the area etc. but in this game it felt like everyone just kind of patrolled around their guild / home. Archers were more prone to take the exploration tasks and thieves would be quick to escape battle, but beyond that I saw no other difference between the units.

There are just so many designs flaws in this game that make me go why? I was also mislead by the title: Fantasy Kingdom Sim. This game is as much of a sim as C&C. Taking direct control from my units doesn't suddenly make this game a sim. Bah. It's still good for the price, but I wouldn't pay a cent more.

Main reason why 2 is shit. The graveyard also, there's less incentive to keep your heroes alive because it's so easy to just resurrect them again. You should have bought the first one.

I was actually waiting for a good sale on it but the more I uncover the more it looks like your assessment is dead on. The premise is good but the execution is terrible. Apparently in the original the AI was somewhat better and had the unique personality traits you mention but all of that is missing in the sequel. That coupled with no randomization means completing a mission is just a matter of trial and error/knowing where the monster lairs are and how to best handle them. Sadly, even at $4 I'm still on the fence because I fear I will just be more frustrated than entertained.

The only difficulty in this game is coming up with the best build order at the beginning of a mission to fend off the first waves of enemies without losing. After that it's just a slow build up to your inevitable victory.

I've ranted about it elsewhere on the Codex, but Majesty 1 Gold is still the best. Majesty 2 isn't a particularly bad game, but the strategy (Such that it was) in the original didn't really carry over. Majesty 2 is more about taking out certain lairs at certain times, and less about babysitting your heroes.

Still, at $4 Majesty 2's probably worth dicking with. But if/when Majesty 1 shows up on sale again, if 2 had you at all interested give the first a go.

75% off darksiders right now, is it any good?

Console trash. But you never know - just the advertsing makes it a little more grimdark looking than it really is.

Heard it was a mix of God of War and Zelda, in that there are button mashing combat bits and puzzle dungeons. Sounded worth a go at $10 which is what I grabbed it for during the winter sale I think, but I still haven't gotten around to playing it.

Yeah it's basically a console hack-n-slash with the ability to upgrade abilities/weapons sort of like a Zelda game. The combat is pretty mind-numbing.

Also, damn Metro. Just noticed how many posts you've got on the Steam forums from the Revenge of the Titans forum. YOU'RE MORE OF A STEAM BRO THAN A CODEX BRO, BRO
