Use Mass Distortion vs. mega dragon, each one will half his remaining HP.

I don't think it works like that? I remember taking him down in a reasonable amount of time. I doubt my melee was able to go through his assload of HP.

Well, it sure as hell didn't work optimally when I played the DOS version of MM2. Are you sure you defeated the MM2 Mega Dragon and not one from another game?

I believe mega dragon in MM2 is worse than the mega dragons later in the series.

The mega dragon is a unique creature in Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World, and a central part of the history of CRON.

The mega dragon, should it fight the player's party, is practically impossible to defeat: it has an incredible amount of hit points, it can only be harmed by non-elemental magic which fails against it about half the time, and its melee attack eradicates party members thus removing them from the battle for good. It can also knock out all party members in the front row (or up to six targets, in versions of the game that don't use rows) with its energy breath attack, though this can be recovered from.
The only ways of dealing significant damage to the dragon are the Mass Distortion spell, and Implosion (once the dragon's HP has fallen to 2000 or less, thus making Implosion more powerful than Mass Distortion). Even if the player had a full party of clerics with Photon Blades, though, it is very likely that they would not have enough turns to defeat the dragon.
The mega dragon was created in the ninth century to battle King Kalohn. Both itself and Kalohn perished in a battle in the area that thus become the Quagmire of Doom. The player's party are ultimately obliged to save the king by traveling back to the ninth century with the elemental orb and talons that will allow Kalohn to defeat and survive against the dragon.
If the player's party returns to the Quagmire of Doom in the ninth century without the orb and talons, they will witness Kalohn die before the mega dragon turns to fight them.

The mega dragon is a unique monster that appears in The Dragon Caves in Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor. He has the appearance and stats of a red dragon, but uses a ranged fire attack, dealing 16D8 damage, and is immune to fire and body attacks. His attack can break his target's armor.

Notes

  • The "Mega-Dragon" does not actually appear in the game, unless GrayFace's MM7 Patch is installed. A black mega dragon exists in the files with some interesting abilities, but a red dragon with resistances set to 0 is set in The Dragon Caves.

Lol... Heroes has Megadragon King

Ohh, I thought we were talking WoX since Tweed mentioned the Xeen Power Juice.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure some people are mixing up MMXeen dragon with MM2 dragon.

WAY different beasts.

There's a bit of confusion about which Megadragon is which, eg Tweed is talking about the MM5 one, which is actually not that hard. He just needs some patience and luck, the only real danger if you buff properly is his insta-eradicate, IIRC it takes about 6 rounds of bashing him to bring him down, though it took me some save-scumming to do it. MM2 Megadragon is a completely different story, this one would require a LOT more patience (and probably a lot more luck) due to the reasons you mentioned. I know it's mechanically doable and IIRC someone has done it and recorded it, but I never bothered.

How do I level up?

feca08cc164797a42461690611d36bcb.jpg

I googled. It says there's some training grounds? I can't level up on the starting island? I'm playing MM7 through MMmerge.
Check out the houses, you'll find a house specializing in training. You'll see this by the FMV.

How does tanking work?

I have two tanks. But if they get hit as regularly as my squishies, then there's not much reason for the "tanks" to have all that armor class. It'll be wasted.

Is this correct?

There's no front row/back row distinction after Might and Magic 2. Knights are good because they deal damage without spending spell points.

I have a thief in MM7 who's got dark elf magic due to MMmerge (why? she doesn't have a dark elf portrait). I'd like to be able to cast it, but my thief has no spell points. How do I fix it? Is it because of her stats? She's got 14 int.

As the Thief gets his first promotion quest done, it should get some mana.

Other than that, you could edit the Clas HP SP file located in your <game folder>\Data\Tables
you gain access to those tables in merge mod for free or need to extract them like with grayface?

Free access. Or at least I don't recall doing any extracting. My memory can be funny tho.

I'm in Barrows Down maze and every chest that I touch with my thief explodes. The thief is at 4 Perception 4 Disarm Trap, both Expert. What does this game want from me? Any higher level areas I go to, obviously the same thing happens.

You can always come back. That is, set a Lloyd's Beacon or use Town Portal to get out, level up, and return. Or, as I seem to recall, just walk out and go to the closest city, then come back.

I don't know if I'm turning into a popamole retard but I recently replayed World of Xeen and it feels so incredibly dumb and cheesy to use fountains and daily buff spells.
I feel dirty just thinking about Lloyd Beaconing my way to fountains.

If you have a thief you might want to pick up the NPC that gives +8 to disarm and stealing.

I'm playing with this interface and some Quixote dude said he's joining me to go see me slay a dragon in Talalia. I don't want to go there just yet, I'm not nearly done here with other stuff.

For the life of me I can't find where he is in any UI.

What the fuck, where is he?

Bester , Down in the lower right corner, just above your mini-map, there is a little square with a silhouette of a head. Click that, and it will bring up a menu that shows you NPC's that are in your party. In the case of quest escorts, you will sometimes have to click on one to turn in the quest.

You can keep Quixote there until you're ready to do the quest. He won't go anywhere and he doesn't do anything. That quest is important if you have a paladin, though. There will be a quest for your sorcerer promotion where you assemble a golem, and the golem will be in that same interface; you have to click on it to finish the sorcerer promotion quest.

For the merge, you are allowed to put up to 4 NPC's into the NPC interface, and many of them give passive bonuses, like for example, a scholar can identify all items automatically so your sorcerer doesn't have to spend skill points on Identify. The merge allows you to fill all four slots with passive bonus NPC's, but then you wouldn't have room for important quest escorts, so I think it's a good idea to always keep two slots open for the quest NPC's you'll encounter.

That's a nice theory, but in practice his magic resistance makes it more like 5% or something, so it takes ages to cut him down to portion sized dragon steaks.
I defeated the mm2 Mega Dragon, 8 clerics with mass distortion and implosion items when spell points exhausted. Divine intervention for healing. Fair slog, but doable with a tailored party.
