Public events encourage teamwork and group play from lvl 1, but in its essence gameplay is still very much the same gather x/kill y grind as in every other MMO.
Well, regular heart quests also promote team-play, because there is no "tagging." As long as you help kill a mob, you get credit. And it's also nice that you are not forced to only gather x or only gather y, but in each quest you have the option of either gathering x, killing y, reviving z, interacting with w, etc - in any combination.

Norn and human storylines were as bland as their respective starter areas, didn't play past lvl 5. Charr are cliche but at least somewhat interesting and with decent VA. Black Citadel looks amazing.
Which origin did you play? I heard that Commoner starts out pretty bland, or was it Raised on the Streets. Noble was fun though, I mean, how is it not fun when your best friend is a flamboyant, extreme womanizer that also sends strong gay vibes if you play a male and uses words like panache and aplomb among others; a non-combat mission of talking to a ton of NPCs that all have things to say depending on the stage of the quest you're on; [circus background] saving the city from Ringleader's Grizzwhirls that he talks about with awesome degrees of innuendo (awesome enough that I might some time use it. I mean, "Look at my giant grizzwhirl, allow it to mesmerise you", how awesome a line is that? Your lady will approve). Oh yeah, and a quest where you get to make a joke out of set lines, most of them being my specialty - bad puns. "There's funny, and there's clown funny, you pass the test."

And yeah, agreed, Black Citadel looks awesome. Didn't explore it much yet, since I want to save something for next BWE/release, but it looks wicked, and they seem to have fixed the lag issues in it, too, so, yay.

Also liked the Loin Arches, though I admit from artwork I expected MOAR SAILS and maybe also MOAR BOATS cause that'd be totally cool. Figured out how to work the Mystic Forge a bit, too, or so I thought, until I suddenly had a L50 staff on my hands as a result of combinations.

ALSO ALSO enjoyed the remade AH/Gem store interface. Addition of fluctuating gem values adds more to the metagame for people that like to play on game economy, which is AWESOME. And the way that the AH permits players to set ORDERS for items they want to buy but aren't currently available AND set the price they wish to pay for it is simply brilliant.

Over there.
Good to hear. I'm finding the older I get, the less I give a fuck about depth of combat features. I mean, yeah, it's cool you've got all sorts of stuff to play with on that front, but it's nice to know there's story content. I guess I'm just in a shitty state of ennui right now. I've gone through about 4 F2P titles this weekend, plus some Max Payne 3 and I find I'm sick and tired of all the pew pew pew. I've known about the story content in GW2 in general, but I haven't seen a whole lot of mention of it through the betas. Seems like it's all been how many different and varied ways mobs can be killed.

carnival background should be mandatory for all human players.
I hope there's more carnival/circus stuff down the line in the full version. It's suggested that Ringleader is connected to something greater, but it's unclear if he's part of the Bigtop International Mafia, or whether it just goes back to Caudecus & Co and carnival is never brought up again.

Anyone manage to get the "regrets" part of Human backstory with other topics like Never Knew My Parents etc? If so, can you tell about those a bit?

Yes, I just call 'em all public events for simplicity's sake.

I like how they are spread out across the map and you can seek them out at your leisure instead of being guided from quest hub to quest hub on a string. But how does the lvl scaling work? At one point I went back and did a low lvl event I had previously missed and found myself with half my normal hp. Does this work the other way as well, meaning you scale up to the higher lvl ones?

Which origin did you play?
Female noble actually. Disliked it for the very reasons you seemed to have enjoyed it for.

No, there's only downscaling. Arena isn't as retarded as Beth, you know. I think it's great, encourages and rewards going through all the areas without skipping parts. Also great if you have low lvl friends or something.

To each their own I guess. You might like Charr lines more, they do feel like more is at stake and things are actually somewhat serious.

Edit: Although Noble/Carnival at one point presupposes that you almost murder a bunch of civilians, guards and almost kill head of the Guard while being mildly mind-controlled, which is quite amusing.

Story-wise, it's the Humans were things are looking pretty drim-dark. They're down to a last stronghold basically with a few splinter groups here and there and close to extinction. The charr are well off, having re-conquered their old lands from the evil humans they're pretty saturated at the moment. They're also in the lead technology-wise.

That was from the first beta weekend.q
From what I saw, this weekend we dominated even more. Was a good idea to put Desolation rotated with 2 low-pop realms full of newbies.
On the first night my server was getting dominated with nobody fighting, so I jumped around different servers until I finally found a good fight - the top three from first beta weekend competing against one another! My new server still wasn't the winning one but man was it some exciting competition.

Once I managed to find some fighting, it was really a bit of fun. Did you try that new 3W dungeon? How was that, if you have?

Aw, pity. I heard a bunch of people raging about some dude trolling by activating traps/monster spawners for his own team, sounds like a great source of grade-A douchebaggery and trolling right there.

I love how they still run with the GW1 idea of being able to have PVP characters (since you get bumped up) and "roleplaying" characters, except your RP character will also be your WvW character.

It also makes PvP far more compelling since noone will have a gear/level advantage to go n00bstomping with.

I heard some rumors that the game is going live at the end of the next month. Does anyone know if you will be able to play with beta client and not download entire game all over again.

Well the state of things I'm seeing, 1,5 months seems plausible, especially due to circumstantial evidence like the Reddit interview that had the dev replying heavily with "These systems will be there at launch" for all the systems that otherwise would take no more than a month to implement. So, I guess one more BWE and then end July/early August release makes sense. Also have to keep in mind that this isn't a real beta, this is a beta demo, they're testing general stuff on that they're uncertain of, I suspect.

By the way, can anyone explain what's up with elementalists? Wasn't it possible for them to switch between 2 weapons and 2 attunements in BWE1? Now it seems that it's only attunements, which kinda sucks dicks for multi-role (switch from long range to close range? lol u mad bro)

Nah, BWE1 was also 1 weapon and 4 attunements. 4 attunements and 2 weapons is a little bit of a versatility advantage.

Meh. Would prefer if the system could lock you to 2 attunements you chose to use in that particular situation BUT also let you switch between 2 weapons.

There's a store around here selling the deluxe edition, beta access and all for $50. Do you guys know if there are any more preorder-only beta events remaining? Also, whether the keys being NA or EU limit you to region-specific servers? They don't specify the origin which is why I'm cautious.
