I wish there was an opportunity for me to throw money at a project I wanted made.

I'd spend $500+ on a worthy successor to Morrowind.

I may have some very good news for you. Are you a fan of Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean?

Bring back the inventory management of Morrowind. If not, then make a new one, but, for the love of God, do not bring back the one from Skyrim, or one similar to Skyrim.
Protip: the UI design will be such that a person on a couch can read it on his TV 2 meters away, and navigate it with his gamepad.
As in, it will be shit.
Best outcome would be the choice between both: casual console stuff like Oblivion and hardcore PC gaming stuff to give you something like Morrowind.
There is absolutely no world where Morrowind's inventory UI is convenient. This is just fanboying.

I'd be happy if they'd just allow the quest journal to give enough information to do quests without a quest maker.

Sir, this is a PC master race board. Its very convenient having multiple menus open on the screen with one click, easily sorted by category.
And as you can see in literally any other PC application, it's far better UX to have things organised properly rather than haphazardly scattered all over your screen. I'd rather decide what screen to click into through a tab system than have a million windows pop up in my face all at once. Most people would, which is which that's how programs are actually designed in the 21st century.

Also, again, Morrowind's thumbnail inventory system where you have to mouse over every single item is TERRIBLE UX for a pc. It actually works better on Xbox, crazily, because at least on an Xbox you already have to scroll through everything either way.

You might not like it, but this is what peak inventory UI looks like.

You can instantly see what every item is without having to mouse over it and it's sorted alphabetically (with options to sort by price or weight for shopping/encumbrance-management convenience) so you can quickly scroll down to the exact item you're searching for. Tab system to quickly sort by type of item too.

Yeah lol that's objectively better than "BIG BOX OF THUMBNAILS" like in Morrowind.

Oh boy, I sure can't wait to mouse over EACH AND EVERY ONE of these books/scrolls/whatever to find the one I actually want!

Nothing haphazard about 4 boxes for magic, equipment, map, and class sheet. The equipent screen is sortable. I can click on the corner of the map menu to pin it open for a larger field of view. Worthless spells can be deleted. You're trying too hard.

Except if I want to find a particular scroll, I have to mouse over every single one of them. If I want to sort items by value to quickly see the best way of making some cash, I can't. If I want to sort by weight to see how I can get under my encumbrance limit the quickest, I can't.

And yet this is meant to be better than Oblivion's inventory... because? "Font size too big!!!"?

Scrolls are listed in the magic menu by name. Similar to how it is done in Oblivion, minus the required icon next to every listed object.

Pretend I said books or something then. Just any item where the thumbnails are gonna be either similar or exactly the same. It's a huge pain to mouse over things and it saves you no time because you can just zip past everything to the letter you want in Oblivion too. I mean, this is all about what the better design for PCs is, right? On your desktop computer, do you have names hidden in your folders or not?

Crafted potions are the only instance I find it to be an issue, but iirc Oblivion had the same problem. Probably Skyrim too? Can't say the rest really bothers or impedes me in any way.

Obvious troll is obvious.

It has nothing to do with "21st century" and everything with consoles needing special care. Design-wise the PC version is superior, because it allows you to adjust the UI however you want and gives maximum information possible.

If I want to sort items by value to quickly see the best way of making some cash, I can't. If I want to sort by weight to see how I can get under my encumbrance limit the quickest, I can't.
You make it sound like it wouldn't be possible to simply add that sort of functionality. I mean, you can already see categories such as "all" and "magic", so what's the problem in adding "weight" and "value"? But, hey, let's try to make that into an argument against Morrowind!

And yet this is meant to be better than Oblivion's inventory... because? "Font size too big!!!"?
Because you have to keep scrolling when all you can see is 6 items at most. In Morrowind you can make the window as big as you want and sort it, too.

It's a huge pain to mouse over things
It's not. If a quick mouse over something is "a huge pain" for you, then there is something seriously wrong with your hand. I should know, because I use mouse non-stop every day and I have no issue whatsoever. In fact, it's extremely natural to mouse over things.

Elder Scrolls 6: Todd Howard Admits Upcoming Sequel Could Be His Last

"If I do the math, I'm not getting any younger."

The Elder Scrolls 6 may be the last game in the fantasy series Todd Howard makes, the Bethesda boss has said. Speaking to IGN ahead of Starfield Direct, 52-year-old Howard discussed the length of time it takes for Bethesda Game Studios to make its games.

Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios’ first new intellectual property in over 25 years, and its first major release since Fallout 4 came out eight years ago in 2015.
While Bethesda Game Studios has grown bigger since those days, with four studios (Rockville, Montreal, Austin, and Dallas) set up and contracts with multiple partners in place, this expansion does not necessarily speed up development, Howard insisted.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018 with a teaser video, below. Howard has confirmed it will follow Starfield, although a release window has yet to be announced.

In a 2022 interview with IGN, Howard said Fallout 5 would be Bethesda Game Studios' next game after The Elder Scrolls 6, but he clarified that comment, saying now: “it [Fallout 5] will clearly be after Elder Scrolls 6 at some point… At some point in the future.”

What’s clear is Bethesda Game Studios titles take many years to develop, something Howard has bemoaned in the past. But Howard insists the most important thing is to give these games the time they need, pointing to the long gap between the launch of games like Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto as not negatively impacting their series.

“I think Half-Life 3 will do fine, right?” Howard said. “So even though in the moment, how do I bring that closer to reality today, because I want to play it, those gaps, these are still evergreen franchises that I think when they come, it's about just doing it right.

“I want to be faster, but speed isn't the goal.”

In that context, and with planned long-term support for Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 in mind, Howard has begun to think about how many games he has left in him.

I want to be faster, but speed isn't the goal

“So our ability, like we talked about, to support Starfield... Whereas maybe in the old days, you would put it out and then you'd go on to a sequel, now we can support that game for a much longer period of time, which is what our plan is.

“And then as we look to an Elder Scrolls 6, that is one where... I probably shouldn't say this. But if I do the math, I'm not getting any younger. How long do people play Elder Scrolls for? That may be the last one I do. I don't know.”

Based on Bethesda’s track record for development timescales, The Elder Scrolls 6 may end up skipping the current generation of consoles entirely. It seems certain that whatever Bethesda Game Studios releases after The Elder Scrolls 6, whether it be Fallout 5 or something else, it will launch on Microsoft’s next-generation console. And after that? Assuming The Elder Scrolls 7 is a game Bethesda Game Studios intends to make, we could be looking at it coming out 20 years from now.

For more from Todd Howard, check out the interview in full. We’ve also got a roundup of Starfield Direct, and a Summer of Gaming 2023 schedule if you’re wondering what’s coming up next.

Is he serious? No wonder TES VI is nowhere on the horizon.

He is a legend and his overall contribution towards the success of Bethesda games is almost impossible to quantify, he will be missed
