Fuck, GW2 is becoming an item and crafting whore game? Best part about GW1 was not needing spreadsheets to find the best equipment.

Dunno. The twitchy combat is a major turn-off. I like simply deciding the right moment to used skills and otherwise just a little kiting/moving out of AoEs. And respawning enemies are pure shit.
On the other hand I like more levels/development/customization and some innovation on world dynamics. All in all I expect to like GW2 significantly less, a 6/10 compared to GW1's 8/10 (for an online game). And if gameplay turns out even worse than my expectation I very possibly might turn out not to like GW2 at all... :(

For myself, I have to buy this game. I'm fuckbored with all my old games and no new game has made me want to finish it, much less replay it.

I might have to turn in my gamer card before the end of the year at this rate.

The crafted stuff won't be any better statistically, only purdier. Same with cash shop stuff.

Or that's what they keep telling anyway. I'm thinking it's a clever jew plot.

Well the video certainly didn't indicate anything to the contrary.

We’re counting the days until the first public Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Event, which begins on Friday, April 27, at noon PDT (GMT-8) and ends on Sunday, April 29, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (GMT-8). Hundreds of thousands of players from around the world will get their first taste of Guild Wars 2—and rest assured, we’ll be playing alongside them!

Choices, Choices – You’ll create your own personalized charr, human, or norn character and pick from our eight powerful professions. Your choice of race is vital to your personal story, and it determines in which of the huge starting areas you begin as well. A noble human mesmer will have a radically different game experience than a charr engineer in the service of the Iron Legion. Fortunately, you can roll more than one character and sample each starting area for yourself!

Worlds Collide – If you want your PvP on an epic scale, look no further than World vs. World, where three teams comprising hundreds of players wage open war across four vast maps. You’ll lay siege to castles, raid supply camps, build devastating weaponry, ambush your foes, and leap into truly massive PvP battles—all for the glory of the server. We’re warning you: WvW is so addictive that you may spend the entire Beta Weekend Event there!

PvP For You and Me – After you’ve gotten your feet wet, put your newfound skills to the test in Guild Wars 2 PvP, where small teams battle for points on a variety of challenging, compact maps. We adjust the level of PvP combatants so that all players are on equal footing. If you’ve got a competitive streak or you like playing first-person shooters online, you owe it to yourself to try out Guild Wars 2 PvP!

I Love L.A. – For the first time ever, we’re opening the metropolis of Lion’s Arch to beta players. Wander the streets of this cosmopolitan trade hub, chat with traders and travelers from every corner of Tyria, hop through one of the many asura gates to points beyond, or discover the famed diving platform at Diverse Ledges. Lion’s Arch is a city like no other!

What I don't get is why anyone bothers to follow those in the first place. Screenshots/videos can be edited to hide all the relevant details, and there's absolutely no way of getting caught if you just post info in text form.

Ok, my pre-purchase account is registered, let's do this!

About those lame digits:

"Your display name is a unique account identifier that consists of a name and a randomly generated four-digit code. You'll use it on the Forums, and in Guild Wars 2 after launch. The name and four-digit code will be your handle on the Forums. The four-digit code does not appear in the game itself unless another player chooses the same name, in which case both your name and the four-digit code will appear."

Does the in-game thing happen only if there's someone on the same server with the same name? Do the numbers stick if the other character goes offline?

  • i'm SuicideBunny.5308 in case those lameass numbers become relevant.
  • is it supposed to say
    gw2
    Guild Wars 2 - undefined

Uhh bros, about the streaming. Somewhere, somehow, I've heard that this new beta will have a lot of different files, possibly a new build - anyone know anything about this? I can possibly get the exe myself, but I'd rather not DL 25 gigs only to find out I need to DL 25 gigs.

And yeah, that's pretty much what it says at the account page at the moment.

As far as I know that's only for accounts, similar to blizzards battletag which also has a 4digit number connected to it, and will be used for stuff like adding people's acc as friend yada yada... Character names, on the other hand, will probably be unique accross all servers, just like they were in GW1. If not, why would they offer name reservations through the GW1 hall of monuments.

So the account name is visible in-game somewhere? That's what was puzzling me, but if it's indeed just the account name and not character names that get the digits then it's fine.

I'm guessing it'll only be visible to you in a social menu somewhere, and to the folks who have your acc on their friends list.
