I'm very into cock and ball torture
The Dark Eye: Demonicon.

I was hoping for some fap material. Instead. I got crappy action combat, repulsive 3D graphics (the women aren't even pleasing to look at. which is problem since the fucking dialogue screen focuses so much on their stupid faces), and gay story about some siblings that aren't really siblings but were kidnapped from some ritual and are now in love.

I made it half way to either the swamp town or the mining town until I said fuck this I'd rather go watch porn.

I'm sometimes disappointed in a game but rarely pissed off. That one comes to mind as going above and beyond.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Just overall trash from the enemy design to the writing. Also, the in-engine cutscenes and interrupting combat with dialogue/cutscenes to emulate that JRPG trash really ruined it too.

I've heard about wankers playing games for the story, but this...

What's funny is that they are only two time in the whole game where they did bother to make an IG cinematic (desakri vs terendelev and iomade), the rest of the time they were too lazy to do any sort of editing, so we're stuck with a shittier version of reading text.
Doubtlessly the most irritating thing I played in the last few years due the sheer amount of lazyness and incompetence.

Easily Dragon Age: Origins. I don't think I have ever played any other RPG which I started to dislike more and more the longer I played it, yet did not stop playing it until much later.

Might not have been in the best state of mind for it, but I still remember how frustrating the trek through the Deep Roads was and how at one point it literally made me feel like I was wasting my life. Not quite sure why, because quite a few RPGs suffer from overlong combat areas. For some reason it felt worse with DA:O. Some areas were better than others, but the second half of the Brecilian Forest, the Deep Roads, much of Haven with its unending stream of Cultists - and probably more that I can't remember - did overstay their welcome by hours and had almost no content outside of combat. Awful pacing in too many areas.

I eventually came back to Denerim (awful, disappointing town by the way) after having collected the allies and once I arrived at Howe's castle the game essentially threw me into another dungeon grind. Except against human guards instead of Werewolves, Undead or Darkspawn this time. The narrative context for it is there, but at least for my character there were no roleplaying options there and at that point I had very little tolerance left for yet another overlong grind. So I rage-quit and uninstalled it. I don't think I have ever done that with any other game.

I have tried writing on why I did dislike it so much in more detail in other forums, but I'm not sure how successfully. But these are two good articles that I pretty much agree with:

https://www.giantbomb.com/profile/a...-a-slightly-too-long-dragon-age-origi/201946/

https://minddecline.wordpress.com/2...hy-ill-never-beat-the-first-dragon-age-again/

I played Dragon Age to the end, and I felt drained afterwards. I had a pirated version back then and it's been over a decade since I played it... I added most older games I pirated back then to my Steam wishlist nowadays, but whenever I scroll past Dragon Age Origins during a sale and see it costing only 2 bucks... I am tempted for a second, but then I remember how soul-drainingly tedious the game was. How many filler encounters it forced me to wade through.

Back in the day I considered it a good game, probably because we didn't have many other RPGs at the time. The story was competent, there was some choice and consequence, and the good encounters were actually good. But all that filler in-between the good moments... fuck me. It was such a slog. Towards the end of the game, all joy had been sucked out of it.

Ad DA:O:

It could have been a good game if they had had the sense to cut it down to 40 hours or so. But the prolonged combat areas basically made me notice what was wrong with the game more and more.

Yeah, those DAO criticisms keep coming up for good reason maybe 'coz there's an otherwise decent game to enjoy. The Temple of Ashes for one thing was bloated beyond all measure. The point where you're traipsing through the caverns before the gauntlet has probably triggered existential despair in many a man. Then the grueling potential boss fight just after... lol. Many of the other areas and encounters struck a healthier balance but there was also the slog in the Deep Roads, not to mention navigating the Fade.

The most triggered I've been in the recent past has been in response to the programmed refuse Obsidian shat out called "The Outer Worlds" and also witnessing how InXile squandered millions of dollars in order to puke out the odious "Planescape Numenera." Both had the potential to be much better than how they turned out.

I nearly forgot: the final battle segment in Operencia nearly ruined an otherwise really solid game. I tried that battle over and over and over again and couldn't beat it. Gimmicky garbage.

Calling a Divinity: Original Sin reskin 'Baldur's Gate III' is among the most shameless and egregious acts of CRPG necrophilia known to man. Its very existence offends me.

Wrath of the Righteous. It's by no means the worst CRPG I've ever played, but the amount of work obviously put in it only emphasizes how unfun it ended up being. I don't think any game has managed to crush so harshly all the hopes I had placed in them.

Moral of the story: don't read reviews longer than a few sentences, and just go into games semi-blind (that's what I do these days). No expectations, no disappointment!

So true, especially on the codex. Can't tell you how many times I watched a recommended series in the What Are you Watching on TV topic by reviewers gushing about how great a series is then it turns out to be wholly disappointing (Yellowstone) while the smaller, three or four sentence recommendations ie La Peste, were great. I'm sure it's similar with RPGs. Conclusion: many codexers tend to like lot of overrated or middle-of-the-road crap, and are the most likely to be effusive about it in their recommendations. The Dex has taught me so much, and I thank you, my bros.

Overall? Ultima 8. I was too young for the first few, and when I start a new series I like to start at the beginning, so I held off en Ultima until only a few years ago. 1 was simplistic, but defining a genre that didn'n exist, 2 was delightfully bugfuck (when it wasn't making you pull your hair out), 3 was finally getting somewhere solid, 4 was fascinating, 5 gets a million points for teaching that "electronic arts" is a swear (and that the most beautiful word in English is "shipwright"), 6 was the series' peak (not least because it let you have a plate-wearing, halberd-wielding mouse hire a hooker), 7 taught that EA and Scientology are in bed together, 7 part 2 showed that no one in the video game industry knows how to count... None of them were perfect, but they worked. Then 8 threw all that away. You want a darker game? Okay, let's throw away the entire moral core of the series! Let's completely ignore- not corrrupt, like 5, or neglect, like 7, or mirror, like 6, but ignore, all the virtues! Great! The crime-against-humanity controls were the least of its problems.

For spoiling? Daggerfall. You know what Daggerfall had? 3D dungeon maps. Yeah, in was awkward to use, and didn't allow much on screen at once, but the super-advanced tech of 1996 that allowed us to depict a third dimension at all has apparently been lost forever.

For visceral rage? Betrayal in Antara. Krondor gets all the attention, and as annoying as that is, it's fair; it was the better game. But Antara did some neat things (the tavern songs were a wonderful touch), and sheuld be remembered better- save for the CTD at the start of the penultimate chapter. You've finally solve d the mystery, and are going to confront the perpetrators at their castle- only to find it being sacked by pirates! Then... crash. Reinstall the game? Doesn't help. Start a new one? No matter. Reinstall Windows? Same problem. Wait a month until PC Gamer releases a patch on their demo disc to fix tis exact problem, then install it, eager ho finally know how it ends? Ha ha! No resolution for you! Find another copy going for a buck in EB games fourteen years later, and get it running with much moslo tinkering? Okay, THAT will work- but the penultimate chapter is duking it out with generic pirate groups, the last chapter is just a hallway (and literally impossible if you didn'n HAPPEN to bring rope with you), and the ending shows that the real culprit hid himself, and there's nothing you can do but watch and know. For that, I waited over a decade.

this game is fantastic tho

It's garbage

It's fantastic garbage. One of the best shit games I enjoyed playing,up there with Two Worlds

DD was the first RPG I played that felt truly adult (or at least definitely not for children) in some of its subject matter, especially in one of its quests where you had to solve the mystery of who's been pissing in the sacramental wine. It's definitely not a "Can I play, Daddy?" kinda game.

Fallout 3 - A game so bad it made me join the codex.

Before that it would have to be Ultima 8.

Torments: Something something of Numanera

Spent like $300 on the kickstarter, played 17 hours out of pure effort, hated the writing and gameplay. Never got hyped by a cRPG again.

But they made the butt pirate an actual pirate!

Trying to recapture that Wizards and Warriors Poison Beast experience.

Yes, SilentSeeker, Garriott's descent into decadence was evidently mirrored in rl during that period.

Painful to experience it in-game.

Fits the theme in this thread of anger sparked by potential unrealized or thrown foolishly away.

Nobody bothers to get angry about games that just suck altogether.

ATOM RPG - The game itself isn't bad but does have some odd design choices that lead to me getting quite frustrated but nothing quite got on my nerves like being unable to control party members in combat. The final fight took me ages simply because I could not get my companions to either enter the final room or shoot the people I wanted. While this was a feature in classic Fallout there is not a single good reason why it should have been kept for ATOM.

You might be interested in the review by "Ye Old Entertainment". It's 90 minutes long though.
