Patched the client to "Ready to Beta" stage, nice 16 gigs of downloadan. Sittin' and enjoying the music and log-in visuals now. Very nice clean interface, and good music. Glad I'm getting a CE with artwork and soundtrack.

I thought the colour coded password box was a nice touch to spot typos and remind people who usually cycle between 4-5 pwds which of them they just typed in, even if others are looking.

You get to do a proper installation afterwards, right? It just started downloading into my dl folder.

Terrible speed btw., damn kids get off my internet lawn.

I think it just DLed and then you run it and that's it. I missed the final 20% though as I was out doing other things, at any rate, the launcher has "auto-start" option so I'm guessing that no install afterwards.

You can just copy the whole thing elsewhere, of course. It's just 4 files.

I haven't kept up with this game at all and I was wondering about it. I only played Prophecies and quit before any of the expansions came out, but I'm under the impression that character development more or less ceased after you hit level 20. Items weren't any better, they just looked different.

Is it the same case in GW2? Where you'll quickly hit the maximum level and best equipment and go for large stretches of game without really getting "stronger"?

I understand that this is an intentional design decision to be anti-grinding unlike all other MMORPGs, which has its place, but isn't that fun for loot fags. I'm just wondering if it's the same with GW2?

It's up to 80 now, but with a flat leveling scale that is I think still intended to be easier to cap than "typical" MMOs.

As Mangoose said, the cap is at L80.

However, that's not all regarding progression. First, there's stuff in the world that lets you get stat points that you can spend to buy skills - events smaller and larger scale. Some even require exploring and good terrain exploiting skills.

And I think they will have some sort of gear progression though it might be more in line with Vanilla WoW in that something might have more stat points, or stat points rearranged in the way to maximize a certain aspect. Not certain about gear though, they did mention that they want endgame to be relatively even for everyone, and the prestiege would come not from the stats but from the looks, so, yeah.

I vote for "EU - Ring of Fire" it sounds close to Anusblaze or Butthurt.

If we're going US, I'll be hopping on whatever server my kwanzanian acquaintence plays on.

I vote Fissure of Woe because of the vagina euphemism. Actually I don't really care, we just need to be on the same server so we can defend the glory of Codexia on WvWvW. All shall fall before the grey and red machine. :mob:

Is GW2 going for separate servers rather than letting all players switch regions at will like in GW1? Huge fucking :decline:

this was probably inevitable considering the game isn't played entirely in instances anymore and there's a lot more shit moving about in the world. the amount of data that needs to be handled has grown exponentially.

You can easily switch between servers, the only thing that's different is the WvWvW - you can only play for your home server.

OK, that sounds more reasonable. WvW sounds pretty silly and useless, probably won't play it anyway.

I think Sorrow's Furnace would be the most appropriate world for the Codex, but that's just me.

Exponentially? I don't think you know what that word means.

Cities in GW had up to 200 players contained in a small area. Nothing says they couldn't handle that in GW2.

But the cities didn't also have those 200 players fighting a bunch of monsters, roaming NPCs, clickables dropping/ respawning etc. The general impression I got moving around the charr and human starting areas were that the world in general was a lot more lively.
