And then we wonder why the genre is deader than dead. I wonder why don't these retard just move on to filmmaking then. Fuck you, newfag consoletard braindead generation(s).
Eh, it's not just the new generation. Remember J_C and his crusade for Broken Age's lack of puzzles (not to mention the fight I had with him over parser way back then). And if you haven't, go look at that thread about endgame puzzles, I think there were 2 or 3 people other than me who defended them, everyone else was complaining about how puzzles at the end of the game break the flow and are just a nuisance when you're trying to finally get to the ending.

Really?! We are talking adventure games right.... right? They can't really think this way... can they? :negative:

That is my point. I mean, take puzzles from adventure games, and all you are left with is a flash "clicking" game. Nobrainer. "click-anywhere-on-the-screen-to-win". Seriously? Break the flow? Puzzles dictate the flow, if anything, not to mention the fact that many adventure games feature stories/plots so weak that wouldn't really make much sense, entertainment-wise, without the puzzles.

Luckily enough, my faith in humanity is already at 0 Fahrenheit, so even this kind of "news" can't really do any damage. Every night, before sleeping, I kneel by my bed and pray, to whoever might be listening, to let me wakeup to ITZ. Asteroid, nuclear disaster, a new plague, WW3.0, whatever.

Jaesun , or other mods/admins, why aren't there game-specific "stickies", from maybe the most popular threads in this subforum? Right now I'm thinking STASIS and Syberia3, but surely there's other titles whose threads could be sticky-worthy ? I think a limited selection could come handy...

(Just an idea!)

We try not to have too many stickies, and as for STASIS, there is going to be continuing activity on that thread until release day (and even after) so that thread will be always bumped up.

And not many people are all that excited about Syberia III (many people here hated that game). I liked it though, fuck the haters. :)

The head of Daedalic is attacking German magazine Gamestar over Facebook because they refuse to test Anna's Quest:

kTYtsTj.png

tl;dsG version:

- Anna's Quest was developed by 40 Germans in Germany, so a German magazine should test it to show solidarity
- it had a big ad on the title screen of GoG and Steam for a full week, and magazines are still not paying attention
- AQ is currently the only professionally made 2D adventure game world wide, but the magazines do not seem to notice
- most of the AQ devs came from the Deponia team (which you would never know playing both games)

As I was looking for some adventure-related news, hopeful for some upcoming titles to revive the genre a bit (I mean, I'm playing Deponia, The Dig and Indy 4 semi-concurrently), I stumbled upon this article by prestigious website kotaku.

http://kotaku.com/nine-obscure-adventure-games-we-wish-had-sequels-1675347530

"Nine OBSCURE adventure games we wish had sequels".

As it turns out, these titles can now be classified as "obscure".

Not sure if deserving a thread of its own (but if it does, some joke about furries HAS TO BE in the title), so I'll just drop it here. Mods will fix it™. :M

Seems a cute little project, possibly aimed at a younger audience. Personally, I'm quite liking what I see so far. The pixels are sweet and definitively look "old-school". Let's hope the devs manage to wedge a decent story somewhere behind the pixels, and this might turn out to be quite alright.

If you like such oldschool adventure games as Legend of Kyrandia, Kings Quest and Monkey Island, this game will be perfect for you!

fF3dsM3.png

Quest is stylized for old-school point`n`click adventures, like "The Legend of Kyrandia" and "King`s Quest". Complex puzzles and old school pixel graphics. All animations are made by hand, pixel by pixel. No shaders, Motion-blur, bokeh and other stuff. Everything is like it was in good old times.

You play as the Young Fox Lea on a visit to her grandmothers, and with this, the escape of her problematic world and from her own tragic past. She will come across many amazing characters, visit strange places, solve many puzzles all in a beautiful adventure that is inspired by the greats such as The Legend of Kyrandia, Monkey Island and Kings Quest

(sic.)

Good game, took me 7 hours and got stuck a few times. It's not as simple as the MO "find the contradiction" would indicate, although they achieve this partially by "cheating" (heavily consolized interface makes it hard to navigate anything, impossible to see all the collected information on one or even on two or three screens, certain viable contradictions are not acknowledged). Actors in particular are perhaps slightly too good for the story they're telling; only the protagonist is sufficiently "bad" and gives a bit of that charming retro atmosphere. Well, Paul Darrow is also hammy as usual, but he does it very professionally. The ending is also a bit rushed; but otherwise it's a fine FMV adventure, and better than 90% of the other stuff currently being shoveled onto the market.

Re: Anna's Quest

Wow, 40 people to do what, a 5 hr long adventure game, and he dares compare it to Deponia, not to mention the "weltweit" bit which made me lol.

To be honest though, that actually makes me sad, if anything. :(

Does this count as an adventure game?

Blues And Bullets

Eliot Ness, former leader of the legendary Untouchables, only wished to spend the rest of his life working in his diner and not thinking much of the cesspit of corruption his city, Santa Esperanza, had degenerated into.

Of course things rarely go as planned.

When one day children start to disappear and the police just turns a blind eye to this, Eliot decides to take justice into his own hands and find, by any means necessary, the culprit and bring him to justice, even if it means burning his peaceful life to the ground and getting involved in gunfights with assassins and thugs alike.

Aided by some unexpected characters, the player will control Eliot through the increasingly morbid and decadent scenarios to find the clues needed to solve the cases in the 5 episodes that this season of Blues and Bullets brings.

Key Features:

  • The visual aesthetics of the game and its unique approach to the cinematic narrative are two of the key points that will lead the player to a different and unique experience.
  • Immerse yourself in this black and white adventure with splashes of red that will make the unfolding of the story a delight to your senses.
  • Vibrant Game Mechanics
The player will investigate crime scenes, coming up with his own deductions after collecting and analyzing different clues found by exploring the different scenarios.
  • Advancing through the plot, some powerful characters will not like the player’s progress, resulting in intense shootouts between the hardened detective and mysterious enemies that will challenge the player’s skills.
  • Story and Decisions
The player will interact with dozens of characters of Santa Esperanza while he keeps progressing on the investigation. Every decision he makes will change his perspective on the case and his relationship with the other characters.
  • Witty banter, old school threats, disenchantment with society and love and death walk hand in hand in this dark story where the hope rests solely on your shoulders.

Will you help the city stay afloat or will you sink with it?

GOG Digital Premieres - Call of Cthulhu Adventures

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, a mind-bending duo of Call of Cthulhu adventure classics, premiere digitally right now - DRM-free on GOG.com.

An original horror-adventure duo from Infogrames, (the company well known for their Alone in the Dark series)Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are two of the very few games that get to boast actually taking place within the Call of Cthulhu mythos. With a pedigree like that, you can be sure that you're getting the best of the atmosphere and uncomfortable flavor of a true H.P. Lovecraft story.

Shadow of the Comet (Win + Linux) is the tale of a young British photographer out to capture a one-of-a-kind comet passing over an isolated New England town of Illsmouth. He discovers that the last person to attempt this spent the rest of his life in a high-security lunatic asylum. Soon, he'll also discover why… In Prisoner of Ice (Win + Mac + Linux) an indirect sequel to Shadow of the Comet, you're just another officer aboard the HMS Victoria - a military sub returning from a simple extraction operation. Just another run of the mill job, the target is safe and you're counting down the time till your shore leave. Little do you know, it's also a matter of time until you look straight in the eye of an ancient evil aboard.

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are terrifying 2D adventure games that received critical acclaim for successfully capturing the unique atmosphere of tales like "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Dunwich Horror", "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and, of course, "The Call of Cthulhu". Whether you're a Lovecraft fan, or just searching for the right excuse to discover the legend - these are stories you have to experience.

Heed the call of Cthulhu in Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com!

Yahtzee released a new adventure game, The Consuming Shadow, which is also... a roguelikelike? I never played any of his other adventure games, for the record.

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/theconsumingshadow_specialed_storefront

The Consuming Shadow is a procedural survival horror adventure in which you must explore the land, fight your way through randomly-generated dungeons and try to stay sane in your quest to save the world from the invading Ancients.

Features
  • Roguelike perma-death gameplay
  • 4 playable characters to find and unlock, each with a different play style
  • 6 dungeon types, 10 mission types, and countless random encounters
  • 20 different monsters to discover and fight
  • Learn the 8 magic spells to gain the upper hand
  • Complete the bestiary and gather collectibles to uncover the world's lore

No idea if this has already been mentioned in this thread (I think I remember it from the Kickstarter one), but it certainly looks... interesting.

The release date is September 10.

I've been keeping an eye on that one. Looks really trippy so I think I might enjoy it.
