I haven't tried it myself yet, also the author insists on using his mm7patch.dll to avoid FPS drop and who knows what that dll is doing

I don't remember that log being that curved. Huh. Looks better than most AI upscales, but still feels on the same level as Ted Turner's colorization of movies.

Been playing Mandate of Heaven the last few days, and it really sucked me in, almost to my surprise, as I generally have a rough history with blobbers. Part of the breakthrough is that I am using Grayface's mods to turn it almost into an FPS control scheme: Always Run, Mouse-Look, One button QuickSave, Tab enabled turn based mod, etc. So this to me fixes a lot of issues I typically have with blobbers.

But aside from that, the game is just DAMN FUN! The constant loop of gratification, talk to NPCs, get quests and buy shit, go fight stuff in massive dungeons or outdoors, get lootz, level up, get new skills, buy spells, and on and on. The graphics are functional enough, and the world has that magic that old RPGs often had, where you feel like you are really stepping into a grand adventure, with massive world regions, different climates, different cities, an everything in between. Most modern games don't have that feel at all. Also, it has to be said, one of the things that makes the world seem so great is the way the NPC dialogue is written and distributed.

Unlike modern RPGs, where as soon as you go anywhere, NPCs vomit a pile of crap into your ears, including tons of needless exposition, and have exclamation marks over their heads, the dialogue in M&M6 is short and to the point. People tell you exactly what you need to know, and leave flowery prose out of it. It also takes effort to find quests, which are actual goals, and dont lead you around by the nose.

All weapons can have a "+" after them. This plus refers to the bonus to the weapon, both to the chance to hit and damage

If I have a War Hammer = 1-10 damage range
then War Hammer+3 = 4-13 damage range?
or only 1-13 ?

Ok, ran into something in M&M6 that looks like a bug:

My party is Knight - Archer - Cleric - Sorcerer.

The sorcerer has Expert Meditation now.

His points / spellpoints seem to be locked.

Case 1: Ran into 2 barrels of green liquid in a dungeon. Archer drank it, +1 Endurance, +10 hitpoints. Sorcerer drank it, +1 Endurance, no hitpoint change.

Case 2: Equipped +2 Intellect ring and +1 Intellect belt on sorcerer. Intellect goes up on stat screen, spellpoints no change.

Bug or am I missing something?

I suspect that the HP only changes at some endurance values. For example endurance=10-15 +10HP, 15-20 +20HP etc
Exact values: http://www.pottsland.com/mm6/attributes2.shtml

What am I doing wrong?
I cannot play M&M2 in the proper way.
Proper way:
I step onto a new grid field. I press S to search. I turn to North, West, South, East. I check the map where I am. Step onto the next field..etc. ad nauseum.
This is incredibly boring and tiresome.

I mentioned it a few weeks ago, the m&m inspired ttrpg from Julien Pirou is available in English soon. They translated the quickstart guide apparently, which constitues a preview.

I don't derive much enjoyment playing MM1&2 these days. I loved them back when, but the UI is just too clunky and the beginnings are too grindy for me as an old man. Ditto with Wizardries pre-VI (which likely means I'll never actually beat IV), and even my most recent playthrough of VI stalled a few years ago. I know, I know: I'm part of the decline.

I am really enjoying the dungeons in Mandate of Heaven so far. Non-linear, very large (especially by modern standards), tons of gold and loot (when you actually need gold in this game), always some quest or quests related to them, some thematic coherence...

Did you try not doing those things?
Wait a minute!
Is searching good for ONLY after battle? Only to search shiny loot? Or there is a clue or hidden important item somewhere you have to search?
Looking at every corner is a must. For example if you are going to east, you will not notice that there is a dungeon at north.

100% Thievery skill is enough?

You are making the game far clunkier than it really is. The "Search" command in M&M2 is primarily for searching for treasure immediately after battle. Mostly everything is found in the game simply by walking into its square.

The game is full of stuff to find naturally, there's no need to follow this weird advice you've apparently received on the "proper" way to play the game. Map the towns out, explore their dungeons, and then start by mapping the roads between towns. Then start exploring areas around the roads. You'll find stuff all over the place.

[EDIT] The only time (as far as I recall) where facing matters is when there are messages written on walls, as you must face the wall the message is written on to see it.

Facing also matters for seeing things like castles.
Incidentally MM2 is one of the few games in which random encounters are checked when turning.

True, I forgot about the castles. However, they are pretty much all at the ends of roads (so you would come upon them naturally) and their locations are also shown on the paper map that comes with the game.

Is there only one active Lloyds Beacon?
I have 2 sorcerers but it seems the location of spell is overwritten.

What is the usual maximum level for a party in M&M2 ?
M&M6-7-8 I had usually Level 100 party at the end of the game.
M&M3-4-5 I cannot remember.

If you spend a few minutes fighting cuisinarts you can hit the 200's easy.
